Here is what happens: high voltage and extreme heat burn out the connections on the chip itself. These traces are incredibly fragile. There are many of them, mostly handling power delivery, but they are all weak and eventually fail.
When half of those connections snap, the card might still function if you don't push it too hard. But as temperatures rise, the gap between the chip and the board widens, making things worse.
That is my only logical conclusion.
3DMark explicitly states they offer no warranty for its use. This isn't a joke. I wouldn't dream of testing a single card with 3DMark. Honestly, software like this should be banned; even some technicians don't realize how much damage it causes. High-end GPUs are expensive. Why play games with them?
People try 3DMark just once and end up killing a card that could have lasted years.
There are idiots who run 3DMark for hours and somehow survive, but you can't count on luck. It's unpredictable.
Some people claim they can fix them, but it requires specialized tools and specific materials. Some even resort to putting the card in an oven for 10 to 30 minutes to "bake" the capacitors. Sometimes it works temporarily, but more often than not, it just ruins the hardware further.

This halo protection thing is a pretty ugly addition. Honestly, I’m inclined to believe that in a few years they’ll just seal the cockpit shut entirely, and then NASCAR will be officially screwed.

The issue is actually with the SATA controller on your motherboard. You aren't going to see any speed improvements on that specific board, no matter what you do.

An NVIDIA GeForce GT 730? It’s cheaper, and you can just pair it with an identical one integrated into the processor.

For instance, KB 3086255 basically kills the ability to launch any newly installed software—even the legitimate stuff. I’m guessing you might be running into similar issues with some of these updates too.
I’m starting to seriously consider making the jump to Linux...

First thing you need to do is check what the GPU manufacturer actually recommends for power.

I'm pretty sure that TDR failure stands for some kind of timeout detection and recovery issue or something along those lines. Basically, the driver is acting up. I ran into a similar headache with my NVIDIA card and tried everything to fix it... ended up just swapping out the GPU entirely to call it a day.

Mixing St. John's Wort oil with Gavez works wonders...
