Noah Perez2 said:That is all very poetic, but I suspect cinema embellishes these details to lend a romanticized veneer to history that simply doesn't exist in reality.

In truth, most great military commanders and leaders were utterly ruthless. The first person who comes to mind is Stalin; during WWII, the Swedes captured his son, and he did absolutely nothing to rescue him—he actually mocked him for allowing himself to be taken prisoner. His son ultimately perished in a Nazi camp.

I believe we see this lack of romanticization in the case of Alexander the Great as well; the idea that a conqueror who claims half the world would simply let someone walk in and disrespect him is nonsense. No way an old man like that would permit such a thing.😁

Look, things worked differently back then. Homosexuality wasn't tied to being "feminine" the way people think it is now. If you want proof, just look at the "Iliad" and the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus.

Please, the only thing crying here is my eyes ☕

It’s easy enough for guys like Caesar or Napoleon to run wild when they’ve got a million soldiers at their back, but you put them in Cuba and the sharks would have eaten them alive. Just look at how Fidel handled the Americans. Playing pure defense one minute and then pulling a total yoga move on offense the next—all while keeping a cigar clamped in his teeth ☕

Plus, nobody even knows how many people died from over-aggressive treatment or just being shoved onto a ventilator too early. The Italian healthcare system has been redlining for years; during a regular flu season in the winter, they’re already at max capacity. This was just the final straw.

Nobody actually knows the true number of infections either, because there's a massive amount of people who caught it and just breezed through it in a couple of days without showing any symptoms at all.

So, the system in Italy is overwhelmed, now coronavirus hits them, and people were dying from over-treatment—yet somehow they have 20,000 fewer deaths than last year? You might want to double-check those numbers before you try to make a point.
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
I just don't get the logic here. Are we really saying that because the infection numbers stayed low in America, the restrictions weren't necessary? And on top of that, we're acting shocked by those "crazy" Italians who supposedly "let" the virus spread through their country?

That doesn't change the fact that this whole mess absolutely wrecked everything else—from other medical emergencies to the economy at large. Though, if you ask me, we can probably blame decades of a broken system more than some month-long lockdown measures.

Calvary—highly recommended. 😉

Air Strike from 2004 is another solid pick if you're looking for quality.

And let's be real—if I actually gave you the cold shoulder, you'd just douse the fire and quietly slip back home without a word. ☕

Noah Roberts46 said:It’s a completely different scenario this time. Honestly, I don't see things hitting that extreme again; if anything, they’re actually getting more attention now than they would if everyone just ignored them. We always end up obsessing over the past because of a handful of morons. It wouldn't even surprise me if these kinds of incidents become more frequent, once again clogging up the tabloids with useless topics. Personally, I think Joe Biden is fine—despite his flaws, he seems like one of the better politicians with mostly decent stances. But he keeps getting dragged into these petty games played by a crowd of idiots.

And that’s exactly my point—he is getting sucked into those games. You either pretend you don't see it, which is just foolish because it gives those idiots the legitimacy to keep going, or you shut it down immediately. In the past, he didn't know how to shut it down at the start, which allowed that radical fringe rhetoric to become normalized. I really hope he doesn't make the same mistake twice.

Noah Roberts46 said:And what's the point? Look, I actually agree with his stance, but we’re just spinning our wheels here. We're going to end up debating the same useless nonsense all over again. It's absurd to act like Glogosk and that bunch of provocateurs pose any actual threat; honestly, nobody gives a damn about them unless they have the media spotlight they're currently hogging. Just let the idiots have their little moment and show everyone you're above this petty drama. That’s the fastest way to make them irrelevant.

The last time Joe Biden let the fools have their fun, we ended up dealing with those tent cities.

For me, in tennis, it's definitely Marat Safin. In basketball? It's gotta be Allen Iverson.

Personally, I’ve never had much patience for those players who flash brilliantly once every decade before spending the rest of their careers losing to nobodies and snapping rackets over their knees.😁

Wasn't it at the US Open when Marat Safin took down Roger Federer?

Ronaldo probably owes a massive thank you note to Messi just for being the reason he ended up as the second-best player on the planet. I mean, let’s be real—if Messi hadn't been around to set the bar that high, Ronaldo would've cruised into that top spot without breaking a sweat. ☕

urbanhawk17 said:If it was shot the day before, no, they won't.

