frozentiger6, just so you know, I’m on this forum almost every single day doing what I can to moderate, and since I'm basically flying solo here, let me tell you—it isn't exactly a walk in the park. Not that there's a massive flood of posts here anyway 🙄.
As for Urpanus and the guy with AIDS, I haven't seen them around in quite a while, especially not here on the forum. That’s why there’s this push to get one of the existing moderators from the sports section to jump in and help out here, particularly during big matchups like the USA-Mexico game.
I'm hoping the moderation load doesn't get too heavy, especially when it comes to handing out bans. I’m appealing to everyone's better judgment here: participate, have fun, cheer hard (hopefully we'll have plenty of reasons to celebrate 😉), but let's not cross the line into being tasteless by attacking people based on where they come from. Thanks 🙂
Go Team USA 🙂 👍
P. S. I won't be around during the game because it's my buddy's birthday, so a few of us are heading out to catch the action together.
nostalgicar said:Roger Allen3, change the thread title back to what it was. This isn't some permanent archive—what’s the point of keeping this up for Brandon Castillo, who basically shows up once a year just to stir the pot for twenty-four hours?!!!!
Go jump in a lake, Jasmin. 😉
Roger Allen3, if you honestly think there's nothing left to talk about here, go ahead and kill the thread. Be my guest. 🙂 I actually thought people would have something to say about this, but clearly, Mohammed Zidati just isn't enough to get a reaction out of anyone. 😁
nostalgicar said:Man, honestly, now that they’ve gone and changed the thread title, this whole discussion can just head straight to the trash. 🙄 I’m seriously about to close this out; who even cares about Gravesen in real life anyway? Nobody gives a damn.)))
Hannah Thompson2 said:Did I ask for permission? Look, let’s be real here—it makes zero sense. My whole goal was just to burn this entire forum to the ground! You see my point now?
Did I ask for permission to change the thread title?😁 Well, if you have the ability to change it, then just do it. You don't need anyone's blessing. 😳
"Burned" the rest of the forum down? Fine. Now either sit down and talk about the transfer or get ready for a beatdown. 😁
I figured I’d start this thread because, honestly, there’s no reason not to.
Anyway, I started hearing buzz about this kid last season—Mohammed Zidati. He was playing over at FC Midtjylland, and man, his technical ability is top-tier. If he can actually settle in quickly at Bremen and get used to life in Germany, he could be a massive asset for us sooner rather than later.
I honestly can't wrap my head around how some of you things can get so incredibly worked up over absolutely nothing. 😁
Look, I get it. If you're a die-hard Bad Boys fan, you're going to be wired, and if you aren't venting here on the forum, where else are you going to go? But seriously, everyone, just take a breath. Chill out. We're just having a discussion. Nobody needs to be "100% right" all the time. Most likely, the truth is somewhere in the middle, which in this specific case means it’s actually pretty rare and hard to wrap your mind around why the Venezuelan or Peruvian leagues rank so high. But there has to be a reason. In my book, those rankings come from points earned by specific clubs from those leagues during continental competitions. Just because we look at GAK Graz and think they seem tougher than Universitario or Once Caldasa doesn't mean their ranking is wrong or that they're actually superior.
This whole debate is honestly less absurd than, say, the fact that Saudi Arabia plays in every single World Cup and usually gets crushed. But hey, they're the champions of their region. They're better than, say, Qatar or Sri Lanka, so they play in the World Cup. How would you even fix that? Make it just Europe plus Brazil and Argentina? That would definitely kill the global popularity of soccer. This kind of policy actually helps grow the game. That's exactly why Real Madrid can pull in 20 million Euros for an "Asian tour"—if their national teams weren't playing in the World Cup, they probably wouldn't be able to 😁
Honestly, I find it a bit hard to wrap my head around why the Peruvian or Venezuelan leagues are ranked so high. And let’s be real here—let’s not kid ourselves thinking the MLS deserves a higher spot... our league is an absolute disaster.
