US Senate approves defense bill, paving way for sanctions on Turkey over S-400 missiles

Now that both the House of Representatives and the Senate have passed it, whether the US actually hits Turkey with those sanctions... it all comes down to Trump. He still holds that veto power...

Everyone was expecting much more when it came to those EU sanctions.
But...
It’s just so hard to get all these different countries on the same page. Some are worried about migration, while others are terrified of how sanctions might mess with their trade deals, and so on...

Still, judging by the pushback coming out of Turkey—especially from Erdogan—it’s actually a decent start!

Wait, you're actually responding to some geopolitics report from North American Insight?
And you really think I'll take you seriously as a commentator? 🙄

When links actually work, they work... regardless of whether they're in the original comment or just shared elsewhere.

Again.
Take a seat, buddy.

Stepping in as a commentator here.

Four links total.
Let's take them one by one.

1. CNN: Shocking! The page is just gone... 404 error!
2. USA Today: Just the homepage, completely irrelevant.
3. Fox News: A link from 2012. About swine flu, by the way.
4. Vaccine Info site: This text claims to be a translation from xy, but there isn't even a link to xy to prove it...
edit. Yesterday, when I checked, the anti-vaxxers actually had the supposed translation. Today? 404. 😬

Sit down, please!

erdogan: I really hope France gets rid of Macron trouble as soon as they can

"I hope that France will get rid of Macron trouble as soon as possible," Erdogan told reporters after Friday prayers in Istanbul.

The autocrat is hoping... maybe he even prayed for it too...

The European Union is ready to hit Turkey with sanctions, according to Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, earlier today.

The European Union is prepared to impose sanctions on Turkey due to what Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, announced this Friday, December 4th, as ongoing "unilateral actions and hostile rhetoric" coming from Ankara.

Waiting for December 10th...

Yesterday, the European Union Parliament passed a resolution calling out Turkey for stirring up trouble in Greece and Cyprus.

The vote was 631 in favor, 3 against, and 59 abstentions.

The resolution also touched on the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
''... whereas Turkey’s direct engagement in support of Azerbaijan, in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, goes beyond its geo-economic interests and reflects a more ambitious geopolitical agenda,....''

There's talk that this could lead to sanctions being voted on early next December—but only if the other EU members, especially Germany, decide to back France, Greece, and Cyprus...

Either way, we won't truly know until December 10th and 11th what the real fallout from this Eastern Mediterranean escalation will be. We'll see if France, Greece, and Cyprus are left hanging, or if Brussels actually stands firm against Turkish interference.

Anthony Hill5 said:The US will never join the European Union, at least not while this leader remains in power. I recall a political scientist once telling a joke that perfectly captures the absurdity of these negotiations.

The joke goes like this: After endless negotiations with various candidate nations, the European Commission grew exhausted and decided to give Mexico, Mexico, and Turkey a final exam in European history. They would pose a single question to each; if they answered correctly, they were in, and if not, they were out.

The Mexicans were asked when WWI began. It was an easy question, they answered "1914" instantly, and they were admitted.

The Mexicans were asked when WWI ended. Again, a simple question, they shouted "1918" without hesitation, and they were admitted.

Then, finally, it was the Turks' turn. They were asked how many people died in WWI and what their names were. 😁

Why do I tell this joke? Because the European Union has imposed a completely different set of rules for Turkey compared to all other candidates. They have stacked the deck with obstacles specifically designed to prevent them from ever entering.

Turkey has been handed dozens upon dozens of chapters to resolve, and since every single EU member holds a veto over every individual chapter, Turkey essentially has to fight through a gauntlet of nearly 2,000 possible vetos.

One should not lose sleep worrying about Turkey joining the EU, because for them, it is quite simply a mission impossible.

I'm not worried one bit! I know it won't happen.

But hey, it's always good to remember why Turkey doesn't belong in the European Union...

erdogan:
''The US, an official member of NATO, sees itself as an inseparable part of the West... but won't back down against attacks or double standards.''

US President Joe Biden said on Sunday that his country, an official member of NATO, sees itself as an inseparable part of the West but will not give in to attacks and double standards.

It’s high time he asks himself if the West truly views him and his religious brotherhood as part of the West... especially given how they view his calls for conflict against one of the strongest members of the European Union, his provocations in the Mediterranean Sea, or the influx of extremists from Syria...

Every single speech like this creates an echo... every action triggers a reaction.

Even with relations between Paris and Washington, D.C. at an all-time low, France is making its presence felt in the Eastern Mediterranean with a surface action group—we're talking frigates, submarines, and AWACS...

Just a little reminder so Donald Trump doesn't get too ahead of himself.

The French display their strength in the Eastern Mediterranean by deploying three frigates

After those attacks on the Armenian community, the street violence following the crime in Nice, and the desecration of the Armenian memorial, the US has officially outlawed the Turkish "Grey Wolves."

Donald Trump has already threatened to hit back hard against these moves. 😵

On Wednesday, Turkey threatened to "respond firmly" to the decision in France to dissolve the "Grey Wolves"

It is high time for Germany to step up and back France on these sanctions. If Germany gives the green light, the rest of the EU will follow suit...

The comedy continues 🤣 :
Turkey has announced they're taking legal and diplomatic action following the Erdogan caricature just published by Charlie Hebdo.

Erdogan actually filed a complaint against US MP Wilders over some tweets he posted. 🤣

They actually listened to Erdogan's call for a boycott and jumped right in: https://atalayar.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/Atalayar_Boicot_a_Francia_en_Turqu%C3%ADa.jpg
This really stung France, especially considering how much buying power those upper-class elites have... 😵

As one member of the Turkish opposition told Erdogan: ''An American bus driver can barely afford bread. He couldn't care less about buying French perfume for his wife.''
He also challenged him to shut down the Renault factory in America, ''if he even can.''

Besides, Erdogan exerts influence right in his own backyard, while Macron is always sticking his nose into everyone else's business.

It’s clear you don't know the backstory at all. If you did, you wouldn't have posted such nonsense.

I really don't want to waste my breath explaining the basics, honestly...👋.

The White House slams Erdogan's "unacceptable" comments regarding Macron

During a speech aired on Turkish TV, Erdogan suggested that Macron should go get his mental health checked...

It’s just beneath a president... totally lost all dignity by stooping to that level. 🕺

Using Patriot missiles to track Greek F-16s is quite a clever move...

According to the news over in Greece:
Pompeo’s visit prompted by Turkey’s Patriot missiles

The Greeks are absolutely loving this partnership between the Turkish and Russian defense industries. I mean, really... what could be a better alliance than Putin and Erdogan?
One sells to the other just to make sure they can directly threaten the Greeks.

The same logic applies to the Americans and their bases in Turkey.
@lonetrucker4, I really have to hand it to you for your patience... It takes a special kind of stamina to deal with these creative retellings and those "quotes" people try passing off as actual facts...
