What makes you happy? in Philosophy ·
Matthew Ruiz2 said:Indeed, I have experienced that exact same correlation with food, though I exclude chocolate from my equation. Chocolate is a legitimate foodstuff that has been scientifically proven to boost mood—specifically enhancing positivity and joy. However, that feeling of satiety after a heavy lunch is what I would truly define as the satisfaction of a full stomach. Fortunately, achieving that requires entirely different factors. One can be hungry yet perfectly happy. For me, happiness is primarily driven by others, specifically those close to me.
And love, certainly! 😍, most people immediately think of love when asked to define happiness. Love... but what does it transform into when it is unrequited (in the context of a relationship between two people)? A source of misery? To what extent does this happiness depend on ourselves, or rather, our own egos? If we expect nothing—meaning we seek neither reciprocity nor validation, finding fulfillment simply in the fact that we feel loved—can we bypass misery and remain perpetually happy?

Happiness as a piece of sunlight. That is an interesting comparison, given that sunlight exposure is one of the primary elements that promotes good spirits. Add some chocolate to the mix, and perhaps we might actually catch a wave of sudden euphoria, ha.

As for comparing oneself to the rest of the world, I cannot say for certain. If I compare my situation to Albania, perhaps I am doing better, which might offer a fleeting sense of contentment, if not true happiness. But if I compare myself to Denmark, I descend straight into depression. Friends, however, consistently rank among the highest sources of pleasure and happiness in various studies.
Reconciling with fate—"accepting what you cannot change" as rustygull12 puts it—strikes me as mere resignation. In modern American society, boundaries are dissolving. Nothing stops us from pursuing whatever will make us happy. Information is accessible to everyone through endless media channels. The prevailing sentiment today is that "everyone is the architect of their own fortune." There is no such thing as something you cannot change. You simply have to want it.

I once read somewhere that unrequited love doesn't actually exist, and honestly, the more I sit with that thought, the more I have to agree. Think about it: if the person you’re falling for doesn't feel the same way, that energy has to go somewhere. It doesn't just vanish into thin air. Instead, it transforms. It comes back to you in different ways—maybe it sparks a sudden burst of creativity, helps you discover a strength you didn't know you had, or pushes you to open a door you never would have dared to knock on otherwise. In a sense, there’s no such thing as wasted affection. It’s just that when we’re caught in the middle of all that heartbreak and sadness, it’s nearly impossible to see how much that pain was actually necessary to get us to where we need to be.

It’s hard not to get attached. Commitment asks so much of us. It’s this massive, ongoing project of self-improvement—constantly refining who we are to make sure our actions actually line up with the values we hold dear.

Actually, that comparison isn't even mine—it’s from Katherine Mansfield. Here is the full quote: What do you even do when you hit thirty and suddenly—just as you turn the corner onto your own street—you’re hit by this wave of pure, unadulterated bliss? It’s like you accidentally swallowed a glowing shard of that late afternoon sunlight, and now it’s just radiating inside your chest, firing off little rockets of light to every single inch of your body, down to your very fingertips and toes. "

The chapter leading up to this quote is titled: Real Life Isn't Somewhere Else.

Matthew Ruiz2 said:So, what does happiness actually mean to you? And what about misery? Is misery simply the direct inverse of happiness, or is there a more complex relationship at play? Furthermore, what provides lasting fulfillment rather than just a fleeting moment?
Is happiness merely an abstract concept, a transient feeling, or perhaps a profound experience? Have you ever truly felt it? If so, how did it manifest—in whom, through what, and with what level of intensity?
If someone claims to be satisfied or fulfilled, does that necessarily imply they are happy? Can satisfaction even be equated with happiness? How much of a distinction do you draw between these two states?

It may be one of those eternal philosophical or sociological debates, but I expect nothing less than your most honest answers.

The world, nature, and the way I feel when I kiss someone—all those little moments in life—make me happy.
To me, happiness is a state of mind where you're open to everything life throws at you, noticing even the smallest things and finding wonder in them. 🙂 Being in that "happy state" is also incredibly fragile; so many things can pull us down or drive us to despair. But without that vulnerability, we wouldn't be able to sense change at all. Change is the only constant. The universe stays still while we travel through the shifts.

