I suppose the screenplay and direction both deserve the nod for Boyhood. ☕

Maybe try picking up a basic logic textbook! ☕

It feels like this has all turned into trolling, ad hominem attacks, and general condescension. I suspect the issue might actually lie with you.

Sam Lee2 said:Atheism is essentially its own kind of religion.

That also strikes me as a typical trolling statement, much like how people claim evolution is just a religion in order to spark arguments online.

We are discussing movie impressions. How can there be a "wrong" opinion here? If he thinks Divergent is the better film, then that's his reality. It’s the same for me; I prefer that one too, even though I grasp the deeper themes of the Hunger Games series. Perception is subjective. One person connects with one film, another with something else. There is no such thing as a "wrong" take. I'll say it again: stop acting like the ultimate authority on objectivity. You aren't objective, and neither am I. Period.

I was under the impression that you were criticizing me for using my own perception of depth as an argument. I guess there was a misunderstanding there. I didn't realize you were being serious when you claimed that was such a strong argument.

Am I demanding that you view my opinion as objective? Not at all. Feel free to view it however you like, just as I might choose to view your opinion as incorrect. 👋
Megan Morales10 said:By the way, @silvergardener6. For someone who wields such an impressive vocabulary during debates, your actual depth of thought is surprisingly shallow. I’m referring back to your exchange with that "A stranger" user. I have a special kind of disdain for people who operate under the delusion that their perspective is the ultimate objective truth while everyone else is just wrong. Your dismissal of the argument "I perceive depth differently than you" as being anything less than valid was a massive facepalm.

🥱

It seems fairly obvious that some opinions are just plain wrong, generally speaking. I suppose the world might actually fall apart if that weren't the case.

Regarding that so-called "argument" mentioned earlier, I don't think I was actually calling it out.
Divergent has scenes that are ten times deeper than anything found in Hunger Games.

Once again, 😂

I believe I managed to prove my point through those specific characters and examples, so I don't really feel the need to revisit the topic anymore.
I suppose this film definitely shows some signs Part 1 regarding its narrative structure, but without a doubt, it’s the most serious, intimate, and politically intelligent entry in the franchise so far. There are a few clunky scenes and moments where the acting feels a bit forced, I guess, but there is so much goodness here that it more than justifies itself as a standalone movie. If you were expecting a fast-paced action spectacle, you might find yourself disappointed. However, if you prefer a story that prioritizes atmosphere, building tension, and an emotional weight that actually sticks with you, then it’s quite possible this could become your favorite The Hunger Games film. I was really hoping for this kind of second installment, and I think I got exactly what I wanted; it never felt slow to me for even a second. It reminds me a bit of how Harry Potter was handled—where many people found PT 1 to be a bit sluggish while PT 2 was packed with action, yet even today, I still find myself preferring PT 1.

It seems to me that the current political climate allows for someone to claim that a specific individual living with ALS is worthless, without necessarily implying that everyone suffering from ALS is worthless. 🤔

If I have truly insulted another user or used offensive labels, please feel free to list those specific posts here so I can be held accountable. I would genuinely like to understand the criteria being used, because I don't believe calling someone's comment "hysterical" should fall under that category—it really makes me wonder why everyone seems so insistent on telling me to stop. Or perhaps this is just the third or fourth attempt on your part to discredit me using empty rhetoric and fabrications; from what I can see in another thread on Reddit, your own history of provocation isn't exactly spotless either.

bluenomad2 said:I’m not quite sure how you can call that an insult, kid.

Calling someone a pseudo-scientist isn't really an insult, in my opinion; honestly, you could probably try selling that line to grandmothers at a local farmers market. I still view you in that light based on your contributions over on the movie subreddit and various other subforums. I don't see this as an attack, but rather more of a gentle suggestion that you might want to try generalizing less, labeling people, or being dismissive toward others—things you seem to do quite frequently on the movie subreddit. Right now, you're focused on the discussion about Interstellar, and even looking at your latest post, it seems heavily weighted toward labeling and belittling other users just because they happen to disagree with your perspective. If you were going to belittle actual people, like I do, then maybe it would be different, especially if they were from out of state.

And since you're constantly citing scientific facts that, I suspect, aren't actually facts about 99% of the time, I think it's fairly clear what's really happening here.

Now you're playing the victim. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Using nouns as descriptors again, I see.

It's not as though I expected you to come forward with the truth. Every time you slip up with a falsehood, I ask you to back it up, and you tend to disappear, so I won't bother asking you to do that this time.

