What does this explanation even mean? in Philosophy ·
Arthur Grant4 said:What exactly constitutes an explanation for a phenomenon? And more importantly, what value does such an explanation actually hold?
What does it truly mean to "understand" something?
Why did our ancestors, while gazing up at the night sky, assume those stars were something more profound than mere tiny, flickering pebbles suspended in the void?
Where does this impulse come from—this belief that things aren't always as they appear, and this nagging demand for an explanation? And what even is an "explanation"? It seems to me we've simply ended up right back where we started.

It's because THINGS ARE NOT what they APPEAR TO BE.

It’s quite straightforward, really.

Now, am I permitted to move on to other questions?
EVERYTHING I AM "PLEADING FOR"

everything posted within this thread is a TRANSLATION by one particular MASTER (in this instance, hiddenpuma75) of a TEXT that may very well contain

a "TESTIMONY" of enlightenment or perhaps

an INSIGHT INTO AN ENLIGHTENMENT THAT IS NONEXISTENT

My dear

I am certain there is some young man you’ve taken a liking to, yet he happens to be the shy type
who will likely never find the courage to approach you first.

Why not just invite him out for a movie and some ice cream?

If you don't, you won't be thinking about these little "strategies," nor will you end up

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

But then again, who's actually going to argue against her?🙂 😲
It isn't the act of translating from English that bothers me—whether I’m translating word-for-word or simply transcribing the source material is all the same to me. My issue is more visceral; I feel a certain resistance when attempting to translate or transcribe what feels like a mere "patchwork" of a book, especially when the work is intended to be a cohesive whole—a meticulous roadmap of a journey.

In fact, a SINGLE WORD can be SUFFICIENT

much like how a SINGLE post of yours is ENOUGH TO SAY EVERYTHING
that hundreds of others might attempt to ramble about.

And as for the integrity of the WHOLE, don't lose sleep over it; it isn't even part of any single BOOK anyway.

You frequently find yourself quoting rather than actually providing commentary.
For instance, look at that thread I started—the one regarding where the individual self ends and begins.

You quoted my entire post, but you did it in such a way that you simply copied the whole thing without crediting the author, essentially signing it with your own handle.

Now, look, I realize you weren't intentionally trying to plagiarize.

Perhaps your intention was to reiterate the points you found compelling.

Or maybe you intended to offer some sort of critique but failed to actually do so.

Or who knows what your thought process was there? Just tell us.

But that isn't how you engage in a discussion, because you end up leaving people completely confused about the context of the conversation.

I always strive to speak with LIVING WORDS whenever it is within my power.
That would mean words born from the moment and the circumstances of the PRESENT, emerging from my own
"inner" essence, free from any call of
MEMORY or anything else.
Sometimes I succeed, and in those moments, those words carry a WEIGHT and a COMPLETENESS
that they otherwise lack.

LIVING WORDS resonate with LIFE in a way that provides something to it that is otherwise missing—something most people aren't even aware of. It acts as a final validation of LIFE itself. Every WORD flows from this work.

There is no pretense here; it is KNOWN AND VISIBLE
and it can be READ BETWEEN THE LINES, BETWEEN THE LETTERS. Sometimes, a single word
can be MORE SUBSTANTIAL than hundreds or thousands of them combined. There is an incredible MAGIC in words when you FEEL and SEE that someone has uttered just one single word with such GRAVITY that it communicates EVERYTHING
THAT A THOUSAND WORDS COULD SAY.
A SINGLE WORD is sufficient to reveal the secret of language.

As for what happened regarding me writing "your words" as if they were mine...
Look, you still don't quite grasp it; I am still convinced that I wrote them in the exact same manner in which I always write, and because of that, I feel them entirely as "my own." Perhaps I had read them previously and integrated them into my internal software
so seamlessly that I wasn't even conscious of it, which is entirely possible and quite likely. You can judge for yourself whether I reproduced your text letter for letter or if there are subtle differences, but honestly, it doesn't even matter.

So, that’s my take on the matter.👋
People claim they need to quiet their thoughts, but that’s only true in a RELATIVE sense, because I am not merely someone who thinks
I AM the thought itself..
The stream of consciousness remains constant.

🙂 🙂 🙂
What kind of nonsense is this...

I’m talking about those ego-chasers 🙂
redrider63, it seems to me that you are overreaching in several respects. This discourse regarding Being, this "I AM" state, isn't nearly as mystical as you seem to imagine it to be.

Where did I ever suggest that it was MYSTICAL?

Why would you assume I am IMAGINING anything at all?

