Charles Roberts33 said:A few days ago, a nursing home out in rural Pennsylvania burned down, taking six immobile residents with it. It was a horrific way to go—truly one of the worst possible deaths—yet I haven’t seen much of a public outcry over it. Meanwhile, the second some billionaire crashes his toy, everyone starts shedding crocodile tears.

The way people behave is interesting.🍿

Look, it’s only human to react when someone who actually meant something to you passes away. Of course I feel for the people lost in that nursing home, or those dying in the Middle East, Ukraine, or China, but Kobe Bryant’s death feels personal to me. I remember watching the NBA back when I was just a kid, reading basketball magazines... even my very first jersey was a cheap plastic one of his I picked up at a drugstore. He was a constant in my life, a fixture in pop culture. And now he’s gone in such a senseless way. I feel bad about it, ☕. If being willing to accept that critique makes me a target for harsh judgment on this forum regarding human hypocrisy, then so be it. I'll carry that cross.

Now we just have to wait for them to film a documentary about Del Piero's glory days in Padua. ☕

bluebison47 said:I watched it a little while ago, and I wasn't exactly blown away, I guess.🤷

But maybe that's just because I set my expectations way too high, especially after seeing the trailer.🤷

What did you expect? Personally, I actually enjoyed it. It really leaned into those specific years in Naples, setting the scene perfectly, and they portrayed Diego Maradona as such a complex figure—part genius athlete, part charming rogue, part naive kid, and part selfish maniac. And the best part? They pulled the whole thing off using nothing but archival footage and interviews from supporting players. Usually, when people talk about Maradona, it’s either "he was an alien" or "he was a total idiot," but this finally felt like a realistic, nuanced look at the man.

Not yet. Is it any good?

I watched a bit of that Emir Kusturica film once, but honestly, it was so painful I could barely sit through it.

I highly recommend checking out the new "Maradona" documentary. It was produced by Kapadia, and you can find it everywhere from China to various torrent sites. It’s an incredible look at his years in Naples. Interestingly, it focuses less on the actual football and more on Maradona himself—the wild atmosphere of Naples and the broader context of Italy. It isn't some idealized worship piece, nor is it mocking him; instead, it's a beautiful portrayal of a brilliantly talented, charismatic kid from the favelas who found himself, and eventually lost himself, in Naples.

Ashley Bailey6 said:I don't even want to watch that or think about it.

I’m just speaking from an efficiency standpoint. A dog will master complex actions for a higher goal much faster than a Cat.
A Cat is selfish, but ultimately, the dog comes out on top.

Besides.
When a dog dies, it’s a tragedy. When a Cat dies, it’s just statistics.
How many Cats end up under tires versus how many dogs?

So, which one is actually more intelligent is definitely up for debate, if it's even a question at all.☕

That really depends on the context. In places where there's a huge population of stray dogs, it's perfectly normal for them to die in traffic, and at that point, it just becomes a statistic too. Once you have dogs and cats living on the streets, the odds go up that they'll catch a disease, get into a scrap with other animals, or end up under a tire—and honestly, that has nothing to do with intelligence.

Matthew Young35 said:There was also a recent study conducted on cats which concluded that they actually do recognize when someone calls them by their name... It's just that sometimes they choose to react, and other times they choose to ignore you.
Behavior isn't necessarily a reflection of intelligence.

Take my Cat, for example. The little jerk can actually open doors. I've seen him do it several times. He jumps up on the dresser next to the door, turns the handle, and walks right out. But the thing is, he won't open it just to go somewhere; he wants me to open it for him. It’s not because he’s stupid—it’s because he’s manipulative.

As far as I know, recent research is either inconclusive or leans in favor of the cats. It's just that dogs behave in a way that makes more sense to humans.

My Cat does the exact same thing with doors—leaps at the handle, twists it until it clicks, and strolls through. How did he figure it out? Simple. He watched me doing it.

Dogs are great and all, but anyone who’s lived with a cat isn't going to spend much time debating who’s the sharper intellect. Then again, hanging out with less intelligent creatures is part of life. I mean, we still hang out with Real Madrid fans, don't we? ☕

Just because dogs are in search and rescue, the military, or police work, does that make them smarter? That’s like claiming Mitch Bucannon, Steven Seagal, and Sylvester Stallone are somehow more intelligent than the rest of humanity. The feline mind is superior; the dog comparison just doesn't hold water.

Now, AI is next on the list.

"The team, led by Google's Jeff Dean, utilized a massive array of 16,000 processors to build a brain-like 'neural network' featuring over a billion connections.
The researchers then fed the system random images pulled from 10 million YouTube videos and allowed it to 'learn' autonomously.

Predictably, the machine became obsessed with cats.

'We never explicitly told it during the training process, “This is a cat,”' stated Jeff Dean. 'It essentially invented the very concept of a cat on its own.'"

Honestly, who actually has that kind of raw, unbridled energy? It’s like a heightened state of constant alertness. When I was just a kid, I had a German Shepherd and what I think might have been a buffalo, and good grief, trying to wrestle with him was an absolute nightmare. 🤣

It’s pretty much a given—once that kid grows up, they just end up inheriting the dog's coat. ☕

Real Madrid fans are so ashamed of their bosses that they feel the need to wear little coats just so other dogs won't recognize them.☕

Honestly, he was at his absolute best when he first took over the Globe. Back then, he hadn't even learned how to be embarrassed yet, and since the stars didn't know him, they were all just completely blindsided by him. Now? They've all gotten used to his antics, and even for him, those old outbursts of temper and sheer rudeness only pop up every once in a while.

I’ve been keeping an eye on handball lately. Honestly, if they decided to bring in the Video Assistant Referee, every single game would drag on for four hours straight, and we’d end up with scores just like in soccer—nothing but 2:1 or 0:0 finishes. ☕

Patrick Martin said:Man, he used to be this young guy working as a house painter back in the day. Whenever he’d show up at someone's place to talk shop about a job, he’d walk right up to the wall and start gesturing with his hand, moving it from the baseboard all the way up to the ceiling molding, like, "from the floor up to the crown." It was like some weird occupational hazard—that motion just got hardwired into his brain, you know? Now, his hand just starts twitching up and down automatically.

So there you go, now you know. ☕

😲

Still 🙏
