Gary Reyes said:Give me a break. Now I have to go hunt down some damn rubber boots just to survive the day. This weather is absolute garbage. -.-

Look, the crews running these festivals have been doing this for years. They know how June works in America.
They should’ve seen this mess coming and realized the weather would suck again. Instead of letting us play Woodstock in freezing mud, they could have at least put down some heavy-duty rubber matting in front of the main stage. 😁 It's common sense. ☕

BUT regarding Wednesday, the forecast is looking much better, and that’s all that matters to me. 😍
urbannomad30 said:Wednesday needs to be clear for The Flaming Lips 🙂
but rain for Massive would actually be fitting. 😬

😬 is right, dammit! 😠

I remember a few years back when they played at Cave. I thought... man, Cave is great... dark vibes... then they started playing Tupelo.... look-a look-a yonder and all that nonsense...
What a joke. Rain sounds better in theory than it does in reality. 😁

I'm going to be pissed if it rains on Wednesday. 👎 It looks like I'm just not destined to see Massive in a packed crowd. 🤷

edit: plus, I missed them last November at the arena. damn ☕

And it seems Sanjin Frljan knows exactly where to look.😁

👍

Heh... that guy Frank, for crying out loud... what a joke. 😁 Whatever. It is what it is. I’m letting it go—for both that pathetic Sanjina and his book buyers. 🤷

When it comes to those finance books—Kiyosaki and that whole crowd—I have nothing to say. It’s all pathetic.
Characters expose the obvious truth to a bunch of naive suckers, who then act completely stunned.
Justin Myers22 said:$83 just for one day, specifically at the festival box office. if I'm following this correctly, that means tickets can only be bought on the actual day of the show... unless the box office opens up the day before, but who knows how they run things

I don't get these setups either. Someone needs to explain this to me.. 🙂

So, apparently, single-day tickets for just one day are only available at the "festival box office." What does that even mean? Are we talking about the ticket booth right at the entrance on the day of the event? 🤷
Did it work like this in previous years?
Maybe my memory is failing me, but in the past, you could buy single-day passes in advance. Now, they're saying you have to buy them at the gate.. 🤷

Thanks for clarifying 🙏
Operation Pedophilia in Close to Politics ·
bluemarlin19 said:This thread exists to ask people to send a petition to TV networks to air the documentary "Deliver Us from Evil," with the goal of making it clear to everyone that in this whole mess, the Catholic Church isn't the victim—it's the institution that systematically protected, and continues to protect, pedophiles.

Nobody here is claiming that every single priest is a pedophile. The logic of the entire situation is crystal clear, but let me lay it out for you one more time:

The Holy Father issued a crystal clear mandate regarding strict secrecy concerning reports of child abuse—Fact.

The Holy Father regularly received notifications about abusers—Fact.

Abusers were routinely moved to different parishes without ever notifying the police—Fact.

You're the one trying to trivialize the Crime by turning this into a political issue.

It’s not that you’re stupid; it’s that you’ve been indoctrinated into believing that moral ruins can still act as authorities on morality.

You're doing this because you simply refuse to grasp what actually happened.

The Holy Father put the reputation of the Church ahead of the well-being of children.

The sad part is, most people find that perfectly acceptable....

Bullshit.
Traditional morality is anti-moral. When traditional morality is embraced, it brings about spiritual death. (And when I say "spiritual," I am referring to mental processes).

Therefore, you cannot claim something is merely the ruin of a concept and then argue that they are no longer authorities on it. The proclaimed morality of the Church has always been completely disconnected from reality, which is why people—including the clergy—have largely avoided it.
Furthermore, the very idea of an "authority" is flawed. True authority lies in reason, life, happiness, and fundamental human rights. Authority vested in a person or an organization never made much sense to begin with.

Even if this is off-topic... but fine... let's expand on this "church problem" 🙄 if we are going to talk seriously about the church and its associated phenomena.

Bottom line: it's a good thing those of us who missed out on Massive Attack a few months back will finally have the chance to fix that screw-up this year. 😍
Affirmative Action: Thoughts? in Philosophy ·
dustymason4 said:Can affirmative action ever truly be considered "positive"?

In certain corporate environments across America, if two applicants present nearly identical skill sets and meet all the requirements for a role, the tie-breaker often tips in favor of a woman. We even see instances where companies prioritize female hires exclusively for positions where gender shouldn't play any role in job performance whatsoever.

On one hand, I can see the logic behind pushing for more women in the workforce; they have historically faced systemic bias, from being passed over for promotions to enduring significant wage gaps compared to their male counterparts—not to mention the unfair reality of facing termination due to pregnancy.

But what about the individuals who find themselves sidelined because of these very same "positive" discrimination policies?

Does it make sense to combat one form of negative discrimination by implementing another "positive" one, essentially chasing a version of equality that isn't actually fairness, but merely a forced equilibrium between two extremes? Or would it be more effective to address the root cause of the prejudice within the minds of those making these decisions in the first place?🙂

No.
If you follow that logic to its natural conclusion, you end up discriminating against the very people you previously (and perhaps wrongly) labeled as privileged.

