That sounds like an issue stemming from a recent Flash or Firefox update.
Try installing an older version of Flash to see if that fixes it, or just switch browsers entirely. If you want something similar to Firefox, try this:

First, clear your browser's cookies and cache, then perform a full factory reset on the application. Download the latest Flash here:

Check if you have any internet accelerator software running. Run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and clean up your system using CCleaner.

If it still doesn't work, come back and tell us which browser you're using, your OS, and whether your internet connection is functioning normally otherwise.

This is a strange issue. Your easiest fix is probably just disabling sleep mode entirely.
Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options
You likely have "Balanced" selected right now. Go ahead and click "Change plan settings," then set "Put the computer to sleep" to "Never."

Alternatively, if you feel like digging deeper, head into your network sharing settings. Click on your active connection—it will likely be labeled "Local Area Connection"—then hit Properties and then Configure.
Once there, go to Power Management and uncheck everything related to saving power.

My apologies, that was my mistake. I wasn't aware that F8 doesn't work on Windows 8.🙂
I did some digging online, and it looks like you're going to need an installation DVD.
Here is the link; you'll need to follow method 2:

Try booting into Safe Mode. When you power it down and turn it back on, tap the F8 key to pull up the menu and select Safe Mode. If it bypasses the menu and starts loading Windows, shut it down again and hit F8 immediately. Keep repeating that until the menu actually appears.
Once you're in Safe Mode, try running a System Restore; it might fix the issue, or you could just try a simple restart to see if luck is on your side.
If a System Restore works, try installing the updates one by one rather than all at once. You also need to make sure you upgrade to 8.1 eventually.

I know I'm not offering much here, but using F8 to get into Safe Mode seems like your only shot right now. 🙂

Technically, you can do it, but it isn't strictly legal. If this is just for your own personal use at home, then go ahead and reuse the license. However, if you are using that laptop for a business or a startup where an IRS audit could actually happen, just buy the retail version and be done with it.

You've already swapped out the power supply and the hard drive, and it's still dead. At this point, you're down to testing a different motherboard. 🙂
If all your hardware is actually functional, installing an OS should be a breeze. Check which CPU you're running, hunt down a used motherboard with a matching socket, and once you swap it in, everything should work fine.
Maybe try some different RAM too, just to rule out a faulty stick.

I did some digging online, and it looks like the newer recording devices don't support 4x recording. However, there’s a forum where people discuss this and upload various firmware updates specifically to fix these kinds of issues.

The software isn't intuitive; you'll need to spend some time figuring it out. However, once you do, it works perfectly.