I am merely stating WHAT IS TO BE SAID.

IT IS VERY SIMPLE AND REQUIRES NO IMAGINATION.

What I essentially meant to convey was that Buddha did not explicitly speak of the transcendental, as doing so would only lead the questioners into further confusion. Treat this "BECAUSE" very conditionally, just like any other "since," "therefore," or "due to."

DO NOT introduce the TRANSCENDENTAL
because it is irrelevant to our current discussion. In the example I referenced, Buddha SIMPLY ANSWERED without any concession, immediately rejecting Being directly by simply seeing THAT WHICH IS. In doing so, he stripped away all mental constructs and broke through openly.

In this specific instance, there was no concession. I did not claim that Buddha didn't practice such concessions in other contexts.

The DISSOLUTION OF THE MIND does not mean that a "person" cannot UNDERSTAND. What we refer to as the "MIND" is essentially Being, merely "apparently separate." That is to say, after the dissolution of the mind, the functions of what we previously called the mind still remain, only now they are inseparable from….

THE DISSOLUTION OF THE MIND is THE DISSOLUTION OF THE MIND, and there is no room for UNDERSTANDING here, because once the mind IS DISSOLVED, there is nothing rational left; one might even say that MU no longer exists. All descriptions come afterward and, therefore, have no CONNECTION to the event itself.
That is to say, everything else you are discussing has nothing to do with the DISSOLUTION itself, even if it pertains to describing the INDESCRIBABLE.

Being "speaks" even when a donkey brays, yet we don't "SHINE" at every single donkey's bray.

BEING SPEAKS even when the donkey is SILENT.

And we "SHINE" ALL THE TIME.

ambereagle642 said:That could just be your own intellectual conviction or opinion. You are judging her by your own standards, whereas I am judging you by mine.
But if, among everything else, non-Christian ADVAITA texts have presented her as an example of someone who has 'finished the work,' then there ought to be some element of truth in that.
No one who hasn't experienced THAT (not even one who truly is) can describe it the way she did.
Whether anyone wants to nitpick her punctuation or claim she missed a comma where it 'should' have been is entirely up to the individual.

So, Jane, let me ask you one more thing;
give me an example—aside from these little pet theories of yours—of someone you believe has truly 'finished the job'!

THAT speaks through different LANGUAGES, STYLES, AND PERSONALITIES, but if you ARE, then
YOU notice THAT in THAT which lies BEYOND WORDS, BEYOND STYLES, AND BEYOND PERSONALITIES.

ALTHOUGH IT WOULD BE BETTER TO SIMPLY SAY "THAT IS ALL, AND YOU SEE IT."
Except, not everyone speaks FROM THAT (from THAT [of THAT]).

Go ahead, translate something else of hers. 👋

This captures the very core of the wisdom offered by the Sage known as Gautama Buddha. I recall reading of an instance where an inquirer approached him regarding the immortality of the soul. The Sage responded by stating: “That soul about whose survival you are anxious does not exist even now; it is unreal.” His intention was to point out that the questioner was operating under the flawed premise of an individual soul—a concept that holds no true reality—meaning the inquiry itself was built upon a fallacy; Buddha did not mean to deny the existence of the real Self. The individual failed to grasp the nuance of the response, walking away convinced the Sage was claiming there is no Self whatsoever. Instead of retreating, he should have pressed deeper: ‘Is there a real Self, and if so, what is its actual nature?’ Because he didn't, the Sage found himself having shaken the man's convictions without actually providing enlightenment. It is a crucial point: when a question is rooted in a false assumption, a simple affirmative or negative answer is impossible; any direct answer would inherently be incorrect.

👋

Gautama Buddha answered from the perspective of the "Self" as the ultimate "I AM." He made no concessions to a particular consciousness, thereby
submerging it, and he felt no need to speak in the language
of the DISSECTED MIND. Such a thing was unnecessary because what He spoke cannot truly be grasped by intellect. WHEN the Self "speaks,"
there is nothing to comprehend, and the Mind cannot capture it; rather, the "Mind" is submerged and dissolves into the listener's Self, through which
he is TOUCHED. Consequently, there is no need for understanding, nor can there be an explanation of His words that remains logical or sensible. If such comprehension were possible,

the total SUBMERSION OF THE MIND WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE.

I see no reason why Buddha would be dissatisfied. The fact that the man failed to ask a follow-up question is irrelevant. He RECEIVED A DIRECT FLASH into the Self
AND THAT IS WHAT MATTERS MOST

so that the TRUE SELF OR TRUE NATURE
might be AWAKENED.
