PS. Pretty sure there's already a thread about it 🙂

It won't.
Remembering Claude Chabrol (1930-2010) in Movies ·
To me, Serz wasn't even all that special, though I will admit *La Cérémonie* and *The Biches* are quite good.

His absolute favorite has to be *Le Bucheur*. It’s about this unassuming butcher who also happens to be a killer.

One really should mention *Une Affaire de Femmes*, that story about a woman. It’s easily his most depressing film—and honestly, perhaps the most depressing American film I've ever seen.

I'm in the same boat; things are running late for me too. One package coming all the way from China hasn't even shown up yet.🤷

The second installment isn't half bad, though the main villain looks an awful lot like Kano from Mortal Kombat:

Karen Cook51 said:The effects are actually great!! Kudos to 👍

I’m not quite sure what you mean by "great"... are they funny, or are you saying the technical quality is actually high?

I watched the Scary Movie segment and found myself laughing... though I did feel a bit of pity when the character started weeping and trying to give advice to the kids. It really makes you wonder about the character's depth—even in the middle of a brutal war zone, he still manages to think about children.😍

It’s been two weeks now... have the prizes actually arrived yet?
Christian Taylor3 said:Those few socially conscious Americans will likely flock to that remake.

But don't the more enlightened Americans typically prefer European cinema?
Anthony Smith3 said:That’s exactly why a remake would actually serve it well—given how small-scale the original production was.😉

No, this will do more for that director's reputation than it will for the film itself.
Do you honestly believe the majority of people will bother with the original after they’ve seen the remake? I highly doubt it.

It would be quite interesting if everyone who hasn't heard of the movie, or simply hasn't sat down to watch it yet, would actually bother to weigh in here.👍 Just purely for the sake of the statistics...🙂

I suppose I have to agree... heh... If my memory serves me correctly, the name has surfaced on this forum about ten different times now. Of course, those who only ever bother with the latest summer blockbusters wouldn't have heard a word about him, but I suppose that’s to be expected.
Anthony Smith3 said:To be perfectly honest... I hadn't even heard of the original until recently. I suspect a vast majority of people wouldn't recognize it either. Which leads me to wonder... why not just do a remake? It would be a simple way to bring both the soul of the original and its story to a much wider audience.🤷

Have you even bothered to watch Tzameti?

The reality is that this is a small film, and frankly, that’s exactly how it ought to be. It isn't as if the US or the rest of the world is gasping for air because this story hasn't been told yet; the narrative doesn't claim to be anything more profound than it actually is. There is nothing revolutionary happening here. It simply looks beautiful and carries a heavy, palpable atmosphere, which—in my estimation—is precisely what makes it a good piece of cinema.

I’m not particularly fond of the idea of a remake. My assumption is that it won't offer anything fresh or meaningful to the table. If anyone else's impressions happen to prove me wrong, perhaps I'll give it a look. Otherwise, I think I'll pass.

It’s a bit of a double-edged sword, isn't it? On one hand, I suppose there's some satisfaction in seeing a truly talented individual finally get handed a much larger budget to work with. It's a rare thing to see genuine skill met with that kind of financial backing. On the other hand, it’s frankly a shame that all that capital is being funneled into nothing more than a remake. A waste of potential, really.
Yet another redundant remake 🥱

Anthony Smith3 said:Either I misspoke or I was messing with you—honestly, it's probably the latter, since I clearly stated in the intro that this sweepstakes !!!! is being run to celebrate the release of The Expendables in theaters, so it's strictly focused on action movies and action heroes. Did you actually bother reading the opening post before jumping in?

I'm sorry the questions, topic, and prizes weren't your cup of tea, but I laid everything out in the intro just like I said. If you wanted in, you could have played... if not, whatever. No big deal.

But here... I genuinely hope there will be more sweepstakes !!!! like this in the future... at the end of the day... foreign films aren't exactly expensive to bring over, so the prizes are doable... so I'm hoping something more your style comes along eventually.👍

A perfect 5 out of 5. Cheers to you. 🙂

There's actually even a great local song out there where some of the Expendables crew appears, and it even mentions a few members who didn't make the cut:

Anthony Smith3 said:LOL... when did I ever say that??

I definitely didn't say that... you just jumped to the wrong conclusion. I was talking about promoting the movie Expendables... and the forum itself as a whole...

You mentioned that you were doing this as a way to promote the film. When I asked if by "film" you meant the subforum or the seventh art itself, you simply replied, "both." ☕

My primary intention was to focus on promoting the Expendables film... and the subforum itself, as such.

Fine, if that's how you want to play it. I'm just repeating what you said.

Mark Wood79 said:Just host a sweepstakes where the prizes are three Bergman films, and we'll all show up—don't even worry about it. 😉

You’re talking about how it’s a shame if there’s another sweepstakes like this one, yet I see you participated even though the prize doesn't interest you... that's like someone telling me, "If you can chug a whole case of beer in an hour, you get to go out with Dorica Nikolić." Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm not interested in the Expendables or whatever movies are being given away. I didn't enter, but I will say, hats off to Anthony Smith3. You're a total legend!

By "shame," I mean what Anthony Smith3 mentioned—that he views this sweepstakes as a way to promote the art of cinema itself. It would be a pity if it remained strictly limited to the action genre.

I jumped in because I let the excitement get the better of me... then reality set in. It occurred to me that I don't actually need these movies; I don't own a Blu-ray player, nor do I plan to, and when it comes to the action genre, I'm about as lost as a golfer on a basketball court.

Mark Wood79 said:Are you seriously suggesting Bergman and Woody Allen are some kind of ''underground'' directors? 🤣

No.

But honestly, how many people do you actually know who sit down to watch Bergman? I mean, people who consistently dive into his filmography.

rustyscout34 said:Well, nobody's stopping you from running your own sweepstakes !!!! featuring, I don't know, Bergman's / Woody Allen's films or whatever (and I guess Dragon would actually want to compete 🙂). 😉

lol... if there were actually a thread dedicated to their films, who would even bother participating? 🙂

rustyscout34 said:congrats to the winners image (especially feralorca82 🙏), and Dragon kudos again on the idea! 🙏

as for the tasks, definitely everything through PM next time, and I guess I'll have to brush up on some action classics I watched a long, long time ago before then... 🙂

Well, will the next sweepstakes be centered around action movies too?
If that's the case, it's a bit of a shame.

In what way can friends end up being labeled as 'scratched'? What does that even mean in this context? 🤷

On another note, I watched the movie; it was decent enough, though the concept was definitely stronger than the actual execution.

A solid 6 out of 10.
