I was watching some clips earlier and it got me thinking about how much our movies and shows seem to be obsessed with the idea of "making it" in the office. It feels like every second story is either a dark comedy about how soul-crushing a 9-to-5 is, or some wild satire about a random person suddenly getting promoted to a corner office they didn't earn.

Personally, I find the whole concept of the "corporate climb" a bit exhausting. I remember my first real office job; I spent more time navigating office politics and trying to figure out who held the real power than actually doing the work I was hired for. It felt like a game where the rules changed every week.

Lately, it feels like creators are leaning harder into this trope of the "clueless worker gets lucky" or the "ruthless climb to the top." I wonder if it's because it's such a relatable frustration, or if we're just stuck in this loop of mocking the very systems we're all forced to participate in.

Do you think we're reaching a saturation point with workplace satires, or is there still something fresh to say about the grind?

If anyone actually cares to verify my claim, just grab a calendar and do the math on their days off—both the single days and the long stretches. You've got 30 days of vacation, plus winter break, plus spring break, and let's not even get started on summer vacation, where nobody actually shows up based on some official HR decree; they just drift back in for the first semester session.

Now, if you want to argue that kids these days have absolutely zero discipline, fine, I'm with you there. And if you think every generation is sliding further down the gutter, yeah, I agree with that too. There’s just no respect left in the world—not from the parents and certainly not from the kids—it’s all gone downhill.
That being said, we shouldn't be underestimating anyone's profession or title.
A bus driver carries the responsibility for their passengers just as much as a Teacher carries the weight for their students.
At the end of the day, nobody forced anyone into these careers; the choice was entirely up to the individual.
And look, if there are massive flaws in the system—well, they're flawed, plain and simple.

You'll be lucky if you even manage to enroll...☕

Nah.

Honestly, it usually ends up being McDonald's anyway...
especially when those kids come from small towns where there isn't one in sight...
they live for that junk food...every single time I've tried to introduce a healthier alternative, I've ended up with full plates and hungry kids...
and look, when you're picking between two evils, you pick the lesser one—I'd much rather deal with that than have them scavenging for processed deli meat halfway through a bus ride or an excursion...☕

I work in the school system...
A McDonald's order like that should have been cleared with the parents first...
There’s a chance the kid just cornered the teacher to ask for a favor...
She could've just talked to the restaurant directly; they're usually pretty cool about working out a free meal deal if you ask right...
You should definitely sit down and have a real talk with the teacher...
Look, we're all human and we all mess up sometimes...
I'm sure she wasn't trying to do anything shady...
It honestly drives me nuts when everyone keeps asking if I'm scared of giving birth...😲
and once I say no...everyone just starts😱but what am I supposed to say? It’s happening whether I’m ready or not, and honestly, I have no idea what to expect. I find myself bracing for the absolute worst, and instead of sleeping, I’m just sitting here spiraling and panicking... then people see it on my face and immediately start giving me those condescending little lectures.🧐
Look, it's not like I don't care... I'm praying everything goes smoothly for both me and Charles...

I'm done messing around with ointments and creams; honestly, I don't care anymore, it'll heal on its own. My only real concern is the sheer amount of junk that’s already been flushed down the drain and how much of it has actually reached him.

Look, you’re applying such a tiny amount of cream over such a small area that there's zero chance it could actually cause any damage, especially given how little time has passed. Honestly, stop stressing about it.
vividhawk87 said:I won't even get started on Ford... I showed up early this morning to get my blood sugar checked (even though you're supposed to make an appointment), but I decided to bluff my way in. My sister-in-law tried the same thing about a month ago and actually pulled it off. So, there I am, the waiting room is half empty, I’ve got all my paperwork ready to go, and then the nurse tells me they can't see me because it's too busy and tells me to book an appointment for next week... honestly, what a joke. It's infuriating!

Meanwhile, over at the transfusion center, people who had referrals for both transfusion and microbiology were getting two tubes drawn right there, heading straight to micro, and just leaving the tubes behind. They were finished with everything in twenty minutes flat. And we all know how backed up the microbiology department gets with 100 or 150 people waiting... yet this transfusion unit could barely handle the thirty of us sitting here.

I think I'm just going to go to a private clinic like Mayo Clinic for my OGTT, $20, they don't require appointments and the atmosphere is actually decent...
vividhawk87 said:I was absolutely livid this past Wednesday at the blood center after waiting in line for two and a half hours... and get this: they have a sign saying PREGNANT WOMEN ARE ONLY SEEN ON WEDNESDAYS (but apparently, they see everyone else on Wednesdays too, so we pregnant women end up stuck waiting forever while everyone else just cuts right in front of us) if they had just written PREGNANT WOMEN ARE SEEN ONLY ON WEDNESDAYS, it would have made life so much easier for both them and us, since we can't just show up any other day, whereas everyone else can.... plus, sitting there for two and a half hours just for a single vial of blood (it was a sensitization test because I'm Rh-negative)

It's the same old story...
I remember asking over at Ford if they could just run that test for me right then and there, but nope, I ended up waiting almost three hours too... everyone gets to go before the pregnant women)🙄
fadedscout2 said:Oh, I totally get that they had it rough... but honestly, shouldn't they be happy that things have changed so much and that we can actually give our kids way more than what we grew up with? (And I'm talking purely about the material stuff, obviously, because a mother's love is a mother's love 😍 or parental love, so I hope no dads take offense 😁)...
I heard that exact sentiment a thousand times growing up, but it really hit me differently this time... 🤷 It felt almost like she was subtly blaming me for something, though I honestly have no clue what I did wrong... 🙄

hormones😉
It’s my hormones driving me crazy while I'm trying to clean... I need help because I'm supposed to be resting, but she's such a perfectionist by nature while I'm just messy, so you can imagine how much my blood pressure spikes when she starts scrubbing everything while I'm already exhausted after ten minutes😂
fadedscout2 said:Ugh, my mom totally drove me up the wall today 🙂
She started going on this whole epic saga about how back when she had me (back in '84!), you couldn't even find basic diapers or baby clothes if you looked hard enough, and people were literally standing in massive lines just to grab a gallon of milk or a bag of flour... blah, blah, blah... 🙂Like, we don't live in the Great Depression anymore, thank God, and I honestly have no clue what point she was even trying to make by bringing all that up right now 🤷but honestly, my hormones are just absolutely wrecking me today, so I had to bite my tongue like crazy just to keep from snapping at her 😠
🙄

My own mother told me similar stories when I was born in '81, mostly while looking at all the gear and clothes I'd bought, but it didn't frustrate me. If anything, it made me respect her more because I finally get an idea of just how much she actually went through.
I’m technically on bed rest, though I don't take it too seriously, so I still make it out for my daily coffee date with the girls at the local Starbucks... then yesterday, this acquaintance walks up to me and goes, "I heard you're on restricted activity because of a spontaneous miscarriage risk, so you really need to take it easy..." I just looked her dead in the eye and said, "Actually, there's no threat here—especially not a spontaneous one; if anything, we're looking at a premature delivery given how many weeks I've got left"—since, you know, I actually listen to my doctors instead of gossip.🙄
I realized I’m hitting a serious memory crisis when I couldn't even remember my PIN for my Chase debit card.😂
It’s honestly infuriating because my doctor is so swamped with patients that she doesn't have a single second to sit down and explain what my test results actually mean or what precautions I need to take while I'm on medical leave.😠So, instead, I'm stuck bothering my cousin's dad, who happens to be a doctor—thank God I can at least count on him for that.
I remember back when I was four months pregnant, someone actually had the nerve to ask me, "So, did it come back to life?"😱😱😱
