Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
fadedtrucker12 said:I finally found a hemorrhoid treatment that actually works. BINGO.

WELL DONE!! Warm or cold water—whatever. It’s common knowledge that a cold water spray can constrict capillaries and help stop bleeding, but—let's be real—that isn't going to make the hemorrhoids just vanish. only temporary fix.

Creams don't "feed" them or anything, they just work differently, but let's not get bogged down in details. The main thing is—hey, if you want to live your life with a frozen bag of peas tucked in your fridge, go for it!! That doesn't mean the treatment doesn't offer some instant relief, but... you know, we have lives to lead. And honestly, some people need to hear it a hundred times: they aren't just going to shrink back down on their own once they flare up...

Henry Edwards33 said:Yeah, I’m taking it easy. Honestly, I can't seem to talk myself into actually getting down to business, even though we all know the work is out there waiting. It’s just this stubborn laziness washing over me 😬

I’ve got this nagging fear that things are going to get pretty ugly once I finally "wake up" and realize I'm already running behind schedule 😬

You’re definitely someone worth listening to 🙂

As for me... I'm stuck doing inventory. It's my first time separating non-current items that need to be written off with the IRS. Between sorting, cleaning, and organizing, I'm losing my mind wondering why I'm not just sitting back and enjoying retirement... That’s the curse, isn't it? They teach you how to move mountains, but once you stop, you just can't seem to catch that momentum again. Everyone else seems so happy...

Oh, one more thing. Why am I bothering with write-offs and messing with the tax guys? Well, times are Heben, and honestly, fear has set in—better to tuck away a few thousand dollars while I can. Plus, it's been ten years of building this up, so here we are! Is the government going to come after me??

Now it turns out there really is someone bigger... oh boy....

Oh, really? Yours is bigger?
Fine, I'll take your word for it. No need to show proof.

Well, what's up? Hopefully you're feeling more like yourself now?? I really hope you're actually using this long weekend to relax—and not just catching up on work?

I had someone reach out with a question I felt obligated to answer: what on earth are these motherboards with built-in hard drives? We’re talking about industrial-grade computers where the storage is actually soldered right onto the motherboard—just a series of memory chips that essentially "pretend" to be a standard hard drive (your C: drive, obviously!). And since there's nothing spinning inside, you don't have to worry about moving parts at all.

Typically, these machines aren't exactly high-performance powerhouses, but if you're just running basic control systems, even an ancient relic would probably get the job done! That said, their durability is honestly incredible—I personally have some units that have been humming along for over 15 years without a single hiccup.

A little tip: while they aren't exactly budget-friendly, they are absolutely perfect for accounting work (though you'll want something a step up from the absolute bottom-of-the-line models...). You really don't have to stress about data loss—these things are practically indestructible, unless you're planning on getting struck by lightning!

I checked with a colleague, and she mentioned they process everything through the POS system. Sorry I can't be more helpful here, but I just don't use that module at all.

No worries at all—I just assumed you were in the thick of it, so I figured you'd know. I'll go ahead and ask them how they're planning to set that up. Honestly, even after 16 years in this business, I’ve never really dealt with write-offs—aside from the usual inventory adjustments and breakage—but... why wouldn't we take advantage of a break like this? That recent change in tax law allowing us to price items below cost when clearing out stock is actually pretty handy; it means you don't have to obsess over your net contribution margins quite as much.

Jessica Grant56 and Terry Johnson3, please take it to the DMs if you two have more to say to one another.
I’m not going to sit here and moderate endless nitpicking. Whether there's actual substance to the argument or it's just noise, I'll be scrubbing anything from anyone looking to start a fight.

I am totally with you on that—I've actually started just ignoring insults altogether... And thanks, really, you brought me back to my senses. I felt myself slipping a bit there, but you pulled me back up to where I need to be.

So, the question is back to Syn again, and... if you happen to know, please let me know—whether here on the forum or via DM—how do I handle writing off stock that's being discontinued? (Meaning, the NC isn't the issue here). It's not quite the same as damaged goods, shrinkage, or broken items—which I'll obviously process normally within the allowed limits.

So, we actually managed to cover the topic—we shared our thoughts and kept things civil, too. But who exactly is he talking to? Someone who apparently "doesn't know how to communicate politely"—though I guess that’s just his own personal definition. It seems like it's always the most insignificant people who yell the loudest, and honestly, he’s clearly not much of a conversationalist. He wouldn't normally allow himself this much "freedom" when dealing with people who actually have an academic background:

"just delete everything that extremely stupid program from those extremely stupid big corporations flags

in some tiny mom-and-pop shop of a company (where the owner probably keeps the server right next to the propane tanks in a tin shack...

because the guy keeps all his cash stuffed in his stinky socks

and looking at your posts, I can tell you definitely have even more than him

plus, Synesis is usually garbage, just a plain old virus

once again, you aren't even reading what you're replying to (which is pretty much the bare minimum for any decent conversation).

to some kid from the neighborhood messing around with Access

you're showing your true narcissistic face

you aren't being constructive at all; it's obvious your comments are just malicious and..."

