Which lap was that when he finally peeled out of the pits? 🙏

Massa, Button, Rosberg, Schumacher all in one single lap... 😲

Some genius was busy overanalyzing how Vettel can't actually overtake on track 😍

He was freaking incredible in this race. 👍

In my opinion, when it comes to overtaking during a Grand Prix, Vettel is easily one of the best drivers out there right now. He handles those moves with real efficiency.
Edward Howard2 said:Alonso had an absolute rocket of a start... you can just tell the guy is a total master of his craft... even in a subpar car...

The McLaren crew seems pretty stoked, basically just patting themselves on the back... but here’s the cold, hard truth...

Vettel has stretched his lead to 41 points over Chemist... so what does that actually do for McLaren? Not much.

At the end of the day, finishing the season in second or fifth doesn't mean squat when people only care about the champions... plus, Hamilton just took another massive step backward during this race...

And he had a car that could have actually kept pace with Vettel... he just lacked the guts and the pure skill to pull it off.

That car just wasn't up to the task.
You heard Lewis say it himself during the press conference—the downforce Red Bull is generating through those corners is nothing short of incredible. It's the truth.
You can see it with your own eyes, too. Lewis stays right on Vettel's tail approaching the finish line, but once they hit that first chicane, Vettel just loses it and flies off. There was simply no way for him to catch up.

Credit to Alonso for those first 30 laps, though.

He’s a solid actor. Unfortunately, lately, he's fallen into the same trap as so many other actors, settling for a string of mediocre projects. It feels like he's drifted into a gray area of questionable choices where the roles just haven't hit the mark—looking at stuff like Unstoppable, Deja Vu, or The Taking of Pelham.
I think there’s some truth to the idea that we’re just getting older. When I watch modern parodies lately, my first thought is often, "I've seen this all before," which honestly isn't a bad assessment of the genre.
I actually sat down the other day to watch the Golden Gun, which is basically a sequel I had never bothered with before. It was just okay for me—mostly because I felt like I’d already encountered every single gag or something very similar elsewhere.

If I had to pick the absolute best parody out there, it would have to be Airplane!🙂

What I find funniest about this thread is how people argue over who’s better than whom without having actually watched either of them play.
Since we can't rely on eye tests here, we end up clinging to statistics, even though numbers don't always tell the full story.

How can anyone claim to know if Senna or Michael Schumacher was superior when they haven't sat through a single one of Senna's races?

placidotter132 As I was saying:
Most Americans don't have the slightest clue what handball even is. 😂

It’s the same reason why people in Denmark don't know the first thing about baseball—they just aren't interested. 😉

I feel like today's swimmers are somewhat overrated.
There are entire scientific studies, strict diets, specific training regimens, and high-tech suits that have been engineered to perfection.
It’s especially true for those 100m sprinters.
The last swimmer I truly respected in the sprint category was Alexander Popov; compared to him, guys like Allan Bernard don't even come close.

I have nothing against Phelps—he deserves his accolades—but you have to admit he had a massive genetic advantage (and I'm certainly not trying to take away a single one of his medals).

Adam Moore said:Beyond the fact that he led his squad to the Conference Championship at age 40—and statistically, if not purely in skill, had a top-four year for a Hall of Fame career—I honestly can't stand Favre. But the guy isn't overrated. I think you'll rarely see him ranked above Marino, Montana, Tom Brady, Elway, or Manning. And honestly, that’s fair.

Is Brady really that great of a QB?

I don't know. He seems fine to me. My take is that he stepped into a perfectly tuned organization and had an offensive line that let him sit comfortably in the pocket for five seconds without being harassed.

Adam Moore said:Honestly, I highly doubt this survey was scientifically conducted or even holds much credibility. That said, hockey is definitely more popular than soccer, the WNBA, IndyCar, or WWE and the other sports further down the list. By the way, this ranking is about viewership, not participation rates. I’m not convinced cricket draws more viewers globally than American football, even if it might be the second most played sport in the world.🤷

Anyway, let's get back to the main topic.😁

I love hockey—it's my favorite sport in the world—but I still didn't expect to see it ranked this high. I mean, some teams like Atlanta, Phoenix, Islanders, and Florida barely hit two-thirds capacity at their arenas.

Then again, my perspective is probably skewed because I focus on those five or six specific teams.
Overrated sports icons? in Other Sports ·
I’m a bit puzzled seeing hockey sitting at 7th place. It seems like some teams really struggle to fill up arenas that hold around 16,000 or 17,000 people, though I have to admit, a few of those venues are rarely packed anyway.

Michael Schumacher used to spend countless hours on the track, obsessively testing his car just to shave off every possible millisecond. You rarely see that kind of dedication in drivers today.
I wouldn't say he was being hyperbolic about it.

Adam Moore said:Hey, is this thread about comparing legends within their own specific sports, or are we trying to measure greatness on a global scale? Because if it's the latter, I think the whole debate is pretty much a dead end.

