I've had enough! in Psychology ·
I’m not sure if I can even post this here, but there was this incredibly clueless thread about how to end it all over on the psychology board just a moment ago. I was right in the middle of typing out my response when the moderator yanked the whole thread away from me...

And now the association is stuck in my head, so I might as well just dump my reply here since someone decided to hijack my topic... 🙄

----------

So, basically... someone had written that the absolute best way to commit suicide would be jumping out of a plane without a parachute...

It triggered a memory of this old kids' show from way back—though it wasn't strictly for children, if you think about it. I can't quite recall the host's name, let me think... oh, right, Mladen Kušec. He used to interview these kids who were considered "special"... asking them all sorts of things.

Anyway, he asked them what the worst thing in life could possibly happen to them...
And this one little kid goes:

"The worst thing is falling out of an airplane straight onto the tip of a needle"

lonepanther4 said:The search tool only pulls up the last 300 posts, regardless of which user you're actually trying to look up. 🙂

That’s not exactly right.
When you're using the search tool, just make sure to specify exactly which PDF—or which specific section of a PDF—you want the results to pull from under the "search in forum" option.
Theoretically, you’d have much better visibility. If you’ve been posting under all those PDFs, you can just add them up and multiply by 300 to figure out exactly how many posts will be listed. The only real catch is that you’ll have to deal with a 60-second wait every single time you run a search, which is honestly such a pain. 😍

Sean Cruz said:A bit more than that. I'm with you on everything. I can't talk much tonight, though—my brain is totally fried. 🤣

If there isn't a problem, then I don't see why you're complaining, 🤷 🙄

I'm not complaining, nor am I expressing regret... things happened the way they had to. 😉 I was simply using our chat to weigh different perspectives and viewpoints. 🙂

I ride my bike constantly, but now it looks like I'll have to try driving a truck too—just to get the full picture. 🤣 Now I just need to find someone willing to hand me the keys to their rig. 🤔

I'm a little wiped out tonight, so I didn't really feel like getting into the replies.

Look, if you’re out there hauling a passenger on a bike, you're basically operating with the same level of responsibility as driving a tractor, so... 🤔 It finally dropped. 😛 That whole explanation from AP was basically just a bunch of nonsense. 😁

Sean Cruz said:If I were to make one radical move, it would be to pack up everything and relocate to finally chase my lifelong dream. But honestly? That path comes with a heavy set of consequences. Trapped by societal expectations, I simply can't afford that kind of upheaval—not for myself, and certainly not for the people I care about. Beyond that, I’m a pretty stagnant person when it comes to other types of change; I tend to resist it quite stubbornly. And don't even get me started on how much I dislike certain things—I have absolutely zero interest in changing my ways just to suit someone else's agenda. 🙄

Quincy:
I bet there are only about four or five people actually reading this, LOL.
I often find myself thinking that very few people actually read what I write, so it comes as quite a surprise when they do...😁 🤣

The point I’m making is simple: I have absolutely nothing of value worth "exploiting."The only possible motive for something like that would be pure, senseless malice—and honestly, I’m pretty sure if someone had a character trait like that, I wouldn't have missed it.

Are you already starting to distance yourself from potential "attacks"? 🤣 You’re quite confident—I used to be exactly the same way.

It depends on my mood—you know how I am. 😍 Sometimes, people try to convince themselves that things aren't quite as bleak as they seem, but reality usually has a way of shutting that optimism down pretty quickly.

Oh, please. It’s obvious you guys just aren't getting it. You’ve clearly had one too many drinks.

🤣

Quincy:
The emphasis is on the word "cold." I tried to explain that earlier, though I admit I was being a bit scattered 😍—but not so much that it should have been incomprehensible.
I caught your drift, but then something else popped into my head and pulled me away... honestly, I'm even more distracted than you are. 😍
Quincy:
To sum up (what a mouthful), what is the actual "payoff" for refusing to trust someone just because they're playing it safe?
I haven't a clue. I'll probably end up trusting someone again and potentially mess it up, but life wouldn't be worth living without that kind of risk, would it? Right now, I'm leaning toward playing it safe, but that doesn't mean I want to become "cold." I don't want that at all; I wouldn't feel alive anymore.

