How do I create a poll? in Forum Help! ·
You forgot to include the fourth option in the poll
So, you just found out you tested positive for HPV?
A close friend of mine went through this about six years ago. She treated it with topical applications at her OBGYN clinic (it was some kind of podophyllin solution—I can’t recall the exact concentration, but keep in mind a doctor has to administer that part).
On top of that, she picked up some interferon ointment and interferon vaginal suppositories (back then, they were actually manufactured by Pfizer, though I heard they might have stopped making them—you should probably double-check). The whole treatment lasted a few months and definitely wasn't cheap. Those suppositories were pricey, and honestly, even a tiny tube of the interferon cream cost about $23, and she had to apply it twice a day.
She also took echinacea—just standard herbal supplements to help boost her immune system.
After finishing that regimen, her tests came back clear, but she still has to go in for regular checkups because the virus stays dormant in your system.
Hang in there, you've got this!

Hey Jerry Doyle67,
I honestly think you're looking at seborrheic dermatitis. Let's be real—most dermatology diagnoses are just descriptive labels because, frankly, modern medicine still hasn't cracked the code on what actually causes it.
The most logical explanation I've come across is that it's fungal-related; basically, these fungi thrive on the sebum (the natural oils) on your skin.

Anyway, based on my own experience, here’s what worked for me: 1. Cut out sugar entirely for at least a month (and if you can, keep avoiding it altogether). 2. Wash your face 2 or 3 times a day with a good cleanser (I personally swear by Sebamed). 3. Try to get outside as much as possible to soak up some fresh air and sunlight.
It made a massive difference for me—I'd say I'm about 90% clear right now! And the best part? I didn't even need corticosteroids, which really do nothing more than provide temporary relief...

Life is a trip—or just a total death trap! in Philosophy ·
redwalker63 said:Look, V., this idea of a boundary that isn't physical—not up, down, left, right, or front-to-back—where death doesn't actually exist and life is just one continuous flow? It sounds like a beautiful concept, but man, it feels like a long road ahead.🙂
Let me clarify,😕
If someone as clueless and unrefined as I am imagines myself in an eternal state, God is going to be waiting a long time for me to actually grow. I evolve so slowly that I honestly think it’ll take a solid couple thousand years before I even get close to the shadow of the saints.
And when I say "saints," I don't mean those stuffy, formal religious figures; I mean people who are totally relaxed, smiling, playful, and always ready to dive into a moment of pure wisdom.

You’re cracking me up. 🙂 How am I supposed to give you a serious answer now? 🙂

In all honesty, instead of worrying about some monotonous eternity, the real question is how to become truly aware of our own existence right here, right now. To realize that we actually *exist*. That’s something every single one of us has to discover for ourselves—nobody can hand that realization to us. No one else can define what "Life" is for us, because every life is unique in its own experience and its own labyrinth of winding streets. We're all just navigating those alleys, trying to reach that central town square where we finally stop to ask, "What is Life?" and maybe, just maybe, stumble upon the beautiful simplicity of an answer that took such a complicated path to find... 🙂

( And you, being all relaxed, smiling, and perpetually ready... 🙂 makes my fingers fumble over the keyboard. 🙂 🙂 )
The Problem with Definitions in Philosophy ·
Can we actually compare the relationship between a definition and a concept—specifically, defining a concept—to mapping out territory? I’m thinking more along the lines of evaluating whether a specific map accurately represents a given piece of land. A concept refers to an object or idea (though there are plenty of diverse theories regarding language and concepts), but I’m asking about the definition of that concept, not the thing itself. Besides, once you factor in descriptive versus evaluative terms, this whole map-and-territory analogy starts to fall apart. Not to mention that definitions come in all sorts of varieties.
Here’s my take. For descriptive concepts, like those involving biological species, let’s look at Kirkland: Water = H2O. For evaluative ones, the problem gets much messier, but also way more interesting. What actually constitutes "moral" or "good"? Which specific action can truly be labeled as good? If we don't establish a definition, everyone just uses these terms however they please, which leads to a total mess where the exact same act could be called both moral and immoral...