I think enough is enough for anyone with half a brain...

Henry Edwards33 said:Thanks, Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you all had a good one.

It’s honestly pretty draining to read everything you've written here because scaring people off was never my intention.

You're attacking the moderation, but at the end of the day, it’s just a handful of basic ground rules. Don't get personal and don't spam links. I didn't realize those were such heavy asks.
Think about how many times someone on a tech forum might say a specific software like Microsoft Office isn't up to par—you've made similar comments about TechCrunch more than a few times yourself. It doesn't bother me, and it shouldn't offend anyone using the platform. As for the developers of the software being discussed, if they have an issue with the critique, they are more than welcome to register and join the conversation themselves. Again, as long as they aren't calling users illiterate, morons, or idiots... (and that's being generous, because I've seen much nastier stuff on accounting software boards).
Then you turn around and blame me for "allowing" rude behavior. That's an interesting take. What was I supposed to do? Hand out bans left and right? Maybe I should have, but I still believe that grown adults can carry on a civilized conversation. It would be eye-opening to pull up all the moderator warnings—and I wasn't the only one issuing them—just to see who actually triggered them and how the conversation spiraled. It's rarely just one person's fault while everyone else acts like saints. 😉

As far as I'm concerned, I've said my piece on this. I'm always open to constructive feedback and actual suggestions. I'm doing the best I can, but I truly believe we can work together to make this sub-forum a place where everyone actually enjoys hanging out.

Once again, wishing everyone a successful and Happy 2012.

Why should you be upset? We don't agree on everything, but—hey—we’re still being civil and actually talking to one another. At the end of the day, this isn't how anyone makes a living, nor is it the most important thing in the world. Not to me, anyway... And just to set the record straight: I never once said that TechCrunch was garbage, nor did I call Bill Gates an idiot or anything of the sort—though, honestly, I certainly had my reasons. That guy tends to hold a grudge whenever someone gets bitten, and looking back, he really went after anyone who dared to criticize his favorite little toy. I think our willingness to tolerate that kind of behavior is exactly what's driven people away—I can't list everyone, obviously—so that's really just my way of pointing it out. Plus, on average... It feels like about 75% of their posts are just one long advertisement for the exact same thing. And you’re just letting that happen.

You’re asking what I’d do? It’s obvious—wipe it clean. You have to show that this kind of verbal abuse isn't tolerated, especially the way Bill Gates carries himself. He targets people personally, but... well, you already know all that, and you handled him perfectly in your response. And honestly, he just doesn't seem capable of having a civil conversation. If I were to sit here and list every single insult he threw at you, you'd wonder what kind of moderator would ever allow that kind of behavior... it really makes you question if there's some sort of connection there. But let's move past that. You’ve given me a "timeout" more than once before because my replies got a little too heated—I took it in stride and learned my lesson, though! You can see I don't get rattled by the petty nonsense people throw my way. When you're right, you're right. But when you aren't, you end up in these debates—not out of malice, but just to see if there's a better way to communicate. As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't mind keeping in touch with our old group via email, but... why did we all drift away in the first place? That’s a question you really have to ponder.

Well, damn, Terry Johnson3, what was the point of that?

I guess I was being naive and a bit foolish if I actually thought grown adults were capable of having a decent conversation. It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that you basically have to drop down to a five-year-old's level just to be heard.

Quick favor—and yes, I’m asking about Sophia again... How do I handle inventory write-offs? You know, when we pull an item from the lineup entirely and just toss it—meaning we have to notify the IRS and all that—but there isn't a specific spot for it in Sophia. I can't put it under "shrinkage" or "damage," because those categories are strictly for actual breakage or theft...

I'm throwing this out here in the chat rather than the main forum—feel free to just DM me if you prefer!

Henry, happy new beginnings to you—but look, if you step back and really observe how everyone is talking, with all this rudeness and lack of manners, you have to wonder who the crazy one actually is. Though, we all know who is responsible for letting this kind of behavior slide.

In my opinion, they shouldn't have allowed that comment: "I'm telling you, Sophia is garbage..." because that is a direct insult to thousands of users. But you just left it standing there? Not to mention how that sounds to the developers, who actually care about the software, refine it, and ultimately make their living from it. Just like how the "business plan" seems to have vanished—along with many others like Paul, Vlad, Deborah, and so on—and even I haven't been seen here for months... it's pretty obvious the editorial policy is broken. It feels like tolerating one person has driven everyone else away.