Quincy:
They are inextricably linked; there's no separation, so you have to decide for yourself
and it reminds me of that old saying, "No regrets after the fact," right?
You actually enjoy making mistakes; it’s that process of exchange where both conditions aren't met (two, according to AP.).
That's exactly the issue: I love "making mistakes." 😁 🤣

😍

Quincy:
I honestly have no clue. I’ll probably just go out and trust someone again, only to end up screwing myself over, but hey—if you don't take those kinds of risks, what's even the point of living? Right now, I’m just playing it safe and keeping my distance, but that doesn't mean I want to become cold-hearted. I definitely don't want to go down that road, because then I wouldn't feel alive anymore.
So, can we all just agree that the exhaust is basically useless when it's freezing out?😛It’s actually a hair's breadth worse than... what was I saying? 🤔 Is he actually suggesting we just hand over our trust blindly to his opposites—like, without doing any actual due diligence or basic analysis?
And of course, there are consequences to consider, because you've finally realized that this side of things carries its own set of unintended side effects too.
I know you knew what was going on; you were just a little scattered.

Quincy:
The real issue is that I actually enjoy making mistakes. 😁 🤣
Then I don't see what the issue is, so why are you complaining? 🤷 🙄

lonegardener said:Personally, my skepticism is pretty evenly balanced between myself and everyone else. It just makes sense, doesn't it? You don't know anyone better than you know yourself, so you have plenty of reason to doubt your own motives just as much as you doubt others. 😬

"Worth it" is another one of those terms that means nothing without a personal value system behind it. 😍

Let me say it again: giving trust is much easier (at least for me) than receiving it. Earning someone's trust is a massive responsibility...

That’s what I was thinking, or rather... if you want to get technical... you seem more suspicious of yourself than of others, maybe just a tiny bit more... but anyway, that's beside the point.🙄

Quincy:
And honestly—doesn't that make sense? You don't know anyone as well as you know yourself, so you definitely have enough reason to doubt yourself just as much as you doubt anyone else.😬
Well, doubting yourself is fine; a certain amount of suspicion is actually healthy, you just have to find that "decent" line where it doesn't turn into total self-destruction.

Quincy:
'Worth it' is just another word that means nothing without a personal value system.😍
Did you miss the quotation marks around "worth it"?.... I assume I had my reasons.😠....🙏

Let's try this one more time: how much skepticism and lack of trust is too much?
It couldn't be simpler.🤷

Because it absolutely wrecks me when I can't trust someone, but it's just as bad when people don't trust me.
Doesn't that bother you?

Quincy:
To reiterate: giving trust is much easier (at least for me) than receiving it. Having someone's trust is a massive responsibility...
But isn't it also a huge responsibility to give your trust away? It's a responsibility to yourself; I don't see any difference here, since you aren't somehow less important than anyone else.🤷
But that's not what I meant, so forget it—clearly we're just talking past each other.🙄

Sean Cruz said:I face the same dilemma; I have no idea who I am supposed to be. Everyone seems to have their own grand theories on how one should conduct themselves, but I simply am who I am. I have no intention of undergoing any radical transformations. 😁
Quincy:
I judge based on my own experience. Since I have no interest in mystery, the easiest way to deceive me would be through a brilliantly performed display of "sincerity."

(The easiest way, perhaps, though still quite a challenge. 😍 )
Are you aware that you are posting this publicly? Someone might just take advantage of that. 😍 🤣
Quincy:
Ah, were you referring to the past? I didn't realize...
If it weren't in the past, I wouldn't even be able to write about it—I'd be eating my own heart out.

Quincy:
Certainly, but don't hold your breath. I'm not feeling particularly optimistic about it...
Perhaps Sandra Parker3 will find a solution. She is far more optimistic than we are. 😍

Why? Should I become more cautious? It seems being honest and open doesn't exactly pay off. Then again, I'm not sure I want to—or even can—change those traits.

