Malaria risks and prevention in Health ·
Ugh, that sounds absolutely brutal 🙄

Unfortunately, it can really drag on for a while—you might deal with some general weakness or those weird, migrating aches and pains.

Just make sure you're eating well, staying hydrated, getting plenty of rest, and keeping a close eye on how you're feeling. Definitely stick to whatever instructions the doctors at the infectious disease clinic gave you.

And hey, try not to be too hard on your doctor; malaria is a pretty rare beast here in the States.
COVID-19 Updates and Discussion in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I honestly have to step in here—the moderator of the moderator pdf politics really needs a firm talking-to for suggesting that the current Corona virus is anything like the seasonal flu.
In terms of almost every major metric, comparing Corona to the flu is just absolute bullshit (I can't even say the actual word here without getting myself banned).

That said, I think we should show some respect to any virus, especially one this new.

It’s been proven that Corona can be lethal, mostly hitting older folks, people with chronic conditions, or those who are malnourished and exhausted—kind of like how medical staff in certain parts of China were pushed to the brink, barely eating or sleeping for days on end.
Plus, its ability to spread is off the charts.

It’s also absolutely devastating for little warm-blooded, furry creatures—think of them as the tiny assets tucked away in things like 401(k)s, or stocks in major corporations, not just here in the States but globally. Honestly, that's what worries me most, especially after seeing how big companies can get fleeced during a crisis. You’ll soon be able to track all the data, see who took a hit and who actually turned a profit.

If you want a really clear, eye-opening breakdown of what's actually happening with Corona, go dig through the corners of the internet—check out the Nu2 segment with Aleksandar Stanković from March 1st, 2020, featuring guest Prof. Dr. Igor Rudan.
He calls for caution, but without the senseless panic or acting like an idiot.
He basically deconstructs all the myths and fears.
He makes it incredibly easy to understand, even for someone totally out of the loop (it's a truly impressive presentation, much like the scale of the Rose Bowl 😁).

For the time being, the whole Corona conversation feels more like a political issue than a health one, and if you ask me, it's heavily tied to economics too.

Everyone seems obsessed with tracking the number of infections, recoveries, and hospitalizations, but let's be real: everyone is actually looking for the death toll.

To keep things interesting, maybe keep an eye on stock market fluctuations—who's buying, who's dumping, who's going bust, and who's making a killing while macroeconomists are busy predicting the next big recession.

I'll admit, I'm a little—well, maybe not *that* much—worried about the flu or those nasty viruses that push a fever past 100.4°F.

As for Corona? Not one bit, as long as I've got food on the table, enough to drink, at least six hours of sleep, and a steady supply of Lupocet, Aspirin, Advil, nasal spray, maybe a splash of good bourbon, and some honey or propolis...

But honestly, the thing I fear most is the virus of human stupidity ( human stupidity )🙄

Bottom line—this is the Message/Complaint/Comment board.
You complained.
You commented.
Message received; we'll give that naughty moderator a reprimand, just like I mentioned earlier. 🙂
The moderators of the moderator pdf politics will open a dedicated thread about Corona once they decide the timing is right.

You won't be venting about Corona and stuff here.

Walk me through the timeline of what you were feeling—what hit you first?

Whereabouts did you travel, or rather, where do you think you picked up the bug?

What kind of tests actually confirmed it was malaria?

And what meds did they put you on?
Ads are driving me crazy in Feedback & Suggestions ·

Now that we’ve finally cleared up how those ads pop up—whether they're hitting you randomly or following some weird pattern—we can basically take this whole debate and shove it straight into the trash. Honestly, I'm over it.

Outside of this thread, you guys should just use whatever logic works best for you, as long as everyone involved stays happy and things run smoothly.

Body Halleck: Getting chased by the master moderator in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m not going to try to lecture anyone on the technical side of things here, since I’m definitely not an expert in that field.

But look, back in that last thread, the mod actually gave you a seriously impressive amount of freedom within "their" specific sub-forum—honestly, that’s more autonomy than most mods ever bother to grant.

In this particular post of yours, the guidelines laid out are actually pretty thorough and fair.

Think of it this way: if everyone else is sitting in a restaurant ordering from a fixed menu or picking something off the à la carte list, but you decide the table setting or how the food is served just isn't quite hitting the mark for you, you’re being given your own private booth. You even get your own little kitchenette where you can whip up whatever you want, using your own recipes and spices, and if anyone else wants a taste of your cooking, they’re more than welcome to join you.

That kind of level of liberty and democratic spirit is something you rarely see around here, whether we're talking about these types of online forums or even in broader American society.

So, honestly, I don't see anything wrong with how the mod handled things with you, considering everything I just mentioned.

