darkangler11 said:Oh yeah, absolutely—I totally forgot about that part. Like those moments where little Damien just looks at someone and instantly knows if they're on his side—like when he locks eyes with that Rottweiler in the woods. Those scenes give me actual chills, especially with that creepy score playing in the background.

It’s such an incredible Film, especially within the horror genre. Honestly, I was on edge for like 80% of it. I could probably watch it a hundred times and never get bored.

Uuuuu, yeah, exactly! It's just a damn good movie, plain and simple. I honestly don't get why it doesn't rank higher on all those top 20 horror Movies lists you find online. I think I've only seen one list where The Omen actually made the top 10.

Maybe it's because The Omen and The Exorcist deal with similar themes, and most people tend to pick The Exorcist over everything else. They probably think it's redundant to have ten movies with the same vibe on one list. Personally, though? I'd take The Omen over The Exorcist any day.

darkangler11 said:1. Rosemary's Baby—that moment she finally sees the child. It might not be "scary" in a jump-scare way, but it’s easily the most unsettling scene I've ever seen. Plus, that soundtrack really cranks up the dread.

2. The Omen—honestly, hard to pick just one scene because the atmosphere is creepy from start to finish. Maybe that part where Damien is riding his bike down the hallway and knocks his mom over? Or the scene in the church when the nanny shows up to kill her. Then there's when Damien starts screaming while driving toward the church... or the zoo scene where the monkeys go wild. And again, all of it set to that Oscar-winning score.

3. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre—firstly, when they get stuck in that van out in the middle of nowhere and head to that House looking for help, only to find the slaughter family living there. Second, just the first appearance of Leatherface.

4. Psycho—as a kid, I was genuinely traumatized by that shower scene everyone knows, especially with that music playing.

5. The Exorcist—pretty much any scene involving the little girl when the demon takes over. That voice and those weird, distorted movements... chilling.

6. Carrie—when she gets drenched in pig's blood at the prom. That look on her face right before everything goes south... I haven't watched it in ages, so maybe it would seem cheesy today, but as a kid, it was terrifying.

There's plenty more where that came from—this is just my first pass.

For The Omen, I'd have to highlight the scene where the nanny throws herself (well, hangs herself) through the window.

Inspired by the thread about the best sci-fi scenes, I figured it was time to kick off a discussion on the greatest horror scenes ever. Doesn't have to be an exhaustive list—let's try to keep it tight, maybe just 3 to 5 picks. If you're down, let's avoid repeating the sci-fi horror stuff we've already talked about (like Alien or The Mist). Here are my personal favorites, and they aren't necessarily in any specific order:

1. Halloween — that iconic shot of Michael Myers driving his car, all set to that legendary soundtrack.

2. 2. nightmare in brijest — honestly, any scene where those kids are singing that creepy song about Freddy.

3. Orphan — the scene where little Orphan attacks the nanny... I can't even decide which part of that is my favorite.

4. 4. Friday the 13th — when Jason Voorhees gets his mask for the first time.

and for the end one of stupid — the absolute madness from Human Centipede where the guy creates his "masterpiece" and everything surrounding it. Honestly, I don't even want to think about how messed up that Film was.

Personally, I think the ending of The Mist is the saddest part—if you even consider that movie Sci-Fi.

Watched it today. It's not great. The story and characters are fine—decent enough—but the pacing drags, and most of the jokes just fall flat. Still, it’s okay to watch if you have nothing else to do, so 6/10

Ethan Martin said:Look, plenty of people have said the exact same thing—and then they ended up saying Cruise is actually great here because he looks nothing like his old self, haha. Even some people who aren't fans of his said that, so... just give it a shot. Let the folks here tell you what they think, but honestly? It's a great movie.

I'll give it a chance. Whatever happens, happens. 👍

Ethan Martin said:Take a look at this. Edge of TomorrowTrust me, you won't regret spending even a single second watching this. It’s just an absolute Sci-Fi masterpiece—plain and simple. 😁.

Man, haha... honestly, as soon as I say "honestly," you already know exactly what kind of mood I'm in. 🍿

I think Blade Runner 2049 is a solid film, but personally—at least for me—Edge of Tomorrow is easily the best Sci-Fi since the start of the 2000s.

Look, don't get me wrong—I'll take Interstellar over anything any day, mostly for personal reasons—but Edge of Tomorrow? Man... that movie is an absolute masterpiece.

If it were anyone else, I’d definitely give it a watch. But I just can't picture Tom Cruise in this one—it feels off. Still, I'll add it to my list and maybe get around to it eventually.

It's a bummer you listed them all—I've seen most of these. Though, honestly, Alien eats all of them for breakfast. Plus, I don't think some of these even count as true Sci-Fi. X-Men, 28 Days Later (that was a virus thing, right?), Zombieland (zombies aren't really Sci-Fi, in my opinion), and Paul are more like comedies. Then there's WALL-E and Despicable Me—they're animated, so I'd put those in their own little category.