Quincy:
You don't need to have absolute confidence in your own judgments; that's the answer. 👍
You can always mess up.
I think it’s actually healthier to be kinder to yourself—giving yourself some breathing room for mistakes, rather than constantly obsessing over being perfect.
But honestly, I’m just not good at it. 😠
🤣

We can't help ourselves, can we? I know I have the right to make mistakes, but I hate dealing with the fallout. 😁

Everyone trips up sometimes... it’s practically part of the job description. 😁

Well, I don't know about you... but I definitely am when it comes to lonegardener, mostly because he's such a cynical pessimist, though he’d probably describe himself differently. 🤷

Quincy:
Why? I guess I have to be more guarded, since it clearly doesn't "pay off" to be honest and open. Then again, I'm not even sure if I want to—or even can—change those parts of myself.
Oh right, you guys really aren't getting it; you're totally checked out... the emphasis was on the word "cold," which I tried my best to explain, even if I am a little scattered. 😍But I wasn't so incoherent that it should have been impossible to understand. 🙄

To put it briefly (ugh, what a word), how much does it actually "pay off" to withhold trust just because someone's blowing smoke in your face?

Regarding that last sentence... you should ask yourself why you don't want to change, there's always a reason.
But yeah, you pretty much answered it yourself below...

Quincy:
We just can't help ourselves, can we? I know I have the right to make mistakes, but I just hate dealing with the fallout. 😁
It's all connected, there's no separating the two, so you decide what you're going to do.
And honestly, it sounds a lot like that old saying, "no regrets after the fact," doesn't it?
You actually enjoy making mistakes; it's that whole process of trading things away without meeting both requirements (two, according to lonegardener).

lonegardener said:Hmm. Actually, I don't mind changing... maybe even making some radical shifts? The issue is that I really *dislike* about 90% of what people claim is the "ideal" way to be.😍 Don't you agree? Even if I were open to self-improvement, there is no way I’d want to morph into someone I currently find unappealing (to put it mildly).

You think one of the four or five people reading this is going to jump on that? LOL.
Besides, I don't have anything particularly valuable for someone to "exploit." If someone wanted to use this against me, it would just be out of pure, mindless malice, and I’m fairly confident I would have noticed that kind of character trait in them by now.😍

Do you mean less informed?🤣

Especially when you’re swimming in murky waters... 😬

Hehe, no... I'm plenty informed, I just stick to my guns and deal with the consequences of being open much easier than anyone else does, you know?

lonegardener said:🤷 I honestly can't wrap my head around it. To build up that level of trust over such a long period, only to suddenly realize someone was being two-faced the entire time? It’s infuriating. This wasn't some accidental slip of the tongue or a simple "oops" moment—this felt calculated. It feels like they went out of their way to be deceptive, specifically with the intention of causing harm.

Give it a shot. Honestly, I don't see what kind of "effect" there could possibly be from sharing secrets. The only real impact comes from the act itself. For it to actually work, the person you’re talking to just needs to meet two simple criteria: you have to genuinely care about them, and they have to be someone you can trust. I keep hearing examples that suggest the exact opposite. 😬

It’s entirely possible. There’s a massive difference between simply choosing not to share something and being deeply, fundamentally hurt when you eventually do. If you're feeling that level of pain, you can't just brush it off as "minor details I'd rather keep private." It clearly matters. And if it matters that much, you really have to be careful about who you trust. 🤷

Exactly. You have to be incredibly careful about who you trust with information that could potentially be used against you. 😍

