I was watching some highlights of the multi-event competitions last night, and it really got me thinking about the sheer mental stamina required for those kinds of athletes. It’s one thing to be the best at a single sprint or a single throw, but to have to switch gears constantly between completely different disciplines? That seems like a recipe for a total burnout if you aren't careful.
I used to compete in regional decathlons back in college, and by the third event, my brain was basically mush. It wasn't even the physical fatigue that got to me; it was the constant context-switching. You go from a burst of explosive energy to something that requires technical precision or long-distance pacing, and trying to find that "flow" every single time is exhausting.
It makes me wonder how much of their success comes down to pure athleticism versus just having the mental discipline to reset after a mediocre performance in one event so it doesn't ruin the next one.
Do you think specialized athletes have it easier mentally, or is there a hidden advantage to being a "jack of all trades" in high-level competition?
I don't think you're pregnant. Just wait for the blood test results; if you aren't pregnant, the levels should be under 5.
Nancy Smith72 said:Look, honey, I honestly can't decide whether to feel sorry for you—since you clearly aren't all there and seem to be struggling mentally—or just call you out on this. It’s truly pathetic how you're treating yourself, and if you actually are pregnant, that poor little thing too. It’s sad that girls like you even exist.
I think once you snap out of it and find your footing again, you ought to seek some kind of professional help. Seriously, you need it.
I agree. I won't even touch upon the medical or moral fallout of what you've done right now; instead, my recommendation is that you go see a doctor immediately.
We finally managed to get Emma on board tonight. One less headache to deal with. 🙂 $23 pounds.
Rebecca Fox2 said:Exactly! $17/lb. I didn't ask about cakes since ours is already included in the catering package.
Just to give you guys a little comparison, we went to Emma's and the Little Cookie House this past Saturday. Honestly, the pastries at all three shops are delicious. My only hesitation with Emma's is that they have a lot of heavy, creamy desserts, and I’m a bit worried about how that might hold up at a wedding when the weather is already pretty warm—it just doesn't look great once it starts melting. But we definitely told them they're our top choice for any other parties we host down the road.
The Little Cookie House makes seriously amazing Canadian cream cakes (one of my absolute favorites), but the lady there mentioned she’s bumping up her prices per pound starting around Easter, so we ended up deciding on Stubica instead.
They can easily tailor the dessert menu to the season. If it's going to be hot, they simply won't do the heavy, cream-based stuff; right now, they focus on those because it's cold out and that's what people want. Plus, you have the freedom to pick the exact sweets you want. Personally, I'm a huge fan of their chocolate fudge brownies—they're incredible.🙂
mmm, chocolate and banana smoothie 🙂
northernhawk87, I was passing through a small town in the US the other day and noticed that Emma is in those new buildings right by the tracks, positioned vertically to the railroad. I haven't had the chance to go check it out yet, but I fully intend to head over there in the next few days. When you visit, I'll take you there so we can test it out together; I don't mind trying 🙂 🤣
I recently attended a wedding where they served Black Forest cake for the centerpiece, and honestly, it was delicious and beautifully presented. I haven't given much thought to what my own dream wedding cake would look like—perhaps a different flavor for every tier—but one layer would definitely be Black Forest!
