I run companies in both America and the States (as an inc.). Operating in America is definitely more cost-effective, and honestly, any perceived prestige boost from having a US entity isn't worth the headache. You’re looking at spending at least $2,000 a year on accountants and lawyers just to ensure you don't trip over some regulatory hurdle, since things aren't nearly as clearly defined here as they are back home.
Basically, if you aren't entirely sure what you're doing or why you're doing it, you're better off sticking to America.
My ALP is currently at 49 (ref. 60 - 142). Does anyone have a recommendation for a private physiotherapist or perhaps someone specializing in medical neck massage? I’m hoping to try some manual therapy first to see if it provides relief before I commit to the wait times for a CT or MRI scan.
Here is an update. For about three weeks now, these episodes have been occurring even when I’m just resting. It’s this fleeting sensation of being "displaced" from space—as if I might stumble if I were standing, or lose my footing the moment I step into a dark room. My vision doesn't go dark, and once the sensation passes, my balance seems perfectly fine. It lasts maybe a second, then it's gone. No headaches, either; I’ve been running regularly lately and can handle a thirty-minute jog without any issues. On the other hand, there is this persistent tension and pressure around my neck. If I rotate my head a few times to stretch it out—which results in some audible cracking—I get dizzy. During a recent massage for my neck and shoulders, I actually broke into a cold sweat and turned pale as a sheet, though I felt better afterward. I also occasionally feel pressure around my eyes; it feels connected.
Anyway, I’m at a loss as to where to begin with diagnostics or treatment. My primary care physician is somewhat dismissive, essentially telling me nothing is wrong. My blood work came back mostly clear, though my cholesterol is slightly high and my ALP levels are low. Should I push for more intensive medical testing, or should I see a physical therapist first?
I’m in terrible shape; I haven't done anything active in quite some time. Yesterday I played a game of soccer, and recently I went hiking—both times, during moments of intense exertion like sprinting, dribbling, or a quick scramble up a slope, I lost coordination in my legs and felt a momentary lapse in consciousness. I had to stop immediately to catch my breath and steady myself, as I felt I might have actually collapsed if I hadn't. Once I slowed down, things settled. I’ve also started running again lately, but this hasn't happened then, likely because I maintain a steady pace rather than these sudden bursts of intensity.
Should I be genuinely concerned, or is this just what happens when you spend an entire year sitting at a desk all day?
ruggedcyclist74 said:Your wife can certainly start her own company; she doesn't need to be registered as an employee of her own LLC since her primary employer is already covering her social security and tax withholdings, so she's free to work. As for getting paid, if the work is just occasional, she could potentially pay herself through contract work, though most people simply distribute the profits the business makes during the year. You can also issue yourself quarterly profit distributions throughout the year...
If she does lose her job at the salon, she won't be eligible for unemployment benefits, and she'd essentially have to register herself as an employee within her own company to handle things.
It simply cannot be done off the books. That’s just straight-up illegal labor. You either need to hire them properly or set up some sort of formal contract.
Yes, it’s settled. I have no idea why I thought buying British Pounds was a bright idea—it’s a first for me. I ended up taking a bit of a hit on the conversion rate, which was annoying, but I won't go broke over $10. 😁
I am looking to book a flight through Southwest Airlines, and they list Visa Electron as an accepted payment method. I have a Visa Electron card from Bank of America linked to my foreign currency account. The ticket costs 56 pounds, and I just converted enough to have 65 pounds sitting in the account right before attempting the purchase, yet the transaction failed.
Now, I am struggling to pinpoint the cause: 1. Is there a delay before the balance update reflects in the system, causing the payment gateway to see insufficient funds? 2. Could there be additional hidden fees that pushed the total beyond what I have available? 3. My foreign currency account is officially a USD account, but since I have handled Euros before, my online banking shows three sub-accounts under the same number—one for USD, one for EUR, and one for GBP. However, the "Visa Electron" label only appears next to the USD portion, while the others say "no card attached." I cannot recall if I have ever successfully made an online purchase that pulled directly from my Euro holdings, or if the system requires the funds to be in USD regardless of the transaction currency because the card is tied to the USD account.
The third point feels like the most logical culprit. That said, should I wait a bit to see if the balance settles, or is that likely irrelevant?
The video feels a bit self-important because we’re missing all the context surrounding the clip itself. From what I can gather, the individual wasn't actually refusing to show ID to the officer.
That being said, the police officers certainly overstepped their bounds here.
Back in the 1800s, there was no Social Security, no pension plans, and certainly no healthcare coverage. Farmers didn't receive government subsidies, veterans didn't have benefits, and we didn't have the massive public administration or the mountain of regulations and entitlements we see today. And, of course, someone always has to foot the bill for all of it.
You could just go out and find them. Personally, I consider JFK one of the better films, and I found Forrest Gump quite good as well. Or do you all only have an appetite for movies filled with nothing but action sequences? 🙂