Best Glucosamine sulfate supplements? in Health ·
rustymason82 said:I've been taking it for about a month and a half, though I read online that it takes at least three months to see any real results.
I plan on sticking with it for at least another three months; it isn't a huge expense, and since I don't drink or smoke, I can certainly afford to invest in some glucosamine. 😁
My right knee hurts while I'm driving—it feels like that specific position really irritates it, and then the pain can get quite intense. Otherwise, it's not too bad; I just feel it occasionally, nothing major. As for my left knee, there's no real issue yet, maybe just a bit of discomfort after exertion, but my arms usually start aching more than that, so it's negligible.

I won't be answering that rather intrusive question. 🙄 However, yes, I am carrying some extra weight that I'm struggling to lose, and I'm fully aware of how much pressure that puts on my knees.

I'm using the glucosamine from Nature's Path; their recommended daily dose of two capsules provides 700 mg of Glucosamine sulfate and 48 mg of Vitamin C.

From what you're describing, it sounds like you've got a "posture" issue on your hands.
You're holding your right leg in a way that just doesn't work for it, so it's basically protesting.
As a first step, try adjusting how you sit while you're driving.
You've gotta learn how to "fine-tune" yourself. 😬

Step number two for your knees (though I can't be sure if your hips, ankles, or feet aren't feeling it too—and I won't even get started on your spine).
People who spend a lot of time on their feet generally end up putting way more weight on one leg without realizing it (you unconsciously shift your weight back and forth, or pop one hip out when standing, etc.).
Try to stay "mindful" of your feet and make sure you're distributing your weight evenly on both sides when you're standing.
You won't nail it immediately, but whenever it crosses your mind, just focus on finding that balance—do it a hundred times a day, a hundred times a day.
Just stay consistent.
You might actually start feeling a difference in as little as ten days (maybe sooner, maybe later, it's hard to say).
There are plenty of other things you can practice at your workstation, and a good doctor (or a physical therapist) could give you some solid, practical advice once they've done a full check-up on you and ideally looked at your workspace too.

If you're already doing all this, just keep at it.

Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you, life's just been a little hectic lately. 🕺
Explanation for Master Moderator regarding my post in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Honestly, the mods have shown some seriously impressive levels of patience and good vibes here, staying way more chill than I expected.

They laid out some pretty crystal-clear ground rules on how we’re all supposed to behave if we want to keep hanging out on this forum.

So, did that glucosamine actually do anything for you?

Which specific version were you taking?

And okay, here comes the rude and totally uncalled-for question: how much do you weigh, and how far off are we from what your doctor says should be your ideal weight? 😒

It’s finally the weekend, so I figure everyone could use a little breather.

Please permaban me in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Maybe just give it another week or two to breathe and really sit with it, you know? We’re still kind of riding that post-holiday wave where everyone’s head is a little fuzzy and decisions aren't always as logical as they should be.

If you end up sticking with your current take, just hit me up in about a week with your final word on it. 👍
I was just sitting here thinking about that whole Parsifal situation, and man, it really gets you reflecting on how much we all try to find some kind of higher purpose when life feels like a total grind. It’s funny, isn't it? We spend so much time chasing these massive, cinematic ideals—you know, that pure, untouched quest for truth—but then reality hits us like a freight train, and we're just left trying to figure out how to pay the rent or deal with a broken radiator in Chicago. I remember this one time back in my college days, I was convinced I had found the ultimate path to enlightenment through some obscure philosophy book, only to realize I was basically just staring at a wall for three hours because I forgot to eat lunch. There's something deeply human about that gap between our grandest ambitions and the messy, uncoordinated way we actually live our lives. We want the epic journey, but we usually end up with a long line at a Starbucks. kaže:

So, I was just looking into this, and honestly, they’ve gone and slapped these totally bizarre conditions on the former moderators. It’s just wild how they're handling things now. 🤔 So, if we're talking about when exactly partial derivatives just... vanish into thin air, it really comes down to how the function behaves when you start messing with one variable at a time. Basically, you're looking for that sweet spot where the rate of change doesn't care about the other variables anymore because the function has flattened out in that specific direction. It’s like being on a hiking trail in the Rockies—if you move a step to the left or right and the elevation stays exactly the same, your partial derivative for that movement is zero. You hit those critical points where all those individual slopes hit zero, and that's usually the signal that you've reached a peak, a valley, or maybe just a weird little plateau in the middle of nowhere. 🤔

Some people actually took what the mod said as some kind of joke. 🤔 😲

Man, he just stays there, standing his ground like old William Howard Taft.
It’s not even bizarre if you think about it—it’s just being responsible. It's straightforward, decisive, and honestly, it's just common sense at this point.

Look, B—this isn't some joke. We’re taking your request seriously, and we're doing it with nothing but respect. But you have to understand that the reasons our solid, hardworking moderators had to step in and sanction your previous activity? Those are just as valid and being treated with the same level of seriousness.

Look, it’s actually pretty straightforward—you’ve basically just got yourself an IF loop with two variables and two possible outcomes.