Take this scenario: if all immigrants were given priority for jobs over Americans under identical conditions, you'd effectively be screwing over the locals. Simple as that. ☕

For $33, if you buy 5 passes (meaning, not 5 individual transactions of $33, but rather you get a voucher for five passes when you pay for $33), you can camp. The whole point is simply to prevent those people from flooding the campgrounds who wouldn't even bother climbing the hill, let alone actually sitting down to watch a single film.

Seems like a smart move to me. They could have implemented this much sooner, considering it's essentially a film festival camp.. 😁
wiredranger30 said:I went last year and, honestly, it was a total waste of time because the lineup was garbage. 🤮 Just an absolute train wreck. It got to the point where I felt like losing my mind right in the middle of a screening 🙏. But I didn't—that would have been ridiculous—instead, I just walked out and 🤮. Napa Valley is essentially one giant pile of junk. I'm completely over the whole Sundance vibe. The films were an absolute d i s a s t e r 🤮 🤮 🤮

P.S. 🤮

my summer of love

plus some solid shorts in between—including Vigalondo. I'm pretty happy with it🙂 honestly, there wasn't much junk to wade through at all

Yeah, yeah... My Summer of Love by that Pawlikowski guy or whatever—if I remember right, I missed it because I was stuck on shift. 😬
Wenders had Land of Plenty, which turned out to be a massive load of crap. 👎
I watched Trier's Manderlay and a few others... honestly, I've already forgotten half of them. Need to refresh my memory on that whole lineup.
But yeah, if there were catastrophic movies—there definitely were.
There was also the death of Mr. Lazarescu... something foreign... and despite all the cinephile sentimentality, I have to say—no thanks! 😁

You're right, though it really varies from movie to movie.
If it's a big-name director and people have expectations, the screenings are packed. It depends.
As far as I know, isn't the crew behind ZFF basically the same group that runs Sundance? That's what I gathered from a few things...
Yeah, Sundance is a party where you go to be seen. The volunteers get all hyped up too, acting a bit high and mighty... because they feel like they're part of something incredibly cool. 😉
I was there in 2005, and honestly, that year had one of the weaker lineups. 😬

Larry Martin11 said:...from my own personal experience, I’ve come to the conclusion that being a cinephile who volunteers at a film festival is easily one of the most bizarre things you can do—because you’re either working or you're socializing, and in the end, you actually see fewer movies than if you had just planned your schedule and bought a ticket 🙂 and thought you’d somehow manage to catch everything 🙂
...honestly, last year at the Sundance Film Festival, I wanted to go for some not quite cinematic 😳 reasons, but it didn't work out in the end...

Exactly. The best strategy is to watch very few movies—maybe five—and besides, Sundance is the kind of festival that insists on its specific lineup. That's their whole identity: the films have to be "demanding for the audience." Whatever that means, which usually just means they're bad. Or they're ultra-depressing and boring, so half the seats are empty by rule. These aren't independent art films; they're just bad films. (At least they were this year when I was there.)
And those "screening rooms" aren't exactly great spaces for watching movies...
Volunteers can't even sit down until everyone who intends to show up has filled the seats. And frankly, volunteers usually don't care about the films anyway.😬
It's bizarre for sure. On top of having to "work," you watch two good movies and three nonsensical ones... and that's about it, if you exclude the alcohol and the crowd.
And of course, there are heaps of socialites and posers everywhere.

There, I've finally shared my impressions, though it isn't all that terrible. For a small-time thing—not bad at all. 😁

One little trick I know is that there really aren't any "behind the scenes" perks 😁
It’s hilarious how much people think things are different "out there." It’s basically the same thing "in here"
But that's just how it is at the Sundance Film Festival. I wasn't expecting anything astronomical 😁 but some people actually do, and they end up disappointed because they think they're going to get exactly what they imagined.
Volunteering itself is... fine. If you're looking for the benefits. 😁
Anyone thinking they're going to see something special, learn something, or whatever else... forget it, kid. 😁

ae. 🙂
Not worth commenting on. I have zero interest in analyzing impressions or whatever else.
The Sundance Film Festival is decent, but volunteering is what actually gives you the full picture of how the whole thing works... and so on. 🙂

The movie is great—beautifully shot and definitely kinky. The acting is solid, and Maggie is a total knockout. 😁

At its core, this is just a question of class and the ongoing feud between the middle class and the snobs.🙂 🤣..at least in an American context...
Sure, you might own some original DVDs, but let's be real: most of your collection is probably going to be DivX files, burned discs, or some old VHS tapes...etc...
The whole topic is pointless.😛

I’m backing New Yorker on the whole Pedar situation. 👋
These people... these schemes... hmmmmm

Jodorowsky has much more likable characters...

And as far as the films go... I feel bad for Kelly because he turned out to be a fool, especially given the ambition shown in his first film.