I get the difference between a slip of the tongue and doing it on purpose
Actually, I’m not just sticking to the word "secret"—you see how I keep putting it in quotes, so let's expand the idea of hypocrisy... it isn't just about leaking "secrets," it feels a bit silly to say 😁
that you misjudged someone; after all this time, it happens, why wouldn't it? I accept that and don't view it as some massive catastrophe
what interests me more is the reaction that follows that realization
And honestly, this whole idea of building trust over a "long time" is debatable too, because where is that period when everything moves so fast?
But hey, anything is possible
I was just thinking, you know 🤔... I have someone I trust, though I won't claim that trust is absolute. We've established it, so to speak, but it’s not set in stone for me (can anything ever be?) and doubts creep in constantly, so I'd say... the thing is, this person doesn't get "offended," but then there are those who practically blow a whistle the second you even hint at a lack of trust
So now I'm wondering... is it a bigger mistake to withhold trust than it is to give it to the wrong person? 🤷
It’s like with the first one, you never really see the fallout, whereas the second one hits you right in the face and is very tangible, but what about distrust itself and how destructive can it actually be?
(just typing this out quickly...🙄)

Quincy:
Give it a shot. Because I don't see what kind of 'effect' there could possibly be from sharing secrets. The only effect lies in the act of sharing itself; the person you tell needs to meet just two criteria: you have to care about them (and vice versa), and they have to be reliable. I hear plenty of examples where that isn't the case. 😬
True, the effect is in the act of sharing, which means that's the priority... the sharing... there's satisfaction in that, and those two conditions become secondary
Then again, they say every pleasure comes with a price, so if you set those conditions aside, you pay for it—like choosing to take a risk consciously

And how big is the risk of staying silent? If those two conditions are met

Quincy:
Exactly—be careful who you confide in when you know the information could be used against you. 😍
The point is, there is no specific "topic" that can hurt you.
It’s the act itself that does the damage (once those 😛 conditions are met), if you catch my drift.

Sean Cruz said:I am fully aware of what you're saying. I've dealt with my fair share of hypocrites—from high school and college drama to those "friends" who would try to steal your boyfriend, 😁 all the way up to colleagues in the workplace. Usually, my gut instinct kicks in immediately; I can spot those types from a mile away because their patterns are so predictable. However, there are certain people you actually *do* let in. I don't make friends with just anyone, but then a betrayal happens. You realize someone was being calculated, mapping out your vulnerabilities just to exploit them and win you over. People like that aren't everywhere, but they're definitely present. How do you learn to trust again? Honestly, I'm already hard enough on myself as it is. 🤣 I know not everyone is like that—I have real, genuine friends—but once you've been burned, you tend to be wary of even the simplest things, right?

To me, the danger lies in that constant state of paranoia.

Quincy:
...And that’s the thing eating at me—how do I actually trust my own judgment again?
Look, you don't need total, blind faith in your own calls, and that's really the answer 👍
you can always mess up.
I honestly think it's more honest to give yourself some breathing room to be wrong rather than constantly second-guessing every single move you make.
Though, personally, I'm struggling to pull that off.😠

David Sanchez8 said:Agreed. But sometimes they play the part so well it's nearly impossible to see through the mask. You don't realize who they are until they twist the knife when your back is turned.

So, how do you deal with them?

Nothing, really. Why bother?
You just have to work on yourself so the blow doesn't hurt quite as much. If you spend all your energy trying to find some foolproof way to spot them, you're just wasting time and strength, and honestly, it still hurts just as bad if not worse.

Basically, the only way out is to build up some kind of resilience.
I'm also not big on being overly cautious, maybe just a little 🤔, because while you're busy building walls against potential hypocrites, you might accidentally shut out the genuine people too.

I usually start off open, then pull back a bit, and 🤷
but at least I feel like I'm not losing anything meaningful along the way
because... well, how else are you supposed to learn? If you don't get burned once in a while, you'll never know.

lonegardener said:Hmm, that’s a tough spot. Honestly... once you get burned, you’re definitely going to be more careful next time. If a secret is the kind of thing you just can't let slip, you aren't going to tell anyone unless they've earned your "total" trust. And that kind of trust? It has to be earned through years of being reliable. 🤷

Then again, there's always the possibility that some people just don't have secrets like that. 🙂

Total trust takes forever to build, and even then, there's no guarantee they won't stab you in the back anyway.
And "secrets" aren't always huge things; it depends on what we're talking about. What's the point of having a reliable person if there's nothing to confide in? I won't go into specific examples.