The matter is settled, and I would like to request that the moderators close this thread; it started as a specific discussion but has devolved into talking about everything under the sun, which really should be reserved for different threads.

northerncrane4 said:I just wanted to mention that I received the notification. ovog posta I honestly don't know how to handle this situation. To me, it feels just as borderline as it does for many others participating in this thread; there are definitely certain elements of insults and trolling mixed in there, so I suppose it’s up to someone to decide how we should proceed.

I don't think I've crossed any lines here. When I shared my thoughts on the movie and responded to other posts, my intention was never to attack anyone personally. My point was simply that, up until that moment, there hadn't been much in the way of serious criticism. I didn't say there was absolutely none, and I stand by that, because it seems to me that a huge portion of the discourse has focused almost entirely on scientific accuracy. To my mind, those technicalities aren't really relevant when you're judging the actual quality of a film—especially those tiny details that people seem to obsess over thousands of times. I believe I have every right to explain why a certain comment felt superficial, or perhaps even one-dimensional, especially since his subsequent posts suggest he hasn't quite grasped the core of the issue yet. I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about whether love is truly as immeasurable as we like to pretend it is. We often cling to this romanticized notion that affection is some ethereal, unquantifiable force that defies logic, but I find myself wondering if that might just be a way to avoid looking at the data. It seems to me that, if we were being entirely honest with ourselves, love could actually be quantified through our actions, our time, and the sheer consistency of our presence in someone else's life. I guess it isn't as mystical as the poets make it out to be; perhaps it’s more of a measurable series of investments and sacrifices. Maybe we just prefer the mystery because the math feels a little too cold, but I can't help but feel there's a pattern there if you look closely enough. I suppose there isn't much to say about Dio, really. It’s one of those things where you just have to sit with it for a moment, I guess.

If you take a closer look at what I’m actually quoting in that post, you'll see it isn't just some marginal observation. I’m pointing out how they constantly engage with other users, make sweeping generalizations about Nolan fans, and react with this hysterical, troll-like intensity just because someone mentioned the word "ode" in a *raskoljnikovljev* context. It isn't marginal to me when snack includes a few lines about other commenters in almost every single post, simply because they seem unable to separate interpersonal drama from actual discussion about the movie itself. Their posts—and I mean the posts, not necessarily the person—always feel so emotionally charged and carry this frantic, hysterical tone. It's why Deckard jumps onto my reply to their thread, repeating those same patterns by telling me things like, "Calm down and take a deep breath," "This is more tragic for you," or "Go rewatch the movie before you come back."

You know what I did? I actually went back and watched the ending again. I suppose I’m always willing to reconsider my own stance if it means getting closer to the truth, and after giving it another look, I realized that he really doesn't have a clue. All that irony and constant mocking... it feels like he might not even truly grasp the weight of what he's talking about. I suppose one might argue that things become more tangible when they are quantifiable, though I find myself wondering if there's a certain inherent value in the things we can't quite measure. It feels like we often fall into this trap of thinking that if we can't put a number on something—whether it's an emotion, a sense of purpose, or even just a fleeting moment of beauty—then it somehow lacks weight or significance. Maybe I'm being a bit idealistic, but I've always felt that the most meaningful parts of our lives tend to exist in that gray area where data fails us. Of course, in a world driven by metrics and constant optimization, it’s easy to see why everyone is so obsessed with making everything measurable, but I guess I still hold onto the idea that some truths are simply felt rather than calculated..

I suppose if you were actually the one holding the reins and keeping everyone in check—especially those people who constantly go on about how one side is better than the other—then the entire topic and the subforum itself would probably turn out to be quite different and much better.

It seemed pretty clear to me that the post wasn't intended to target or offend anyone else on the forum.
As for his specific take on Hawking, I suppose that’s entirely his own business, and frankly, I don't feel much of an urge to get caught up in an endless debate over it.

As far as I'm concerned, looking at this from the perspective of a supermodel, I feel like this whole situation has already been settled.

This thread wasn't reopened because of some perceived slight against Hawking, but rather because I felt personally insulted. I don't think his behavior justifies my reaction in the chat when I asked, "What is that comment supposed to mean?" It feels like you just deleted the posts like you usually do, and I suppose bluenomad2 still doesn't seem to grasp that, according to the rules, direct insults toward other users shouldn't be permitted.

