True, I just saw the explanation. Honestly, I think they'll definitely land in the top 10 during the sprint, and even with the penalties, they'll still fight their way onto the podium by the end of the race.
Go get 'em, Lewis!

Edit: …specifically where Hamilton starts at the very back

He’s banned from competing today, so he'll be sitting at the back of the grid tomorrow.
Look, I don't get why everyone is suddenly acting like Max bumping into Lewis Hamilton's car is such a massive scandal. It’s funny how people react. If we're talking about being nosy, Sebastian Vettel is probably the most famous guy on the grid for poking around other people's cars—especially Lewis Hamilton's. I mean, I'm pretty sure he spent days practically feeling out the entire bodywork of that Ferrari.

Seriously though, ever since they announced Russell, Valtteri just decided he’s going on permanent vacation. He’s totally checked out, and honestly, watching him constantly troll people on Instagram is just ridiculous.
Wait, is this actually the last Sprint of the season?

I am absolutely loving this Valtteri Bottas troll.

Toto is breathing down his neck, his own teammate is calling him out, but honestly? He just doesn't give a damn.🤣.

There is no way on earth I'm letting anyone convince me he didn't slow down early on purpose just to let Max Verstappen through.🤣

Whether he was right or not doesn't even matter. This is just blatant, smug entitlement. He’s basically mocking someone because he thinks they aren't on his level.

He saw the backlash to what he said, and he did it on purpose. That’s why he’s now crawling back with those fake apologies and "clarifications."

He said what he said. It was arrogant and totally unsportsmanlike. This kind of behavior is exactly why the fans generally can't stand him. People boo him at tracks all over the country, regardless of how much he tries to suck up to the crowd with his commentary.

There you go—the perfect breakdown of how Max behaved when he was stuck in the middle of that second group. It’s wild looking back at how much he had to brake compared to Valtteri Bottas yesterday, and just how much extra distance he had to cover to stay clear of the Mercedes-Benz before swinging wide to pass the Ferrari on the outside.

Look at this image again—this is exactly how things looked on track right before the braking zone:

The bottom line here is simple: Hamilton took pole. He’s the one in control, and he should be dictating exactly how this race goes.

That's fine and all, I just want to touch on what would have happened if Max Verstappen was in Bottas's shoes. Bottas actually braked earliest of the three because both drivers lunged right past him the second he hit the brakes.

He saw there was absolutely no way to defend against Max Verstappen, so his brain probably just went "fuck it, I'm out" and he slammed the brakes. He isn't interested in doing the dirty work for Hamilton anymore, even if he won't say it out loud. A few subtle jabs are enough for him; he's probably too much of a gentleman to make a scene in public.

graniteharbor502 said:How do you think the FIA and the fans would react if Valtteri Bottas intentionally rammed Max Verstappen just to knock him out of the race?
Does it actually make sense for Bottas to pull a dirty stunt like that, especially when he’d likely take himself out in the first corner too? 🤷
Everything is going to hell if we expect drivers in Formula 1 to stop racing and start intentionally smashing into each other instead...

Look, Bottas was braking way, way earlier than he should have been. That's why he brings up Max. If he were in Max's position, he would have braked much later and closed the door on the outside line, because being on the outside gives you the advantage over the car on the inside.

Maybe Bottas just got spooked by a potential collision. Or maybe he's fed up with Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes and decided to sabotage them right before the season ends. Who knows? Personally, I'm leaning toward the second option.
We've already seen him give up positions to Max Verstappen a few times this season without much of a fight—even though they were talking to him over the radio.

Those Instagram digs aimed at Mercedes involving all that engine junk, plus the way he was reacting while watching the Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton crash on the screen behind him... it speaks volumes.

And then the stylist acts all surprised when the crowd starts booing him at every single race.
One tiny little contact point and Ricciard loses the entire front wing
Mercedes-Benz is left high and dry without any support
Max shot out like a rocket! 🙏

What an incredible start

Kyle Lopez2 said:Give me a break. He caught him right on the rear tire at the apex of a corner that Bottas entered perfectly fine, while this guy came flying in at a ninety-degree angle.😵

Look, I’m not saying there wasn't contact, but it wasn't that blatant, aggressive, classic "I'm going to ram you" move where someone locks up, just like how Bottas did to Norris and the Red Bull guys.

He locked up a bit and clipped the tire. Honestly, he did more damage to his own car than he did to the other guy's.

Drew Bennett68 said:Pierre Gasly finishing 4th? Respect.

Honestly, he should be seeing finishes like this all season—and even last year—if the guy hadn't been hit by that massive accident. It feels like almost every single race, someone screws him over. It’s either his own team making a bad call or some other driver slamming into him. He tries to dodge everyone, ends up spinning out, and just falls down the order. It's frustrating to watch.

graniteharbor502 said:Why didn't Daniel Ricciardo get penalized for taking out Valtteri Bottas?

I wouldn't really call that a clean hit. He locked up a bit, and Valtteri Bottas actually squeezed him slightly. The contact was tiny. It’s obvious Bottas was still pinned to the floor at that exact moment too, which caused that wheel spin.

Anthony Baker84 said:If Max hadn't dealt with so many DNFs and if Perez had actually been competitive instead of taking forever to find his rhythm, they would have secured both championships by now.

Honestly, if those tires had just held up that one time, he’d practically have one hand on the trophy already.
Mexico City GP: Nov. 5-7, 2021 in Formula 1 ·
Just imagine the absolute chaos at the end of the season. Max comes down with COVID-19, and then Lewis Hamilton—who’s basically walking around in a mask everywhere anyway—snatches the championship title 🤣