Ethan Martin said:Alright, I'll pick just one—personally, I thought it was really good, maybe even great;

Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise.

I should probably mention Moon, too—solid film.

And we can't overlook Interstellar or Blade Runner 2049 either.

But looking at the big picture? Nothing this century even comes close to the classics from the last one. Not even close.

I have to admit, I haven't seen any of these (except Blade Runner, since it's a sequel). Maybe there's a decent Sci-Fi movie out this century, but I need some time to think—my mind usually goes straight back to the stuff from the previous century.

It's interesting—most of the picks in this thread are scenes from movies made in the last century. Does that mean directors today just don't have much imagination? 😁
Probably. For starters, I can't even think of a decent sci-fi movie from this century that isn't just some remake or a sequel to a classic from the previous one. Let alone a truly iconic scene.

Patrick Martin said:sorry guys, but you've got no defense against this one☕

it’s basically just a collage of different scenes🙏

even visually, the film is already a masterpiece—and that's not even counting everything else...

sorry... really feel for you guys

I'm with you. Ellen Ripley is an unbeatable icon. Both the first one and the second—which’s definitely more of an action flick—are classics.

Richard Wilson4 said:Is this even decent enough to count as a historical action flick?

Not really. It’s hard to call this a historical movie when—aside from the whole Mulan legend—there isn't much historical substance to it. If you're actually looking for history, you'd be better off watching the 2009 version. It's definitely an action movie, though I found some of those scenes a bit over the top and unrealistic. But hey, that's pretty common for Chinese action films.

Ellen Ripley taking on the Alien Queen in Aliens

And that iconic scene where the Alien bursts out of the chest

Still can't make up my mind about the Third one
Disney's Mulan (2020) in Movies ·
Just finished watching, and yeah, I agree—it’s pretty rough. It’s watchable if you're bored, but honestly, you aren't missing much if you skip it. The action scenes feel way too over-the-top, and the plot just follows the animated movie's beats—except everything was better in the cartoon. The animation had more tension, more drama, and actually felt interesting. Plus, the characters were so much better and more unique back then—this version misses Mushu, Chi-f, and even those three soldiers. Compared to the original, this one just falls flat. 5/10

Nathan Turner3 said:I’m honestly pretty disappointed—it really misses that specific atmosphere you get from the animated movie it's based on.

It feels full of naive moments and is almost completely devoid of humor—honestly, I'd say it lacks soul, too.

I haven't seen it yet, but even just from the trailer, it was obvious they weren't going for the vibe of the cartoon—instead, they went for that classic Chinese martial arts epic style (especially during the fight scenes).
Maybe a month or two. Most of the time, I was just caught up in some series or a reality show—didn't really have much room left in my schedule for movies.

Kenneth Cruz67 said:I wouldn't know. Someone moderate and easygoing. They don't even strictly have to be on the right—could be neutral or even leaning left—as long as they aren't dug in like a stubborn mule, just enough to keep things balanced. 🤷

It’s also worth noting that the admin doesn't actually live in the States—they aren't feeling the current social climate or the specific era we're living through here in America, at least not firsthand. So, it might make sense to have someone local. No shade intended toward the admin 🤷

I agree. Philosophy is such a complex subject—there's always going to be friction and clashing viewpoints. It would be great to have two moderators, maybe one left-leaning and one right-leaning (not radicals who punish anyone with a different opinion, obviously, just for the sake of balance). We should probably apply this logic to other subreddits too—not all of them, but definitely some.

Fair enough. You've been around here longer, so maybe you caught things I missed—you probably have a better eye for it. Personally, aside from the off-topic stuff, I didn't think anything was particularly out of line.

Melissa Stewart6 said:Are you talking about an unofficial moderator? Anyone can issue a warning, but who’s actually going to listen if they don't have any real authority? lol.

Unspoken agreements are always tricky because the community ends up split and argumentative over them.

That’s exactly my point. It sounds utopian, I know—but even just having someone step in to nudge a thread back on track would help. Looking at what I went through on that philosophy pdf, the issue wasn't even people being rude (I didn't see any insults there, at least)—it was all the off-topic rambling. That's what totally kills threads—take that whole discussion about moderation, for instance; it felt completely pointless.

Melissa Stewart6 said:How so?

Well, we could just pick someone to moderate—just enough to nudge the threads back on track so we don't drift too far off-topic. Someone who’d give us a heads-up when things get wild. We aren't dealing with insults here, just way too much off-topic chatter. I know, without actual moderation tools, it sounds a bit idealistic—but even just having someone point out when we've gone overboard would help.
