Back when we actually had export surpluses.
When interest rates could jump to 15% without anyone blinking, thanks to those two factors alone.
Back when Chinese buyers and the rest of the world weren't allowed—or able—to hoard gold.
When the economic landscape was much healthier.
When Western central banks held way more gold than they do now.
Back when all the gold mined during the year actually hit the open market (unlike today, where major producers like Russia and China won't let a single gram leave their state vaults).
I suppose you think all of that is just a reason for gold to crash to $600.
Maybe so, if the dollar undergoes a massive devaluation similar to what happened with the lira in old Italy. 😂
