I have to agree—that Super Bowl VII underdog story always felt inevitable, and looking back, it actually makes perfect sense.

Nomadland (2020)
in Movies ·
This movie was clearly engineered specifically to chase the festival circuit—and it succeeded. Honestly, the caliber of this year's nominees is about as impressive as the Oscar viewership numbers.
I’d try to write two or three insightful critiques, but frankly, even this film isn't worth the breath. It just infuriates me—living in an era where such mindless, hollow cinema actually picks up awards. We've entered a strange age for art.

Budget PC build under $800

Hmm, you think it’s actually worth holding off on a purchase instead?
If GPU prices are being driven up by this whole "mining" craze—it could drag on forever, or am I just being overly pessimistic?

Budget PC build under $800
in Desktops ·
Hey everyone—I’m pretty much a novice when it comes to PC parts, so I’m looking for some guidance on putting together a build around $1833. If we need to go slightly over that budget to make sense of things, I’m open to it.
The machine will be primarily for gaming, though it’ll occasionally pull double duty for work. I really want to be able to run modern titles without everything crawling to a halt—my current rig is about 10 years old and honestly struggles even with older games. 😁
Planning to head out and buy everything in cash this weekend.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It’s tough to break new ground in prison movies—there are just too many built-in limitations—but even then, The Shawshank Redemption and Escape from Alcatraz are fundamentally different films with completely opposing goals. Getting caught up in nitpicking specific subgenres is pretty pointless; if we did that, we’d just end up with a mountain of "copycat" heist, fantasy, or sci-fi flicks that barely share anything beyond a thin veneer of similarity.
Why does everyone treat high schoolers differently?
in Psychology ·
I have no idea what kind of social circles you’ve been running in to feel that way. In all my years going through high school—and I’ve moved in plenty of different groups—I never once met someone suffering from an inferiority complex just because of where they went to school.
And let’s be real: prep schools aren't exactly breeding grounds for geniuses. Honestly, where you spent your teenage years says absolutely nothing about your brainpower.
To be blunt, I think you’re overthinking this. Maybe the issue is actually you? You sound pretty green. You might want to take a hard look at this supposed "intellectual superiority" you claim to have over vocational students. 😁

Remakes and sequels: how much is too much?
in Movies ·
Look, I'm not telling you how to live your life. If remakes and prequels irritate you that much—honestly, just steer clear. There are plenty of film industries outside of Hollywood churning out incredibly imaginative movies with fresh ideas.
Besides, how exactly does a remake hurt the original? I don't really watch them—and frankly, they’re usually garbage—but occasionally they spark an interest in the original, which is a win. Sometimes I'm even curious about a new take on an old concept. Now, I'll just blather on aimlessly... I'm a huge fan of the Halloween series, and I actually had fun seeing how Rob Zombie played around with the whole concept. Quality-wise, the movie was miles below Carpenter's original, but I enjoyed myself and satisfied that fanboy itch for a new Michael Myers adventure. 😁
And thank God, there are enough good movies to throw at you. Even if you watched five films every single day, you'd still be lagging behind and wouldn't even scratch the surface.
Damn it, Hollywood is built on money, and that’s exactly why it survives—that magic piece of paper. For sure. But, thanks for nothing, true cinematic art doesn't depend on Hollywood. 🙂

What movies are on your wishlist?
in Movies ·
In this day and age, when every single movie is basically at your fingertips, a topic like this feels pretty pointless—unless, of course, you're specifically talking about original DVDs.
And even if we are talking about physical collections, I’ve moved past that too... technology moves way too fast; eventually, all these formats will just be replaced by something better anyway.
I don't actually own a single movie collection. I'll watch something, then I delete it.