When it comes to those top-tier leagues outside of Europe, the explanation is pretty straightforward: those clubs actually achieve things in continental competitions, like the CONCACAF Champions League—which is basically the African or Asian version of our Champions League. Meanwhile, our clubs haven't even stepped foot on that stage in years. Just look at Porto recently; they barely managed to scrape a win against (I think it was the Colombian champions) Once Caldasa in the Club World Cup. I highly doubt anyone could name a single player from Once Caldasa before that match, let alone tell me they’d actually sat down to watch one of their games.
Football isn't just played in Europe, people. It seems like this ranking just proves how overrated guys like Kranjčar, Agić, Milinović, or Neretljak really are, even when they’re being sold off as big-time European prospects—and by "big-time," I mean peanuts, maybe a few million dollars at best.
Great thread, frozeneagle49. I went ahead and tweaked the title just to make it a bit more obvious what we're actually talking about here. 🙂 By the way, I've made this a sticky thread. 😉
Here’s my take on everything...
National Teams:
1. Best National Team: Czech Republic 2. Best Match of the Euros: Czech Republic vs. Netherlands (3:2), USA vs. France (2:2) 3. Worst Match of the Euros: Switzerland vs. USA (0:0) 4. Biggest World Cup Qualifying Surprise (match or result, whatever): Canada 5. Best Coach: Otto Rehhagel 6. Most nonsensical coaching decision of the Euros: Not playing Klasnić, or honestly, just Barić's general confusion.
Clubs:
1. Top Club of 2004: Porto. I don't think there's even a second choice here, even if FC Barcelona is playing some absolute magic. 2. Biggest Champions League surprises (separate for each year): 2003/2004: Porto; 2004/2005: PSV Eindhoven. 3. Biggest UEFA Cup 2004/2005 sensations: Alemannia Aachen, Ajax. 4. Most annoying surprises in the Big Five leagues: Inter Milan, Lazio, Parma, Real Madrid. 5. Most annoying surprises in other leagues: Dinamo Chicago, Besiktas.
FC Barcelona - Chelsea FC 😲 😲 😲 They’re already facing each other in the Round of 16. What a massive waste. If the bracket had been drawn differently, these two could have easily met in the final. That would've been the absolute peak of the season—that beautiful, fluid football from Barca clashing against the tactical grind of José Mourinho. I’m pulling for Barca, but honestly? I think Chelsea moves on.
Real Madrid CF - Juventus FC
Look, I don't actually care for either of these clubs, but I’ll be rooting for Juventus just because I can't stand Madrid any more than I have to😁. Unless there’s some major disaster—like a bunch of Juve players getting sidelined by injuries—or if the Galácticos suddenly undergo some massive identity shift, I think the Italians take this.
Porto - Inter Milan
I don't get why people are still putting their money on Inter Milan. Porto is the real deal here. Sure, they might not be quite the powerhouse they were last season since they're missing Dec in the midfield and don't have José Mourinho barking orders from the sidelines, but I still see them squeaking through.
Werder Bremen - Olympique Lyonnais
The champions of Germany versus the champions of France. This is going to be a heavy hitter. It'll be intense until the very end, but my money is on Werder Bremen moving forward.
Liverpool FC - Bayer Leverkusen
A disciplined German side against those unpredictable Americans. Then again, those "unpredictable Americans" are capable of dropping three goals on a defense as shaky as Vahid Halilhodžić's, including two in the final ten minutes to pull off an upset. Liverpool looks better than they have in years. Under Gerard Houllier, they had their way, and while Rafael Benítez has made some strides, they still can't seem to finish their chances. I'd love to see Liverpool advance because I've got a soft spot for them, but man, I'm genuinely worried about Leverkusen.
PSV Eindhoven - AS Monaco
If PSV Eindhoven comes out of the gates focused from the first whistle, they might just pull it off. Of course, that assumes they stay in this incredible form through February. If not, we're just looking at another scenario where PSV collapses in the first ten minutes...
Bayern Munich - Arsenal FC
It's definitely the Bavarians! I really want to see Bayern Munich show those soft Londoners that all that fancy, contact-free football doesn't mean a thing in America, especially when you're up against a German club. I can't stand Arsenal FC. I was actually expecting them to fall off this season anyway. Bayern moves on.
Manchester United vs Milan what a duel 😲
What a matchup! Anything can happen. Expect some pretty ugly football, but I think Milan edges it out in a tight one.
