I'm too polite (old-school manners) in Psychology ·
I get him, more or less. This whole watermelon smashing thing is just ridiculous 🤣
Sometimes I eat a slice of pizza with a fork and knife if I'm at home—otherwise, I just end up making a mess with crumbs everywhere. Pure practicality, really. 😬
But seriously.
It drives me absolutely insane when people yell into their phones in movie theaters, bookstores, or basically any public space. People who scream in the street, or those hysterical laughers and whisperers. People who play games everywhere, or park right in the middle of a crosswalk while others are waiting for the light to change. Or folks who insist on walking down bike lanes without ever stepping aside for cyclists, or standing on the left side of the escalator and refusing to move over for anyone in a hurry—which is basic etiquette in most places. Then there are the people shamelessly eating junk food on the subway inches from my face, dropping crumbs on me and shoving food toward my nose. People who won't take off their backpacks on public transit, or those who cough all over everyone else without even covering their mouths. Smokers who can't afford a pack of gum and end up smelling like a wet ashtray from five feet away. People who just act like jerks everywhere they go and think they're the center of the universe, etc., etc...
Unfortunately, I think you find this stuff everywhere, so it might not be worth getting worked up about. Just relax and grab a slice. ☕
Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Muse, Coldplay... it’s actually happening—too good to be true☕

And I honestly thought the issue was with the printer 🙈

I left that out of the survey on purpose—the fact that so many people hang out online specifically because of this is just reality. I wanted to see other motivations.🙂

Arthur Kim74 said:Exactly, that’s really the best part about being on Reddit, there’s just a thread for absolutely everything you can imagine, so even if I have the most random, silly thought pop into my head, I know I'll find at least five other people ready to dive deep into a discussion about it 😁
I remember realizing a while back that no matter what I was searching for online, I'd almost always end up landing right here on Reddit, and I spent so much time just lurking and reading everything before I finally decided to sign up and join the conversation

That's spot on! 😁That's how it started for me too—I began looking up stuff about pets and now, well, here I am.🤣

Just get out more. There are definitely things you can do without being stuck behind a screen. How did you end up in this situation?😲

Hannah White2 said:Honestly, Reddit gives me this massive flood of info that you just can't physically track down in the real world—it’s like having a direct line to data points that don't exist in your daily life. Plus, out in the wild, I have to waste so much mental energy decoding body language and nonverbal cues from people, which is exhausting. On here? I spend way less energy processing everything and end up getting way more bang for my buck.

That’s an excellent point. That’s actually why I joined Reddit in the first place. I originally came looking for some specific info, then realized this place has pretty much everything—literally anything I can think of.😉

Alright, fair enough. You make a good point. 😬
I was mostly aiming my comments at those people who live entirely within their virtual worlds.

It always feels a bit strange to me when someone tells me they jump on the internet, scroll through Facebook for five minutes, and then claim they don't know what they're doing online... 🤷

I don't really pick up a newspaper, I barely even turn on the TV, so staying connected via the web is how I stay in the loop with everything happening in the world. Aside from this Reddit community, I usually just check one other site that's specifically related to my job, and then there's all the time I spend messaging friends. I use it to look up absolutely anything that crosses my mind—new movies, music, books, upcoming events—I download whatever I need, and I dive into learning about things I'm curious about...
Is that enough of an explanation? 😁
And honestly, how could I not love being online with all that available... 😍

It isn't😬
I do all that too, but I'm at work. How do you fit going out and seeing people into all of that? It seems to me like this takes up a lot of time.

I just really enjoy being online 😍

And honestly, I don't get why people always try to draw these parallels suggesting that anyone who spends a lot of time on the internet is antisocial, or doesn't have a real life, or is somehow alienated, blah blah blah...

Fair enough, then—why do you like being online so much?
This thread didn't really take off, though I thought it had potential to be interesting.🤷
I’m running into the exact same issue. If anyone has a concrete fix for this—I’d really appreciate hearing it. 🤷

My job leaves me with quite a bit of downtime, and I’m usually sitting at my desk most of the day. You can't just spend every second reading, either. ☕ This feels like a decent way to kill the boredom—purely by circumstance, really. When I actually have free time, I make it a point to stay away from the computer entirely. But the reality is that more and more people are spending their lives online by choice, not because they have to. I could be out in the real world—being active, hiking, traveling, being creative, or just living life—but instead, they choose digital existence over everything else. People are becoming increasingly isolated and withdrawn. I honestly don't get it. Maybe it’s tied to their careers, maybe they just hate going out, or perhaps they lack confidence and feel they can finally be whoever they want to be behind a screen? 🤷