There's also the possibility of simply not having secrets like that. 🙂

But it's not even necessarily about massive secrets; it's just those little details you don't want to broadcast to the whole world, you know? You share them with certain people just because it feels right. It's impossible not to have those moments.

Then... all that's left is to "train" yourself to handle those heavy hits—like getting stabbed in the back—with a bit more grace and less pain.

I want to stay on good terms with them, and I don't go around spreading bitterness in my actual life. What irritates me is that they have zero desire to step outside their little bubbles and break the monotony. Since I hang out with them and cater to their preferences, I feel like I'm being forced to act the same way. (Yeah, yeah, I get it, I can change society, they aren't responsible for anything, etc...).

And please, what is so terrible about it? Where exactly am I seeing contempt in the second paragraph of the first post?

You’re basically a reflection of the crowd you run with.
If you weren't, you wouldn't be hanging out with them in the first place.
Guess what... you've got much deeper issues at hand, and you're just using this as an excuse to play the victim and take your frustrations out on everyone else.
Let me try to wrap this up...
more than just a couple—maybe three:

1. Sandra Parker3
2. Chloe Wilson46
3. jimmy jazz
4. Lola5
5. enky
6. Clipstone
7. KapetanDaka
8. žacko1
9. William

My bad if I included someone who popped in here but doesn't actually intend to stick around for the chat; that happens all the time.

Actually... 🤔 ... let's add two more:

10. florine
11. Sunlight

(Both of these users showed up in that newly created chat that got deleted immediately, so I'm assuming they're in. 🤷)

I almost missed them..

The moderator went ahead and locked "their" thread later on: Portraits of People Who Inspire You

I mean... she locked a thread where the last post was from April 17, 2009.
Am I seeing things, or did I totally misread the situation?
hiddenhound3 said:
Sandra Parker3 said:How much weight does your word actually carry, florine?

Honestly, after all those threats, I’ve totally lost any desire to ever open up another chat thread.

I'm just asking how much you value your own word,
but you respond with insults.

What kind of threats are you even talking about? Get a grip, florine, you aren't alone here—everyone is watching...

hiddenhound3 said:The spirituality subforum is undergoing some structural reforms.

Please make sure to pay attention to the new rules.

Not one single rule you listed is anything we haven't seen before, and nothing here has been violated that you, or any other moderator, couldn't have already addressed...

Anyway, you're clearly off-topic now.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand, and the subject is just the thread count—"more than 2 or 3 for chat," right?

There are other subforums without chats, and the philosophy section was without one for a while too. Instead of making a fuss, people just moved over to spirituality... you can do the exact same thing now, I don't see what the big deal is?! 🤷

The issue is that you shut down the chat (along with three other threads) for no apparent reason, and it's pretty obvious to read between the lines.
If by "no reason" we mean some sort of personal grudge, is that it, florine?

We aren't looking to migrate elsewhere; we want to see if your word is actually as "final" as you claim, and whether the arguments you used to close the chat (and those other three threads) actually hold water... because from where we're sitting, they don't.

And we want our "place under the sunlight" back, you know? People have already tried explaining this to you in other posts.

Just be patient while I finish the work I started, then we can discuss the chat.

There's really no point in discussing the chat because that's not how this works, is it, Florence? Why? Because you opened a new one just two days after shutting the old one down without waiting for our input, and then you just deleted it—do you actually have any idea what you're trying to achieve here?

Should we just sit here and take it, walk away, or are you finally going to admit you messed up?

I'm just saying that using blackmail, coercion, or whatever else isn't going to get you anywhere; it'll just create more chaos. I'll end up having even more work dealing with this small-town whining and it's only going to slow me down while I'm cleaning up the PDFs and getting the chat back online.

No, Florence, we’re actually starting to build a case to report you for an offensive post.

Go ahead, point out where the blackmail and coercion are.

Calling it "small-town whining" is just your way of saying that your conditions for reopening the chat
have been met.