Look, just go talk to the mods and see if you can smooth things over with them. If they decide to play ball and accept the situation, we’ll all back them up and respect their call to get you back to where you actually want to be. 👍
Thanks, Cuca, for the ban! in Feedback & Suggestions ·

You really blew it, man. You had this golden opportunity to get into some actual, heavy-hitting debates about policy and other deep, meaningful stuff, but you just let it slip through your fingers.

This place isn't for all that sludge—the endless political bickering, the constant griping about politicians, or any of those tired social tropes. It’s just noise.

To put it bluntly: I don't want politics in my shop!

Questions about Ozempic for diabetes? in Health ·
Ozempic (dulaglutide, a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, or GLP-1 for those who like the technical jargon) is currently being used in clinical practice here in the States.

The whole idea behind this medication was to design something that wouldn't kick you in the teeth with side effects.
From what I've seen so far, it actually seems to be hitting the mark, as most patients are handling it pretty smoothly without much drama.

That said, we all know that any medication can become a bit of a liability if it isn't administered following proper clinical guidelines and best practices.

The guidelines for the Health Forum have been laid out pretty clearly and decisively here health forum rules.

I really want to zoom in on that first sentence:

1. This Health Forum is just a space for us to swap opinions, personal stories, and general info regarding health topics. Any information or advice you find here is strictly used at your own risk. Nothing posted here is meant to be a substitute for actual medical advice from a doctor.

So, yeah, that’s basically the deal.

Colectomy recovery advice? in Health ·
stormyviper2 said:I know this thread is ancient, but I need to bump it.
I’ve got familial adenomatous polyposis, pretty much an undefined mess. There are somewhere between 80 and 100 polyps in my large intestine, plus about 30 sitting in my duodenum.
What I'm wondering is...
Ever since my last colonoscopy, I ended up with a double inguinal hernia.

So, here's what's on my mind.

I realize a colectomy is a massive deal. It's physically brutal, and honestly, the idea of how it might change my body is something I'm really struggling to wrap my head around.

How much of a gamble am I taking by going through with a colectomy when my body is already feeling so trashed?

And with these groin hernias, I'm also questioning if I can even handle more colonoscopies down the road.

It just feels like my body is slowly breaking down. Everything seems to be hitting the fan at once. I'm lost on who to talk to, where to go, or how to actually explain the full scope of my situation to someone without getting kicked out of the office after sixty seconds.

I just want to sit down with someone, walk them through a full summary of my health, and figure out a game plan for dealing with this hereditary polyposis. I have no clue who to turn to or what the next move should be. Thanks.

This is a heavy one, man. Really delicate stuff you're dealing with.

Your best bet is definitely to gather at least two or three different expert opinions from various places—like Mayo Clinic or Johns Hopkins. You'll want to talk to gastroenterologists, abdominal surgeons, and honestly, I’d suggest bringing an oncologist into the mix too.

At the end of the day, you’ve gotta make the call yourself, weighing all the pros against the potential downsides.

I'm sure they've already walked you through the malignancy risks that come with having that many polyps. 🕺
Every surgery comes with its own set of risks, no way around it.
You just have to weigh the options and decide which "lesser evil" you can live with. Unfortunately, there isn't really a perfect scenario here. 🕺

In this particular thread, there was an attempt to provide some semblance of a coherent answer.

Honestly, looking back at this whole "debate," it’s pretty hard to tell if anyone actually managed to pull it off.

When you're all duking it out over this current young lady, maybe try keeping a few basic facts in mind:

-she's a minor

-and even if she is dealing with health issues—that's just one more reason why we shouldn't be tearing a kid apart because of her condition.

It’s on me, as a moderator, that I didn't immediately drop a well-deserved card protest on that opening post where the OP was already busy obsessing over someone else's penalty.
I’ll definitely do my best to make sure I don't let a slip-up like that happen again.

Usually, when a thread starts out this messy, any hope that it might actually head toward something constructive or useful doesn't last very long.

Amen to that hope and to the thread itself, 🙂

Is this how we're playing? in Feedback & Suggestions ·

Honestly, we let this thread run wild for way too long, which is totally on us—an editorial oversight if you want to call it that.

At first, I actually had this little illusion that the conversation might finally pivot toward something halfway decent or even constructive.

Next time, I’d honestly rather just sit down with a collected edition of the Grimm brothers, Charles Perrault, H. C. Andersen, or similar folks—in those fairy tales, anything is possible, including the hope that this thread would actually make sense.

Until then, feel free to keep arguing or whatever else you want about who said what, but please stick to using appropriate PDFs for those debates.

The bottom line? America is beautiful, and the US is beautiful (and the people there are even better, oops), plus you can find good, hardworking, kind, and smart folks everywhere you go, and there's always plenty of great food and drink to enjoy.
Stick to that instead of all this endless bickering, talking in circles, and just spinning wheels for no reason.

P.S. I cleared out the posts solely so we don't end up "rewarding" certain authors for trolling, going off-topic, being intentionally obtuse, or any of those other "highly desirable" ways of communicating you see around here.