I was actually referring to the first option.😉

That's why I brought up the comparison between Lance Armstrong and someone like Eddy Merckx. Merckx was an incredible, far more successful cyclist, yet he doesn't have nearly the same level of mainstream recognition.
There are plenty of other examples I could pull from, too.

My point is, let's keep the focus within the context of the sport itself.

I’m starting this thread because of the reasons I laid out in my very first post. Looking back at these 47 posts, it seems like about 30 of you guys have spent the entire time bickering over whether baseball is actually popular in Nicaragua or Papua New Guinea.

shadowridge14 said:Look, friend, I have to disagree. To me, Joe Biden, a world champion in bocce, is a much bigger sports legend than this Ruth guy, who isn't even an athlete in any real sport.
Who actually plays this besides some Americans who ruined rugby by adding helmets and groin guards and then calling it FOOTBALL? (Absolute blasphemy to true enthusiasts!) Joe is a master of a sport played by more than three countries in the entire world! ☕

Listen, you’ve got it wrong.
If you aren't familiar with baseball at a professional level, that's really on you.

Plenty of nations host professional leagues. From Asia: Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan...
all the way through Europe: Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom...
Australia, and finally the USA and Canada.

Your comment feels pretty unrefined, like it's coming from someone who doesn't actually follow sports.

Matthew Anderson4 said:Muhammad Ali

Is Muhammad Ali an overrated figure?
In terms of pure stats, others might have surpassed him, but his charisma and presence inside the ring likely make him one of the most recognizable fighters to ever live.
Daniel Booth37 said:(for instance, Michael Jordan, Mark Spitz, Neil Armstrong, Michael Phelps), though some aren't quite as much because they feel more like media icons than athletes performing miracles (Babe Ruth and Cassius Clay come to mind, even if people might disagree).

Babe Ruth being a legend just because of media hype...
No way. Babe was genuinely one of the greatest to ever play the game.

I’d argue that Joe Louis is a better example of someone whose fame was amplified by the media and his personal life (like his connection to Marilyn Monroe).

Also, why is everyone so obsessed with Lance Armstrong when it comes to cycling? He doesn't even hold a candle to guys like Jacques Anquetil or Sean Kelly.
Overrated sports icons? in Other Sports ·
The title might be a bit clunky, but here’s my main point...
Have we collectively forgotten certain athletes? Maybe modern marketing has created this illusion that today's stars—or even recent legends—are the only ones who matter, making us overlook people from previous eras...
I'm thinking about those who might have been unfairly overlooked as the absolute greatest in their respective fields...

Just to give you some examples:
Take Lance Armstrong. For many people, if you ask who the best cyclist ever was, he's probably the first name that pops up, while someone like Eddy Merckx gets pushed to the background.

Then there's Ayrton Senna. He's widely considered the GOAT, but I find myself wondering if he truly held that level of dominance over his peers. Every time I catch a documentary about Formula 1, he's always the central figure they focus on.

I can think of plenty more. Take Alex Rodriguez, for instance. Was he actually as great as his stats suggest, or did the media just turn him into an untouchable icon?

So, I’d love to hear from anyone more knowledgeable about sports than I am. Which legendary figures have been unfairly forgotten or undervalued, despite being among the best to ever play?

And please, feel free to correct me if my take is a bit too subjective...
Login issues in Forum Help! ·
I’ve run into this exact same issue myself. Even now, it still happens occasionally, though not nearly as often as it used to. I’ll enter my username and password, hit the login button, and then—just like what happened to rustyseal8—this notification pops up. When I look back at the fields, my credentials have been wiped clean. It feels like I haven't logged in at all, but technically, I am. I actually went to check on my most recent post just to be sure, and there it was: a little green light under my handle showing I was online.
Nickname change (read first post!) in Forum Help! ·
Is there anyone else here using the name _Azur_? I couldn't find any other profiles with that handle.

I went ahead and read the first post, but I usually just stick to posting within my own thread about my office fax machine. Would that be okay?🙂

If that’s your logic, then you aren't reading the rules carefully enough, because you already violated the first three guidelines. The only reason I didn't just delete your post immediately is because you mentioned reading the opening post. So, to answer your question: no.

Thanks for all the advice. You guys have already given me a pretty good idea of what I actually need.

Jason Harris5 suggested I look into Intel graphics. Is there a specific reason for that?
I'm wondering if there's any real advantage to going with Intel over a Radeon HD5470(4570)...

Also, would it be possible to move this thread to a different PDF if my questions and your answers from this one end up being useful🙂.

Huh, I didn't realize CAD software and Linux weren't exactly on speaking terms.
I was actually hoping to grab a Linux laptop because I need to run some CAD programs for my coding projects.

Regarding downloading software, I know how that works. Back during my freshman year, we were given free access to download SolidWorks for one of our required courses.

Yeah, having a solid warranty is a big deal for me, along with decent battery life.

As for the screen size... I think a 15.6'' display should be plenty for what I need.