Or did you change your mind?
Or is your word worth absolutely nothing?
Which one is it?

I've made my stance clear: there was far too much chatting and cluttering on the spirituality section. Once I see that isn't the sole purpose of this subforum, we'll open a dedicated chat thread.

You guys can hold out for a few weeks...

A chat thread is specifically *for* chatting; you can't really have "too much" of it, right?

If, in your opinion, there was too much chatting in threads like What kind of music do you listen to (you spiritual types🙂 , Spirituality through Film and Photography , Spirituality and Philosophy in Poetry clean them out of the chatters, and you'll see that you won't have any work to do and you can just reopen it.

Don't embarrass yourself by trying to cram every branch of art into one single category... you won't gain anything but total chaos. Leave spirituality to the people who actually care about it.
hiddenhound3 said:Once the chatters actually start engaging with slightly more serious topics (for instance, I don't recall Sandra Parker3 ever posting anywhere except in the chat or sharing pictures and stuff...

I did a little scrolling—just two pages, really—simply to get a feel for what qualifies as an "appropriate" topic based on what the moderator, the PDF file, is laying out here...

And then I hit the data:

The moderator, the PDF file, who’s busy calling people out for posting in "serious" threads... over the last 30 days, she has:
roughly 25 posts in her spirituality PDF, 13 of which were on those prescribed topics—you know, the ones she shut down for being "unworthy" or just "collector" material...

thanks
hiddenhound3 said:...Look, you chatty types need to chill out and go find yourselves some other little corner of the internet, because sooner or later, the spirituality discussions will come back.

How much weight do you actually put behind your promises, PDF file?

It’s all pretty simple: we aren't just being annoying for the sake of it regarding those "your" topics you present so graciously
but we're still trying to write stuff that's a bit more "soulful"... plus, we're the ones building the vibe that's been totally fine until now, so I don't get why that's bothering you 🤷
I can't believe I'm actually sitting here typing this out, but honestly, what was that even supposed to mean? Just one word and nothing else. Total waste of my time. kaže:
The moderator, Florine, thinks that PDF is getting way too cluttered with endless chatter and niche collector discussions, so she just locked those threads and started a fresh one. Now she’s basically begging everyone to keep it civil and cut out the insults, bickering, and trolling.

This is the thread where anyone actually interested in moving our spirituality discussions over to PDF should weigh in. It’s exactly what you laid out in your reasoning for locking this topic down.

So, I guess I'm concluding that you locking those other threads isn't directly related to this, though I have a feeling it’s going to be...

Look, if you’re going to shut down three separate threads just to merge them—without any actual explanation or logic—then why even bother? Especially when you close a thread like "What kind of music do you listen to (you religious types)" for no reason at all. 🙂She basically just defended herself by scrubbing all the trash posts from the board.
That’s highly debatable, honestly. You’re bringing up music linking like it’s some kind of rule, but there isn't a single mention of that anywhere, so why even bother...

So, if you closed three different threads just to merge them into one big chat, wouldn't you have needed to close the chat too? Makes zero sense.

It’s pretty obvious what happened here: they shut down the chat first, then moved on to the music, and only then did they deal with the last two topics.
Look, your reasoning just doesn't hold water.

Look, let's just get back to the heart of the matter here...

It only took about twenty posts before everyone started throwing insults, picking fights, and acting like provocateurs. Florine finally stepped in and shut it down, though—she realized this kind of drama is unnecessary because she wants the PDF spirituality content to actually promote some peace of mind.

There’s no thread here, but I’m making sure this is visible to the "powers that be." And honestly, if they think having enough people interested in chatting is a valid excuse to ignore us, they should go take a look at the posts in that controversial new thread they just nuked.
As far as I can tell, there was only one controversial post. If you thought it didn't belong, just issue the penalty and let's move on, right? Why delete an entire thread over a single post?
Here we go again... Look, there’s absolutely zero tolerance for insults, fighting, or unnecessary provocation here, whether we're talking about a brand-new thread or an old one. (Maybe one single exception if things get really heated, but that's it.)