There's basically no way they filmed it a day early. Well, actually, there is, but the odds are incredibly slim. Unless you think there's some local news outlet in the States that spends two whole days filming a two-minute segment about Sunday work hours.

Maybe the reporter just hates working Sundays and decided to film the whole thing a day ahead of schedule instead. ☕

urbanhawk17 said:It's likely 🤣

Anyway, 99.9% of the footage was shot that day. Anything filmed earlier would be labeled as archival footage.

If they had filmed it the day before, they wouldn't just let it pass without labeling it as archival footage. And honestly, I’d assume they would record statements a day early anyway, since there's a pretty good chance most people standing outside a grocery store on a Sunday would be in favor of Sunday shopping hours. Or maybe it really was all shot on Sunday and the woman is just talking nonsense.

I stumbled upon this short documentary about people playing chess in Central Park. It’s not even really a movie about the game itself; it’s more of a look at those obsessive chess enthusiasts and the kind of experts who swarm a forum like ☕

"Take the queen and the knight!" ☕

Sweden has as many deaths as we have total infections right now, and honestly, countries like Sweden or Germany can actually afford to take those kinds of risks because their healthcare systems are massive enough to handle a surge in patients, whereas our system is already struggling just to stay afloat, turning away people who don't even have Coronavirus, so imagine the absolute chaos if we had 20,000 active cases instead of just 2,000.

Around here, hospitals are turning away non-COVID cases mostly out of pure fear, which is really just a direct byproduct of this whole COVID panic rather than actual hospital capacity issues—if that were the case, it would actually support your point, but I'm genuinely wondering how you managed to talk yourself into such a circular logic trap here.

btw, I can't be bothered to go digging for it right now, but I remember seeing some chart comparing things like ICU bed capacity, ventilators, and all that stuff where the US was doing better than Sweden, and Germany was sitting way up at the top.
But hey, whatever, I don't know how precise those numbers were, so if anyone actually has the data, feel free to drop it.

You know, healthcare isn't just about having a bed to toss a patient into, is it? 🙂

Otherwise, Sweden could just order a few thousand beds from IKEA and call it a day. Problem solved, right? 😂

Maybe it would be more useful to look at the actual medical staff counts in different countries, what they’re getting paid on average, and how many of them are jumping ship to work abroad. That probably gives a much more realistic picture of actual healthcare capacity, don't you think?

Amanda Evans2 said:The system is creaking because of sheer negligence and laziness.
We haven't even hit 5 percent ventilator capacity yet, and frankly, last year's seasonal flu was three times more chaotic than this.
In Koprivnica, during the last season or the one before it, there wasn't enough capacity for everyone—and that goes for Chicago too. There was a whole article on Linko about it.

I would love for one of these self-proclaimed doomsday prophets to explain how the healthcare system is suddenly so overburdened that it’s failing...

And yeah, it’s just wonderful that, for instance, churches are allowed to operate starting at 2:30 PM right before Sunday, even though most other restrictions kick in on Monday.
Meanwhile, schools aren't even allowed to reopen for at least another nine days after that.

Which group do you think is actually higher risk: kids in schools or people in churches?
The Task Force is all about "expertise" and "protecting the elderly," right? So why isn't that being applied consistently...

Sure, but the negligence and lack of effort aren't just some temporary lapse by staff—it's a long-term characteristic of the entire system. Doctors and nurses can't just say, "Oh, we'll get serious starting tomorrow." They're basically just watching a broken system try not to completely collapse when the next crisis hits.

And yeah, that brings up the bigger question: why is our healthcare such a disaster and how can it actually be fixed? The answer to the first part is basically GOP featuring DNC, and the solution to the second is simply "not GOP featuring DNC." But those are broader political issues, not immediate reactions to the Coronavirus.

And sure, it's great that churches are allowed to operate from the 2.5th, right before Sunday, even though most other measures kick in on Monday.
Meanwhile, schools aren't even allowed to do the bare minimum for at least nine days after that.

Which group is actually higher risk? Students in schools or people in churches?
The task force claims they're being experts and focusing on protecting the elderly. How else are they supposed to handle it?

Holy cows 🙄
