My father committed suicide. How do I cope? in Psychology ·
..most of what you're feeling will pass... even a nasty stomach flu won't hang around longer than five days...
I need help helping someone in Psychology ·
..I guess he just doesn't love her anymore... but he knows deep down she’s a perfectly fine girl—which only makes him feel worse about his lack of feelings and the fact that she's still head over heels for him... and then that whole ridiculous, exhausting cycle starts all over again...
Thoughts vs. Words in Psychology ·
..don't go underestimating people... if you can actually manage to get straight to the point—without all that unnecessary fluff and overthinking—you might actually be heard... at least by anyone with a shred of common sense... as for everyone else? well, their opinion doesn't really matter anyway...
Falling for an ex with an addiction problem in Psychology ·
..a drowning man will grab at a straw...and honestly, it’s the exact same thing when people fall in love... I was watching this documentary the other day about addicts and former addicts—just one of those things that sticks with you... there was this guy, clean for fifteen years now, has the whole setup—wife, kids, a steady career... he even spends his free time volunteering at recovery centers, using his own history to help others get through it... he said that even today, he’s still fighting it, and he knows he never truly stops... for someone caught up in a crush on an addict, or anyone else in that kind of mess, a story like his should be enough to spark some hope... the chances of a happy ending aren't just zero, they're actually more than minimal... I'm not here to give advice... I don't have any... I'm just making an observation that most people lack the backbone to handle even minor setbacks, let alone something as massive and soul-crushing as overcoming addiction... anyway, I just hope she gets through this with as little damage to her heart and her life as possible...
Paralyzed by indecision in Psychology ·
..what my grandmother would have said... you've got some nerve... you're practically begging for a fight...
...there are these personality assessments designed to gauge how much someone leans toward certain disorders—basically measuring which direction they tilt... obviously, that doesn't mean those traits ever actually manifest in reality... but look at it this way: given the right set of circumstances, one person might exhibit schizophrenic tendencies, another phobias, someone else depressive or paranoid traits, manic episodes... or maybe a messy cocktail of all of them... I’m certainly no expert here, but I’ve taken these tests myself—I was essentially a guinea pig in some studies once... what they really do is pinpoint the potential trajectory a person might take if they were to finally snap or lose their mind... haha... that’s a bit blunt, perhaps, a crude way of putting it... but even Klain pointed out that there is a specific percentage of people who possess a predisposition toward psychopathy... and yet, 99 percent of them just stay in that state of "inclination"... if that weren't the case, the world would be an absolute madhouse... though, honestly, we aren't all that far off from that right now...
