That GE monitor is definitely worth a look... 😉

Thanks for the tips!

😉Thanks a ton for the reply, this looks killer. What about something with 1440p resolution, maybe even smaller? I’d actually prefer a 16:9 monitor. Sure, wider is better for video, but I’m doing photography too so I could use those extra horizontal lines...

But yeah, definitely worth chewing on those suggestions of yours...

Edit: just spotted the 1440p suggestion, only catch is it isn't IPS. Tnx!

Hey guys, looking for some advice on a 27" monitor or bigger. Budget is around $1.00. I need this mainly for photo and video editing—gaming isn't really my thing. It absolutely has to be an IPS panel, but doesn't necessarily need to be 4K...

Thanks in advance. 😉
Post-cardio meal ideas? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
@hollowsailor19/">@@hollowsailor19, what kind of crazy 500-1,000 calorie daily limit are you talking about???
How did you and everyone else figure out that’s seriously dangerous for your health? Yeah, you’ll lose weight for sure, but you’re gonna torch all your muscle mass too, and your strength and cardio will just tank... Calculate your basal metabolic rate plus your activity level—training or just moving around—then subtract maybe 500 calories from that total. That’s your daily target. I bet your math lands somewhere around 2,000 calories, maybe even higher. Don't go looking for instant results; do this the right way. Make sure you're hitting your protein goals, too. Bottom line: don't freak out over calories and starve yourself like that. Plenty of people end up with anorexia doing exactly that...

Alright, you guys actually managed to calm me down! 😁

I haven't really been obsessing over the temps in detail, which is why I was asking so many questions...

The only thing I've noticed is that AutoCAD pushes my CPU temps up pretty high (hitting 70°C) when I'm rendering on high settings. I read somewhere that this is a common issue with AutoCAD. Luckily, I rarely actually hit render; I mostly just do 3D modeling. That software hammers the processor while barely touching the GPU, whereas the graphics card helps out a bit when I'm messing around with the 3D model—like rotating an entire house or whatever—and everything runs fine there. I guess because of how those specific programs work, there are actual workstations designed to handle that kind of load better...

Another test I ran that I'm really happy with was stitching 280 photos into a panorama (gigapan). My CPU temps didn't even cross 52°. Opening and processing a massive batch of photos at once in Adobe Camera RAW also went super smoothly with low temps.

So basically, everything is fine and I totally overreacted... 🤦

Thanks for all the input, everyone!

I've already got a 120mm setup in the front... It's honestly weird how they designed this thing—giving you all these options for intake fans while the exhaust is basically pathetic. Is my current setup (a 120 in the front and an 80 in the back) actually providing decent airflow? It would’ve made way more sense if both were 120mm. I'm even considering a DIY mod to cut out the top panel so I can drop in an extra fan... the top gets pretty hot when I'm gaming, and heat rises, right? Some Corsair cases come with those vents straight from the factory, and now I'm kicking myself for not grabbing one of those. But then again, I hate the idea of hacking away at this case since it's brand new...

Thanks for the input, crimsonstag84. For now, I guess the temps are fine, but I'm really wondering what's gonna happen once summer hits...

Trying to breathe some life back into this thread (not sure where else to dump this question...)

So, I'm rocking a Corsair case. According to their official site, the airflow is supposed to come in through the front and side, then vent out the back. Since my goal is to get some negative pressure inside, I’m stuck on how to actually pull that off. The rear exhaust only has room for an 80mm fan (the one that came with the case). How should I set up the other fans—front and side—without creating positive pressure? Would it work if I put an extra exhaust fan on the side and kept the front as intake...?

Specs: I've got an Intel Core i7-4771 on an ASUS Z87 Motherboard, paired with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, a 120 GB SSD, a 500 GB HDD, a 1 TB HDD, 2x 4GB RAM, and an EVGA 750W PSU. Temps look decent while gaming (CPU stays around 50-52 °C for now), but my GPU is hitting 65-68 °C regularly, especially when playing Alan Wake on HIGH settings. It runs buttery smooth, but I feel like the card is running way too hot. Would switching to a better thermal paste help drop those temps at all? Any suggestions on which one to grab...
Sure, the rules say one thing, but let's be real—nobody’s actually checking. It’s not like there’s some massive crackdown happening where you’d even notice...
I mean, it works as sun protection anyway. Better than a hat since it actually shields you, plus it's pretty open and breezy...
As long as we don't get hit by those brutal winds, I'm good. I still remember this one climb back in 2008... that wind absolutely wrecked me...

Based on the forecast, things are looking solid. Basically perfect—not too hot, just enough of a breeze to keep things from getting gross...

San Francisco weather forecast

San Francisco weather forecast for Mount Rainier
Here’s a little tip you could use as a tactic against your main rival—straight from the race rulebook posted on the San Francisco Tourism Board site under "special notes!!!":
"Participants ride at their own risk, and organizers aren't liable for any damage a cyclist causes to themselves or a THIRD PARTY." — basically, if you take one out and they cause damage to the guy right behind them, you're golden... so just go for it... 😁
There aren't any specific degrees or percentages listed for the incline, but it’s not rocket science to figure it out yourself:

Back in the day, you only had to pay if you were using it for business; home use was totally free (and I'm not talking about the Lite version)... I'm not sure if they changed their policy recently, so maybe double-check that before you go buying anything...
Best player for 720p HDTV x264 files? in Software ·
Windows Media Player Classic... Either grab the whole thing or don't bother... K-Lite Codec Pack... just get it. Stop messing around with broken players that can't handle basic files. It works. Period. It’s all bundled together in one package that's under 20 MB... Once you get the K-Lite Codec Pack installed, you should be able to run that format on both Windows Media Player and BS Player without any issues. It adds the specific codecs you're probably missing right now...

Patrick King7 said:Why would you even care if the rear brakes are stronger than the fronts? All that weight shifts to the front end during braking anyway...

Exactly my point!

Whatever you do, don't blast those hot rotors with water. You'll warp them instantly...

If your riding style involves dragging the brakes constantly for two minutes straight, you probably picked a trail that's way too gnarly for you or your bike. Even on a heavy-duty downhill run, nobody's holding the brakes down like that, no matter how steep it gets...

How to hardcode subtitles into a video? in Software ·
Just grab the Codec Pack full version—it’s free, here’s the link:

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_co...k_download.htm

Once you get that installed, everything should work fine since that pack covers all the bases with codecs.

Make sure the subtitle file is sitting in the exact same folder as the movie and has the identical filename (just copy/paste the movie title onto the subtitle file or vice versa)

If that still doesn't cut it, it's probably an overlay issue. Some players use different "layers" for the video and the subs—they look like one image on my screen, but they're separate, so things get glitchy when you plug in a second monitor... depends on which player you're running. I'd suggest using Windows Media Player, which comes with the Codec Pack. If even Windows Media Player fails you, you might have to mess around with your multi-monitor settings.

Honestly, this is way faster than trying to hardcode subtitles. Hardcoding means re-encoding the whole damn movie into a new format, which takes forever and kills the picture quality.