When the chatterboxes actually decide to weigh in on something that matters for once (I can't even remember the last time it happened)... Sandra Parker3 Has she ever actually posted anything on any other thread besides the chat rooms and those picture collections? I can't be bothered to scroll through her entire post history to check, but if anyone could refresh my memory, I’d appreciate it. Maybe they'll finally consider starting a new chat.

Sandra Parker3 has commented on other threads too, but hey, you can't be expected to know everything, right?
It doesn't even matter.

It’s pretty ugly how you’re tearing down the whole "Spirituality through Film and Photography" topic like that.

This isn't just some casual hobby for me. I’ve genuinely poured my heart into this thread, and honestly, working on these photos has been a weirdly soothing, soul-enriching experience. So, seeing you try to trash it like this? It's pretty uncalled for.

If you're looking for that kind of deep dive, we have two entire PDF guides on the subject—one on holistic wellness and another on herbalism (and I pop in there myself from time to time).

Talking about what happened in the chat wasn't some grand performance, and honestly, I feel like this comment is just another way to belittle someone else's contributions
I already said it: just because it happened in the chat doesn't mean it isn't valuable...

And there are actually plenty of high-quality posts over there! It’s really nasty of you, Florine, to talk down to others like that; it's just low

Plus, there wasn't any fighting or bickering or anything like that, which makes this whole move even more out of line

The quality of the spirituality section in the PDFs has taken a serious hit, so I've decided to step in and fix it, and you guys can too.

We can't, though, since you went ahead and locked four threads that people actually care about
Bring them back, and you'll get that peace and quiet back in the spiritual section that we used to have
You aren't going to get better writing by using restrictions like these
Just a suggestion...
This isn't even the right thread. Why? The PDF chat is locked. Spirituality is already over. How? give it back I chat, therefore I am.??

So, apparently, we have ourselves a moderator. I honestly don't have the energy to get into this right now, but if we're talking about fluoride, I guess I'll say my piece. It’s just one more thing to worry about in a world that feels increasingly artificial, isn't it? She locked the chat with an explanation:

The chatroom's been on its way out for a while now.

When is it actually going to happen? Hardly more than a couple of people seem to care. We’re going to open up a new thread for some casual chatting.

See ya later. 👋

Here is the link to the original post.

So, since the moderator mentioned she’s planning to reopen the chat—which is honestly a great move—and laid out the specific rules for doing so, I actually applaud the way she handled it. There’s really no point in whining about the shutdown itself; I'm just trying to figure out the logistics. How exactly is Florine supposed to prove that all those requirements have been met? What’s the actual process for showing her we're ready to go? Looks like there are more than a couple of people interested in this. 🤷

Let me clarify things...

July 2, 2009. Out of nowhere, the moderator just slammed the door on the chat without so much as a single warning—but let’s not even get into whether she actually had a reason to do it.
If we can just fix the issue, then there's really no point in arguing over how many people are hanging out in this thread—especially since it’s just a casual off-topic chat meant for blowing off steam.

Either the same day—or maybe the next, my memory isn't exactly what it used to be—the moderator shut down the old thread using that same tired excuse and just opened a brand new one.

Fine by me, no big deal—let's just head over there.

It's gone. Just completely vanished.

Why am I even starting a thread here:

I don't see any other way to get an answer since my new thread just vanished into thin air, so I might as well mention it here: the exact same moderator was busy nuking three other active threads over on the Spirituality board at the same time. But whatever, let's just leave that aside for now.

Why me?

Just to get this out of the way, I’m posting this on someone else's behalf. A few. The people on this forum.

Look, I’m one of the people who spends the most time on this specific thread, so I honestly feel a bit stung right now. Even if it just looks like some mindless, casual chatting to outsiders, it would be pretty disrespectful to just sideline this topic. A lot of actual effort goes into these posts—there's genuine emotion involved too—and I don't see any reason why we shouldn't have a dedicated space for regular members and travelers who actually want to engage.