You see these kinds of tests everywhere—on TikTok, in various mobile games, and all that other junk.
If they can pull it off, why isn't FOX doing more of this stuff?
The Problem with Definitions in Philosophy ·
Alright, I’ve got a question about something that doesn't seem to be getting much attention in this thread.
Do you guys think it's actually possible to define terms? Like, can we define everything, or just certain things? Which ones? And more importantly, is even doing this necessary—and if so, why? For instance, should we bother defining what "good" actually means? Should we be aiming for a real-world definition or just a linguistic one?
I'm specifically talking about the debate that's been raging since the 50s: the clash between essentialism (running from the old-school Aristotle approach of genus proximum and differentia specifica, all the way to Kirkland and his family resemblance theory) and anti-essentialism (on one side, Mr. Wittgenstein's idea of family resemblances, and on the other, all that postmodernist rambling about how everything is just text). I'm curious to hear what you all think.

I disagree—you can overindulge in just about anything, including the simple stuff. Even the healthy habits become bad if you take them way too far. 😈

redwalker63 said:But honestly, it breaks my heart when Life (I have to say this word every third sentence to stay "on brand" and keep the local vibes alive) turns people with pure hearts into cold, unfeeling creatures or even vengeful souls.
This might be off-topic, but it’s deeply connected to our everyday reality.
Maybe what I see daily—and I love observing people and how they interact—isn't actually injustice. It’s hard to put into words, but you can feel it in your gut.
Specifically, I constantly witness situations where callous "souls" hurt those who are small, gentle, and pure. There might be Divine Providence or Karma, as some call it, but I sometimes feel like our very thoughts help manifest that Justice.

Hang on, I’m rambling a bit; I feel like I’m just blathering because I can’t quite find the right words for this feeling.

So, starting from the top,
I’m really glad there’s a good crew here; that’s why I sometimes "reincarnate" myself back onto this forum. I’m not attached, but I feel a certain warmth in my heart even when we disagree on a topic or hold different perspectives.
Some people are just purely driven by their hearts, while others act like they're operating on some high-level intellectual frequency. If they could just meet in the middle, maybe those second group—who I don't mean to offend—could learn something. Perhaps over time, they could shed their combativeness, arrogance, and rudeness to lead a better Life (there I go again) for themselves and the lives of those around them.

I believe that Life (once more!) exists for this purpose, and this Forum is a part of Him (again!) for that very reason.

Divine Providence exists, and it manifests within the spirit. 🙂 You can't bribe it or cut a deal with it; there are no easy ways out because the spirit is impartial. Everything follows the eternal law: what you do, you do to yourself. If you hurt someone, you hurt yourself; if you lie, you lie to yourself; if you deceive someone, you've deceived yourself; if you seek revenge, you're doing the same to yourself... I judge it this way, 🙂 because if I do something wrong, I am hit with that bad feeling instantly, and vice versa. I also believe we react to the injustice we witness and feel; that injustice affects us just as much as it affects the Justice itself, which never leaves us indifferent if there is a reason for it to touch us.

Regarding Life, I came across some beautiful lines (I was looking for a quote to replicate for you in a thread about plants... 🙂), and I think it deserves to be shared here too. I stumbled upon the concept of: Open Existence.

"Schuler, who surely pondered this deeply but unfortunately left us with so little written, says: a plant is a symbol of Open Existence.
Open Existence? What is that? It is an existence that stretches beyond the visible boundaries of life. Primarily, it extends to existence before and after life—to what comes before birth and after death. It is a state where the boundary of life is not a limit; it is open forward, backward, upward, and downward. This is, of course, intended only for those who understand that death is not destruction." (from the book Jasmine and Olive, George Santayana)

This immediately reminded me of the impression I described in my first post here, regarding the obituary of a tree. Maybe that connection—tree, obituary, fading away—gave me a momentary glimpse into Open Existence; an existence that transcends the limits of life as we perceive it through the experience of losing others.
