Richard Lewis16 said:I mean, honestly, if a neighbor leaves their trash bags out, they’re just as much in the wrong as someone illegally parking all over the place... Sure, it’s technically a violation, but at the end of the day, that sidewalk belongs to them just as much as it does to anyone else's...
The best move would be for Code Enforcement to actually do their job for once and just install some bollards so people can walk on the sidewalk without having to dodge everything...
I couldn't agree more. However, if they go that route, the city needs to provide parking for the thousands—maybe even tens of thousands—of cars currently parked all over town. This wasn't planned out properly.
On topic: apparently, the matter is settled. It just took sending an email to the right person.
We’re talking about one of those cramped, one-way residential streets in a neighborhood like Brooklyn where there aren't even official parking spots marked. Instead, everyone just parks on the sidewalk. It’s technically illegal, but since there’s zero space anywhere else, the city basically turns a blind eye.
Since there are clearly more cars than actual street capacity, some people have started placing all sorts of junk—sticks, crates, trash cans—on the sidewalk just to reserve a spot. When I have nowhere else to park, I flat-out run over their little obstacles, but let's be real, that isn't a long-term solution.
But here’s the real kicker: I’ve called Code Enforcement multiple times and sent plenty of emails. They actually had the audacity to respond once, claiming they sent someone out to the street, saw the situation, and told the residents to clear the sidewalk. That is a complete lie. If someone left an obstacle out, it means nobody was actually there to see it. On top of that, about a week ago, some guy dumped roughly 30 bags of construction debris right on the sidewalk in front of his fence, effectively hijacking two "parking" spots. I warned the authorities about it, but nothing. Not a peep. By the way, those bags are still sitting there.
Question: Who do these people actually answer to? Is there someone I can contact to actually motivate them to do the jobs they are being paid for? Or has this country become such a joke that everyone in charge just laughs in our faces when we report these things?
ps—I’m not some bitter old man sitting at home all day just looking for things to complain about. But when I get home from work, I shouldn't have to deal with crushing sticks or moving random junk left behind by uncivilized idiots trying to claim public property as their own.
I don't have kids yet, so I haven't dealt with those kinds of headaches 😁
Thanks for all the input, everyone. That suggestion from hollowmason64 actually sounds like a solid plan—or at least a decent attempt—so I think I’ll give it a shot. I'm out of town right now so I can't say what the current scene looks like, but I'll be back in a few days. We'll see if my plan actually works or if it's a total disaster, lol
I honestly don't care if people find out I was the one who called the cops, but what you just said—it’s useless. Sure, it might solve things for one night, but come tomorrow, we're right back where we started. I have zero issues calling them every single night if I know I'm in the right. They aren't supposed to have that special permit to operate past midnight, but frankly, I have no clue where to find the actual documentation on that.
Besides, I don't see the point in reporting them to the inspectors for blatant violations of the rules. The owners are elderly lawyers, and from what I can tell, they seem pretty tight with the folks over at City Hall.
I’m not entirely sure which sub I should be posting this in, so I’ll just drop it here. If the mods think this belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it...
Basically, state law says bars have to close by midnight, but local city council decisions—usually with the blessing of the Chamber of Commerce—can push those hours back.
What I want to know is where (and if) I can find out the exact legal operating hours for a specific establishment, and what requirements they actually have to meet to get permission for those extended hours.
Here’s the issue: the bar right outside my window stays wide open until well past 1:00 AM. To make matters worse, you've got half-drunk bartenders hanging around afterward, rambling about "intellectual" topics and dragging chairs across the floor for another hour or two. Talking to them is useless; they have zero memory of the night before and just repeat the same nonsense the next day. If I’m going to call the police, I want to be absolutely certain I’m in the right.

That is definitely not enough. I dealt with the exact same issue (and honestly, I’m still fighting it). I’ve been 6'3" my whole life and used to hover around 165-175 lbs. I’ve always been an active guy—basketball, free diving, running, hitting the gym—so I have some muscle, but I could never break past 175 lbs. It wasn't until about 7 or 8 years ago that I realized my diet was the culprit. Sure, maybe my metabolism slowed down a bit since I'm 37 now, but mostly it was how I ate. I used to be incredibly inconsistent with meals. Lately, I make sure I get at least three heavy meals a day plus 2 or 3 smaller snacks. I don't use mass gainers, but about 8 years ago, I used Prosor to put on weight. I had actually dropped below 150 lbs after having colon surgery. Just don't overdo it, or you'll end up with diarrhea. 😁 Right now, I'm sitting at about 200 lbs and I still look pretty lean, so I'm steadily increasing my caloric intake and seeing slow progress. You should try that approach too.
Michelle Cook83 said:Bradley Adams34, every medication carries risks. Side effects usually show up within three to four days. What you're experiencing sounds like something else entirely, unrelated to the Ciprofloxacin. Finish your course and follow what your urologist tells you. There isn't a direct substitute for this drug, only modifications with a broader antibacterial spectrum.
The side effects *did* happen within a few days. I started taking it last Thursday evening. On Sunday afternoon, I was playing basketball, and I don't recall taking any hits to the knee or landing weirdly. I went home feeling fine, but then when I went to squat, I heard this popping sound—louder than the usual joint cracking—and then my knee just went cold and hurt like hell. To be fair, it's getting better every day, so I can walk almost normally now, but there is zero chance of me running anytime soon.
Also, I did some pull-ups the day before yesterday (didn't overdo it), and I'm still dealing with muscle soreness today that lasted way longer than usual. I don't know, maybe I'm just being paranoid at this point.