Look, I’ll say it one more time since there’s zero reason to keep this thread locked. I honestly have no clue what kind of "proof" the moderator is fishing for to show that her little rule about having at least three interested people has actually been met.

(p.s. If anyone’s actually interested, I figured I’d drop some links here to the other threads being closed over on the Spirituality boards:...) 2, 3, 4

Thanks.

Sacreus said:Of course I'm being hysterical; I've got this conditioned reaction to you stemming from some old argument ages ago that I can't even fully recall because I've pushed it out of my mind... 😍

Look, you should probably know by now that suppressing things doesn't work—it just leads to overreacting like I'm doing right now. 😁

I see you still have questions... do you want me to solve the whole mystery for you, or are we done? 😉

redharbor9 said:Yeah, typical. You're always the only one who sees things...

Nah, women don't recognize male faces faster than men, they just recognize them faster than male faces do...

Picture this being face recognition time... (these aren't actual stats, I'm just making a point so colour gets it)

Women spot a male face in 0.2 msec
Women spot a female face in 0.5 msec
Men spot a male face in 0.5 msec
Men spot a female face in 0.5 msec

Clear enough now? :histerija:

yeah, you're just such a sweetheart, as usual 🙄 🙂

Sacreus, there's really no need to go into hysterics; you've explained what everyone else already knew, they just didn't bother asking, okay?

And I actually edited my previous post to thank you 🙏 for those male statistics (without the ms), which you're only mentioning here for the first time

No, women don't recognize male faces faster than men; they just recognize female faces faster than male ones...

and faster than men, at least based on the examples you gave me to help me understand 😁

redharbor9 said:Look, if I say "people"—which covers everyone—and then women are the ones picking up on things faster, it’s obvious the effect just doesn't hit guys. Simple math. 🤷

And you could even conclude that... Women. If they recognize them faster or better, then obviously they were working with men too. If that weren't the case, I wouldn't even be bothering to argue about women—I'd just say male faces are easier to spot. Period.

I don't have any more to say on this. Period.
I'm never getting on your good side, am I? 😍

You're missing the point

I know exactly what "people" implies, but you're still only talking about women
I don't get why this isn't clicking for you 🤷

If women recognize male faces faster than men do, fine, that's settled

But what about the guys? Or put another way, how do they handle recognizing female faces? For crying out loud, am I the only one seeing this???

(from the post below)
redharbor9 said:Yeah.. Men and women were identifying gender from faces.. they show a face on the screen and the subject has to decide if it's male or female... and the data shows women are faster and more accurate at spotting male faces compared to female ones, while guys don't show any difference...

The second type showed that women are quicker and better at remembering male faces, men show no change...

Now for my senior thesis, it's showing the same thing again—faster and more accurate recognition of male faces—but I’ve got eight subjects who are mostly women.. the result totally clashes with what we expected from this specific phenomenon..

The study itself is complex and that's secondary, but in this case, it's everything.. the other stuff doesn't affect anything.. we're just trying to wrap our heads around this one phenomenon right now..

🙏

redharbor9 said:...so, what about processing speed and/or how accurate it actually is at recognizing female faces?

The title says it all. Throw out whatever ideas or theories you've got. 😍

Is it really that hard to say if this same "study" was done on men and what their results were, especially since you mentioned "people..." earlier?
I mean, what happened with the male data? Or do you honestly think those results don't matter when explaining the first part? If so, you're leaving me totally confused here...

redharbor9 said:Look, let me break down how this works..

They show people pictures of faces and they have to guess the gender.. and turns out women are actually faster and more accurate at spotting male faces...

redharbor9 said:I don't get it... faster than what? 😕

When I say they spot men faster, I'm talking about the actual gap in reaction time when identifying male vs. female faces..

The fact is, the phenomenon is real, but nobody has come up with a legit explanation for it yet..

you aren't making any sense at all
are we talking about a group of women being faster at identifying men, or just that in a "mixed group," women pick up on male faces quicker?

and what about men—what do they spot faster? male or female faces?