So, what now? Everything goes back to the way it was? I don't envy you—you spend all this time on it, only for someone to come along and tell you that you're doing it wrong. But hey, I guess that's just the price of moderating. I've been in those shoes before.

Raymond Martinez10 said:There's some kind of secret connection here😉

You aren't Lili—not by a long shot!!! Honestly, Vlad is someone you can actually trust; he’s always willing to offer advice or lend a hand, and he’s never been this tedious or pushy like your "secret connection." And this "secret" disaster keeps hurling insults too?!? So, looking at everything that particular connection has written and how they've been acting—the conclusion is pretty obvious: there's definitely a hidden link here! But then again—in a country as corrupt as this, you can't even get a job at a local Starbucks without knowing someone, right??

But hey—look at us. Most of us who have already checked out of this whole topic just drift back in occasionally, waiting for you to move on to something else so someone can finally deal with this chatterbox and tell them to watch their mouth. I guess those who wait eventually get what they want.

I’ll pop back in whenever I feel like it—maybe in three or four months—but I don't bother responding to insults. My family always tells me: just let it go... honestly, they're such a mess!

I mean, this is 100% spot on. All those "miracle" claims about herbs or creams making everything vanish? It's total nonsense. We really need to call that out more often—just so people don't waste their hard-earned money only to end up disappointed and hurt. And let's skip the sugarcoating. Even the hyped-up stuff is questionable; personally, Pilex doesn't seem much better than bronch to me...
Virtual Coffee Break - Chat in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Henry Edwards33, look, I'm all for being direct and skipping the sugar-coating—it doesn't really matter where it happens, as long as we actually communicate, you know? And obviously, let's keep it civil. Personally, I welcome any kind of feedback, even if it's negative (or positive), because if people are actually thinking, it can lead to better work. It makes for a better Forum. Unfortunately, some of our best, most helpful people—the ones who were always willing to lend a hand—just don't show up anymore. Even though they were great, certain personalities have basically chased them away. (You know who I mean, and I won't list names here since we’re still on good terms.) Self-promotion is probably the number one issue here. Even when the people acting like geniuses are the ones actually writing the software—they should at least set some boundaries. Especially when they go around calling other products "garbage." Those are the very tools used by 75% of the people who visit this Forum, the service providers, and if I recall correctly, maybe you do too? Why should we let some mediocre person insult us? They might have a degree or whatever, but that doesn't make us any less valid. If I've been successfully using QuickBooks programs for 16 years, isn't that proof enough that they actually work? I looked for something better, tried Techno and (subjectively speaking) didn't care for it... That's just my take. It's fine to discuss what *isn't* working, but not in a way that implies everything except their own house is trash. It feels way too arrogant... Bash is curious to see how this plays out—will Paul just keep jumping out of every conversation like a broken record, shouting his usual slogan: "mine is the best everrr" (seriously, just look through his posts to find it!!). Also, just a heads-up: I'm not going to engage with insults. I've grown past that. But with you, I feel like I can actually exchange ideas! We can even chat off-topic about how to fix bugs...

If you remember how many people Paul has insulted (Vladimir, the Ice Man, etc.) and the kind of language he uses, I have to ask: why do you allow it?? Is there some secret connection there? I won't bother quoting those gems that perfectly illustrate his character—that primitive way of acting, the swearing, the insults—but you can certainly go back and look at those old threads to find your answer... If you want to respond, go ahead. But since we've opened this door—let's actually try to figure out where the problem lies.

Henry Edwards33 said:Jessica Grant56, out of respect for you and the handful of others who actually contribute here, I want to lay things out clearly. Moving forward, please take these kinds of debates and side stories over to the chat thread. This specific topic is far too valuable to be wasted on petty arguments.
Every single time this thread gets bumped by a question or a comment, a small group of you jumps in, and it always devolves into toxic back-and-forth about who’s the bigger expert. It’s completely unnecessary for people to lecture you on your skills or tell Business what they should be doing when neither of you actually knows the software inside and out.
I won't stand for it. Those of us who actually work with—or develop—this software need to be able to read through these posts carefully. We need to protect this high-quality information instead of letting it drown in a sea of insults and ego trips.
You have no idea how many posts I’ve had to delete, or how many people reach out to me via DM. If you want to argue, go to the chat thread. This space is strictly for software-related discussion. No exceptions. If you don't like that, you know where to take your complaints.
I’ll leave this post up for today, but it will be deleted shortly. Any further discussion regarding this should happen in the chat—our virtual coffee thread.