Look, if that’s how you’ve decided to play it, then I suppose that’s where things stand for me too. It seems like we've reached the end of the road on this one.

There is a significant difference between simply failing to appreciate someone and flat-out declaring them worthless as a human being, especially when we are talking about a man who was physically ill yet whose work serves as the foundation for so many concepts in physics. I believe my question in the chat was perfectly legitimate, and that certainly doesn't justify the moderators jumping straight to a direct insult toward me by just deleting everything without a word.

On a separate note, while I haven't personally been unfairly banned from this subreddit before, I’m starting to get the growing impression that the moderation team here is, to put it mildly, rather lax and disconnected—hardly present when they actually need to be, yet very much needed. This isn't just a personal grievance stemming from my recent complaints either; I've felt this way for quite some time now.

So, there you have it, 👋

I feel I should mention yet another reported incident that hasn't received any kind of response so far.

Remam said:If Hawking isn't worth anything, then why would the film be worth anything? 🤷

silvergardener6 said:What kind of comment is that!?

Remam said:You, of all people, acting like a pseudo-scientist, are probably the last one who should be commenting on this. 🥱

To be quite specific—I don't think it's right for someone to personally attack and insult me just because I pointed out how distasteful and uncivilized it was to dismiss a man, who achieved more than almost all of us despite his illness, as being worthless.

Fisher mentioned that the movie might not really land with the average viewer, almost as if they were trying to lecture us on how to think. I suppose, though, that it’s ultimately up to you to decide what you notice. 😁

Sheldon Cooper actually has nothing to do with this movie; he’s just a specific character from the Big Bang Theory. So, I feel like addressing me by those names is more of a personal provocation, especially when you include 😂. It doesn't really pertain to the discussion about the movie itself, but rather to the overall tone of the conversation, which I find a bit bothersome because the comment isn't aimed at the film or my arguments, but seems directed at me personally.

Regarding the point about average viewers, I don't think it's really about what you wrote about them. Instead, it feels more like your reaction to a comment that slightly belittles a group of viewers—people who, compared to walkman800, might actually make an average person feel quite intelligent. I suppose that also counts as trolling on a personal level, since the comment targets someone's intellect rather than focusing on the movie.

I am facing a specific issue that isn't necessarily about general moderation on the Movie board, so I thought I might open a new thread here instead. It concerns some posts I've reported—which I believe were justified—but even though the moderator has been active since then, there hasn't been any response. Since these are fairly recent entries, perhaps they just haven't gotten to them yet, but I suppose I have good reason to worry that they might not respond at all:

It involves these three posts where another user is being quite mocking and provocative, using various emojis and calling me Sheldon Cooper, which seems to be steering the discussion toward a personal level. I'm not entirely sure if that constitutes a direct violation of the rules, but personally, I don't really appreciate being called by names like that when we are simply discussing a movie:

The reason I feel the need to bring this situation forward immediately is that, regarding the movie itself, the moderator doesn't seem entirely impartial, or at least that's how it appears to me from this:

walkman800 said:👍 Sometimes, those of us who are just average people like to feel smart too. A movie like this arrives just at the right time.

silvergardener6 said:Well yeah, for those of us who liked the movie, we must be the average viewers that you all can feel superior to. northerncrane4, kudos to you for letting so many personal attacks slide here.

northerncrane4 said:I didn't say only average viewers love Interstellar, just that they do most often. Take a look for yourself, honestly. There are plenty of fans among that whole #ilovescience crowd. 😁
Big Eyes (2014) - Tim Burton in Movies ·
Big Eyes is the latest project from director Tim Burton, working alongside screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The film features standout performances by Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.

It seems to be a drama focusing on the rise of painter Margaret Keane, capturing her massive success during the 1950s and the intense legal battles she eventually faced against her husband, who tried to take all the credit for her art throughout the 1960s.

TRAILER

I believe the title track for the movie was recorded by Lana Del Rey.
Current Consensus:

The Hunger Games : Mockingjay - Part 1 serves as an effective prelude to the series finale, offering a penultimate chapter defined by mounting tension, strong acting, and some pretty thoughtful political undertones.

The reviews aren't exactly overflowing right now; they seem decent enough, I suppose, though there might be room for them to be even better.

I'm having a bit of trouble seeing how this qualifies as hate speech. While I suppose one could argue the signature itself is vulgar, the text also mentions those "insatiable privileged elites," which seems to be an opinion held by a significant portion of the American public who aren't necessarily backing these protests.