I see satisfaction differently; it feels more like a sense of fullness or comfort that you want to curl up around and protect—like that feeling of being stuffed after eating an incredible chocolate cake. It’s satisfying, but temporary. 🙂 Happiness doesn't have that "nutritional" limit. It feels more like swallowing a piece of the sun. It's something miraculous. A miracle. 🙂

It probably just ran late because you were sick and your immune system was run down... happens to me all the time. As soon as I get a fever, my whole cycle gets thrown completely out of whack. So glad you finally got it!👍

Hey there! I noticed you’re getting into the orchard business, so I was hoping to pick your brain. Which would be a smarter move for a one-acre plot: planting plums or cherries? Also, what kind of spacing should I use for Oblačinski?
Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
Hey everyone... As you can probably tell, I’m new here, and I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with a few questions...
About a month and a half ago, my mom had a really severe episode, and that’s when we first realized something was seriously wrong. She was experiencing all kinds of hallucinations and extreme paranoia—she felt like everyone was out to get her, like people were following her or trying to kidnap her...
She ended up being admitted to the hospital for about 20 days. At first, the doctors thought she was dealing with schizophrenia, but they eventually decided it was actually just an acute nervous breakdown. She’s back home now and is currently on a regimen of Moditen, Prazin, Normabell, and Akineton. We're seeing real improvement; all those scary symptoms have completely vanished. She’s staying consistent with her medication and is getting back to her normal daily routine...
Her official diagnosis is Acute Psychotic Reaction (F23.0), so if anyone could share some insight or more information about what that actually entails, I would be incredibly grateful....
I haven't been on here in a bit, but I finally tracked down a band that is absolutely incredible—even if they aren't exactly cheap. At the end of the day, the music is what matters most. The leader even told me straight up... "We don't play cheesy wedding covers or old-school country ballads." And honestly? My reaction was just... where have you guys been all my life?! The band is called Marinero, and they’re the backing group for Teddy Spalata. I'm thrilled. Now I can move on to my other "big" problems, like: getting confetti ready (I'm buying little bottles in Chicago to fill with our homemade bourbon), sewing my dream wedding dress, and so on, and so forth.
anyway, thanks everyone!
Oh, and by the way, I gave Rockatansky a call... they act like they're absolute A-list celebrities. Everyone started complaining about them because their breaks are way too long, and this guy kept trying to haggle on the price with me constantly. Even over the phone, he sounded incredibly stuck-up.

Anonymous said:what was he even saying...😕

Honestly, it was pretty pointless. He was basically rambling about how fans of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Atlanta Braves always back their own teams, but they shouldn't cause trouble at games because there aren't many Americans to begin with—and we'll have even fewer if we can't get along with each other. Basically, just a bunch of nonsense. 🙄
Have you ever thought about how you might just be fueling the cycle? You’re basically turning into one of them. Honestly, I think the smarter move is to just ignore the noise. If that doesn't work, then you go head-to-head and settle it once and for all. That way, next time, people will actually think twice before trying to mess with 😉

I stumbled upon this really cool site today. It looks like an American project dedicated to all things hardware, 3D modeling, coding, and more. It feels like they're just getting started, but I have a feeling it's going to be something special if they keep this up 🙏 www.life4tech.com

Psoriasis [PLEASE READ FIRST POST!] in Health ·
I'm Mario, originally from Ann Arbor. I found my way to this specific ointment and tea through some people I know, and honestly, I am beyond thrilled with the results. Psoriasis!!! It started showing up about 3 or 4 years ago, and after countless failed attempts with various creams and seeing all sorts of specialists, nothing seemed to work. That was until I heard about this DOCTOR... He’s based in Mexico, so you'll need to give him a call and talk things through. Then, you just need to find someone who can help coordinate getting everything delivered directly to your door. Once you connect, he'll explain the whole process—it is absolutely worth the effort. I wish you guys the best of luck. The cream is a total game-changer; it's completely natural with zero harmful ingredients like corticosteroids. It's very gentle on the skin, and the tea is as easy to drink as chamomile tea. Plus, it really helps soothe inflammation around the eyes—I was genuinely blown away. In less than two weeks, the patches on my legs completely cleared up, so I truly believe this is what you've been searching for. If I remember correctly, the price for one ointment and one cream is roughly $67. If you're going to order, my advice is to grab more of the ointment and less of the tea, because the ointment goes faster; I still have more than half of my tea left, and I apply the cream twice a day, morning and night. Also, you should bathe in plum extract during the treatment, which actually helps a lot. Just ask the guy everything you want to know; he'll explain it all and send over a checklist to follow while you're undergoing the treatment. IT IS WORTH IT, TRUST ME. And if you want more specifics, just shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help.

I swallowed a 5-gram plastic bead in Health ·
I accidentally swallowed a small plastic bead about 5 grams—roughly the size of a nickel—a couple of days ago. I’ve already used the restroom twice, but nothing has come up yet. Just a heads-up, I deal with constipation quite a bit.
I'm wondering if it'll just pass on its own or if I should be doing something specific? Honestly, I'm not feeling any pain at all right now.
This feels pretty serious to me, so I'd really appreciate some advice!
Thanks!