Anyway, I've decided to just finish the treatment. To hell with it.
Thanks for the reply. I’m not taking anything else alongside the Ciprofloxacin, just some Linex probiotic. Is there any alternative to Ciprofloxacin? The diagnosis is a UTI.
I started taking this antibiotic a week ago, and I’m stuck with it for another three weeks. My urologist told me straight up that I could keep exercising—just maybe dial back the intensity a bit. Well, after a game of basketball the other day, I felt this sharp, intense pain in my knee. It still hurts, and I can't even bend it all the way right now. I’ve been digging around online and keep running into these articles claiming this medication is incredibly dangerous. Is there actually some truth to this, or is it just more media sensationalism?
It’s not even a major repair job, so there is absolutely no excuse for such sloppy work. Sure, there are several things that need fixing, but they’re simple tasks. To be fair, he did tell me upfront that he was backed up and I’d have to wait a bit, but he never mentioned waiting an entire month. Honestly, I’m avoiding going back there because I know my own temperament—things could escalate quickly, and I’d much rather look into my legal options first. One angle could be reporting him for working under the table. My cousin actually went to him recently and didn't get a single receipt. Realistically, almost everyone in this business does it, so I don't know if threatening him would even scare him, but if I can't find another way out, I might just go that route.
@ hollowtrucker77 - I’ve made up my mind: either he fixes this properly, or we handle this a different way. Something's gotta give 😁. Besides, I’m not about to waste any more time or money towing the car to some other mechanic. Since I have a second vehicle, I'm not exactly in a bind. If he had just been honest from the start and said the car wouldn't be ready for three months, I would have said fine. But this kind of stalling is totally unacceptable.
About three weeks ago, I dropped my car off at a private repair shop for some work. Since then, the mechanic has gone completely radio silent. I’ve tried calling him three or four times; I finally managed to get him on the line once, and he promised to call me back the very next day with a list of parts I needed to pick up. Since that moment, nothing. Not a word. He isn't even picking up my calls anymore.
Is there any consumer protection law that actually applies here? I didn't leave my vehicle with some guy working out of his backyard shed; I left it with a registered LLC that, in my opinion, should be held to certain professional standards. In a civilized society, this is how things ought to work.
What I really want—aside from the guy actually doing the job—is to have some actual leverage when I show up at his shop in person and tell him, "If you don't finish this work as we agreed, I'm reporting you to the Better Business Bureau and the state authorities."
Let’s be clear: I have no intention of actually filing a report. I just want to use that threat to scare him enough to make sure he does his job properly.
Alright, I just dug up some info confirming the motherboard is compatible with a 2.3GHz processor, and apparently, it’s swappable. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Noteboo...de/td-p/560985
I also spotted a listing for a similar laptop equipped with an SSD, so I’m assuming they can be paired up. Though, I’ve read stories about people running into compatibility headaches, so I won't hold my breath.
As for the RAM, I am absolutely planning on boosting that in the next few days. Will this single upgrade actually make any noticeable difference in performance? Most of the time, I just use this laptop to download games via torrents and watch them. 😁
Thanks for the reply. What’s the deal with those 5300 and 6400 speeds? Does the specific rating of the RAM I install actually matter? Forgive me, but as you can tell 😁 , I'm clearly no expert on this stuff. And one more thing—my processor is running at 2.0 GHz (that old Turion TL-60)... would I see any real difference if I swapped it out for something slightly beefier, like a TL-66 or a 68?
I'm also looking into installing an SSD, because whenever I try to watch anything remotely demanding (like high-res MKVs), the audio gets out of sync and the video lags behind.
Which of these upgrades should I prioritize to fix that lag issue first?
Greetings. I have a question regarding the maximum RAM capacity for this specific build. I stumbled upon some info online claiming the limit is 4GB, but I can't tell if that’s the total capacity or the limit per individual slot. Also, what specific specs should I be obsessing over if I want the fastest possible memory without causing a compatibility nightmare with the rest of my hardware? Everything else is standard. For now, 😁
It’s fine, provided you're transporting someone with limited mobility, or if you manage to charm your way past the porter—though I don't see any harm in stepping out for a minute or two if your health allows it.
The entire street leading up to the Mayo Clinic and all the surrounding blocks are nothing but a massive parking lot. Honestly, it just depends on what time of day you show up if you want to find a spot. I believe it's about $1.00/hour, but let's be clear: if they haven't even cleared the snow off the spaces—meaning you can't even see the painted lines—then you shouldn't have to pay a dime for parking.
I exported my bookmarks, and I did the same with my emails, but I’m staring at this Outlook backup file and it's only 265kb. That seems ridiculous. Is it actually going to pull all my emails back in, or am I just staring at an empty file?
Oh, one more thing—can I boot Windows from a USB stick, or should I stick to using a DVD?
edit: Fixed the Outlook issue. I missed a checkbox. Absolute amateur move on my part.😁
Since I’m likely one of the last holdouts still clinging to Windows XP, it’s finally time to pull the trigger on an upgrade. I’ve decided on Windows 7 Ultimate, but I’m stuck on whether I should go with the 32-bit or 64-bit version. My machine is running an AMD Athlon 3000 (2.01 GHz) 64-bit with 2GB of RAM... what do you all recommend?
Furthermore... how can I save my Firefox bookmarks and my Outlook emails?
Also, I have two drives, but one is split into two partitions. Is it better to format the entire partition (like the C: drive) before starting the installation, or can I just move my essential files over to the D: or E: drives and overwrite XP?