Look, Henry, feel free to just delete your reply tomorrow—honestly, I’m not interested in getting into a tug-of-war with anyone. I’ve been kicked off this thread twice before, so I can handle it again; after all, the internet is huge and there are plenty of other moderators out there who are more chill and easygoing. What really worries me is that "every single time" part—it starts up, then it dies again—why is that? Is the topic sterile or boring? We both know it isn't. So, if it's not that, is it just poorly moderated? I'm not here to judge, and I'm definitely not going to go running to someone to complain... If the owners are happy, then fine. Though, I totally agree that people jump too quickly to saying "you have no clue" or "this is pointless," but I guess that depends entirely on WHO is saying it.

Paul has always been a bit of a provocateur, but why shouldn't we have a little debate? It keeps things lively, doesn't it? At the end of the day, we aren't arguing over who's the most patriotic or who loves hunting more; we're just talking about which software we think is better (or more cost-effective) than the next. Sure, Paul has always been quick to insult others, so the pattern continues, but... I don't have to take him seriously, especially since I'm fully aware of my own limits—what I know, what I don't, and what my actual degree is in. When he insults someone, it reflects his level, not mine, and honestly, I've dealt with much worse. Where did everyone go who used to join in on those debates? Did you scare them off? Or did they just run away? That doesn't seem right at all. I won't list names—we both know who they are. Those discussions were actually pretty interesting and you could learn a thing or two. But—I guess that's all in the past now? Fine, then lock the thread and goodnight!

Go ahead, delete, ban, do whatever you want, but against whom?? If the three of us shut up, you might as well just write your own blog... And even that isn't allowed?? I don't have a magic fix, other than noticing that on other threads—non-Accountant ones, anyway—they seem to have a much higher threshold for tolerance.

P.S. I haven't posted since March 15, 2011. How "alive" or "dead" has this topic actually been between then and now?? Then the Business software showed up and brought a little life back to the party...
Virtual Coffee Break - Chat in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Gee!! Seriously—amen to that. If this is how things work, then it’s no wonder nobody feels like chiming in on anything... we've got what, three active users and that's it?? And let me guess, that means there isn't much work to do??

I really think things should loosen up a bit, unless someone actually asks a question that stays strictly on topic... But honestly, I've been doing things this way since I was living at my parents' place.
Virtual Coffee Break - Chat in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Terry Johnson3 said:Exactly. We need to share this kind of stuff and help people out when manufacturers fail to do it properly.
To address the comment from dubin: I'm not attacking Sinesis or the people who bought their software. I buy junk sometimes too—usually because of bad info or price—but at least I don't brag about buying a "premium brand" and tell everyone else they have to buy it. Sinesis has a massive user base, which is its one real advantage (why they reached that size is a question we've already covered, but let's move on). That makes it easier to swap info, though most people are too lazy or too jealous to share what they find. Personally, I think the developer should be paying people (if they aren't already) or at least thanking those who help his users navigate his own software since he won't do it himself.
Just because Best Buy is bad for you doesn't mean it's bad for everyone, and just because it works for me doesn't mean it works for everyone. Your constant bashing doesn't help anyone make a choice. So don't get mad when I snap back and criticize your "perfect" software.
As for that nonsense about motherboards, I won't even dignify it with a response. I haven't heard such stupidity in ages. Software houses might collaborate or buy licenses from each other, but they definitely aren't teaming up to build small programs together. There are plenty of license deals and partnerships in the high-end market, so maybe educate yourself before you start rambling about how "perfect everything is in the West." You sound like some local hack acting like you're smarter than everyone else.

Moved from the Accounting Software thread.
lili p.

Look, I’m sorry, but you are being incredibly annoying with all this "know-it-all" energy!!! Don't try to lecture us when you clearly don't have a clue about the subject—and honestly, stay out of things that don't involve you; let the people actually interested handle it. Just so you know how wrong you are: the motherboard uses large memory—like an HDD, if you've ever even heard of one?—to store data for that day, so it’s absolutely vital for working with the SWOT.

But seriously—once again, PLEASE stick to the technical stuff and stop trying to be the expert on everything. We can manage without your input. For me, the discussion is over, just like Liti asked—STOP.

THAT IS COMPLETELY WRONG!!!! I don't get why some people act like there isn't any other way to handle this?? Honestly, at least 50% of sufferers NEVER end up needing surgery! It never even crossed my mind—I've been dealing with this (successfully) for 30 years now. A little low-fat diet, some Excedrin, maybe a bit of vein gel... and year after year, things actually get better. Sure, I'll admit there isn't a permanent "fix," but so what? You can live a perfectly normal life if you just pay a little attention to it. I mean, sure, someone might have actually died from a Hemorrhoid if they bled too much, but I've certainly never heard of anyone actually kicking the bucket from it!
