How to merge partitions
in Software ·
Is there a reliable way to merge two partitions without risking my data? I’m feeling pretty paranoid about losing everything on my computer, and using a standard partition manager feels a bit sketchy to me.

Honestly, this beats listening to Nirvana any day... 😬
So, when does this cowboy lounge actually open?
Film Commission in America
in Movies ·
Thanks for the help!👍
I checked out the Sundance Cinelink lineup, but that’s not quite what I’m looking for. That’s more for films seeking major international production backing, and there isn't even a requirement about filming in the local area. Still, I appreciate the lead.
So, I haven't really cracked this yet, so I'll keep asking—maybe someone else has the answer.
Does the local Tourism Board (not on their own, obviously) handle stuff like this? Since:
"The primary responsibilities of Allstate include:
-developing programs and strategic plans to promote American tourism products
-organizing, executing, and overseeing all promotional activities for the Republic of America's tourism offerings"
(Or did I totally miss the mark by posting here instead of the tourism forum?)

Film Commission in America

Hey everyone!
I’m new to the group, but I’ve been lurking for a bit. Since there are so many pros in here, I was hoping to pick someone's brain on something if possible.
--> Is there a specific type of organization out there—maybe at the state or regional level in the US—that functions like a Film Commission? I'm thinking of a non-profit run by industry professionals, funded by the government or local authorities, whose whole job is to attract productions (movies, TV series, commercials, music videos, etc.) to their area. Ideally, they'd help with everything from navigating paperwork and securing funding to making the right connections, all to help promote the region.
If a dedicated Film Commission doesn't exist in a certain area,
who usually handles that stuff in the States?
Is there anyone actually doing that kind of work here?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Do you respect other people's music taste?

I’ve been trying to tell anchio that for ages, but he just won't listen. 😁 😉

Yeah, you definitely are. 😛
Is that why you don't even bother talking to me anymore? 😬 😉

Best OCR software?

ABBYY FineReader 8 is hands down the best OCR software out there, and it even handles American English perfectly.

I'm not being contradictory; salt is essential because without it, the soup is just tasteless water.🙂
But honestly? If someone dropped a piece of roast beef into my soup without warning... I wouldn't touch it.
Hard-Hitting Blockbusters

A "guy movie" is basically just a flick that women can't stand because it's nothing but macho posturing and zero actual substance.

clarice said:Even if you logically know it's just your subconscious acting up, your brain still tells you that brush is for the toilet. It’s totally natural to feel a wave of disgust when you start associating it with food.
Exactly. Everything we encounter triggers some sort of memory or learned association. That mental image can be wildly different from one person to the next because of how we link things together. So, it makes perfect sense that someone would refuse to eat something that reminds them of a bathroom—especially if they have other options on the table.

I feel like this whole experiment is really just proving how much our subconscious can override our logic. Even when you know deep down it’s just a concept, if someone tells you a brush is meant for the toilet, your brain immediately makes that gross connection to food, and suddenly, you're repulsed. To me, that kind of visceral reaction feels completely natural.
Besides, I’m pretty picky about what goes into my meals—I don't like unnecessary additives, so I’d probably turn up my nose at the soup too!

goldenhound32 said:For me, that kind of "effort" isn't even an effort.
Take those people you see out on the sidewalk singing—you know, like the Hare Krishna folks? Your first reaction (and maybe it’s just me, or depends on what neighborhood you're in) might be to roll your eyes or smirk. But a second later, once you actually think about it, it's totally fine.
😕 It isn't for me. Honestly, I love seeing those people out there; it actually makes my day.
I’m not quite sure how your example ties back to that food experiment you mentioned. To me, prejudice and pure physical revulsion feel like two completely different things. Judging someone's character is one thing, but the reaction you described in your first post regarding that experiment? That's a whole other ballgame.
Overclocking (Main Thread)
in Desktops ·
So, I’ve got this old Pentium III 450MHz (I know, I know👎). I just pushed the overclock up to 600MHz, but now I'm running into a wall. Every time I try to encode an MP3, the encoder crashes instantly—it doesn't matter if I'm using Nero, AudioGrabber, EAC, or CDEX. It always gives me an "encoder error" or just straight-up crashes macOS (the system doesn't reboot, it just crashes back to the desktop). Why is this happening? I'm thinking about bumping it up to 675MHz by moving the FSB from 133 to 150, but whenever I try to push past 133 (like hitting 140), everything falls apart. I either get a Blue Screen or the whole thing dies right after booting. Anyone have a solution?😕

goldenhound32 said:Do you think that’s unreasonable? This whole "only under certain conditions" thing...
Honestly, I don't think it's unreasonable at all. It would only be crazy if they handed me a bowl of soup with a paintbrush in it while I was starving—I'd probably eat the damn brush at that point.
But when I actually have a choice? I'm going to pass on anything that requires me to fight through pure sensory disgust just to get through it...
What's your take on it? 🙂

goldenhound32 said:A woman takes a toilet brush—fresh out of its factory packaging, mind you—and dips it right into a pot of soup.
The person being tested refuses to eat the soup.
Does anyone else feel like "dipping" shouldn't be a dealbreaker? Isn't it a pretty reasonable way to look at it (since you're still eating)?
Based on that study, I’d definitely be in the majority who wouldn't touch that soup. That "reasonable" perspective would only kick in if hunger finally outweighed the sheer disgust of eating something that was contaminated by a toilet brush (even a brand-new nylon one), especially when food is supposed to be more than just fuel—it's an experience. Plus, there's always that nagging thought: how do we know some chef didn't pull a similar prank behind the kitchen doors before serving us our meal? We'd eat it up without a second thought, but we'd never know. 🙂
