Mirko is the GOAT, but... in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Heh, looks like he missed the mark...
And maybe his eye too, since he covered the right orbit...

Someone gave me a solid recommendation on the Crocop vs. Silva thread... there’s this little utility that converts just about any format into whatever you need. You should grab it; it’s excellent.
Weekend is almost here ;) in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
It was honestly satisfying to watch him dismantle Silva like that; I can't stand that guy...

Respect. I haven't seen anyone pull off a beatdown quite like that before. Absolute madness.
What do you guys think of this guy? in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·

Yeah. Let's get it moving.
🤣

Give me something funny to read; I've been studying all day.

Seriously though, lately I’ve been leaning more toward full-contact sports rather than traditional martial arts—largely due to some real-life influences and a few people on this forum. There’s much less guesswork and hearsay involved. But regardless of what you choose, keep one thing in mind:

With Aikido, you can find great recreation and social circles, and you might achieve that sense of inner peace and calm you're looking for. You can find pretty much everything else you mentioned, except for one thing: the actual ability to defend yourself against an attacker.

I have much stronger opinions regarding Ninjutsu, but I don't know anything about Wing Chun, so I'll stay quiet on that. 👍

👍

Regarding pure self-defense: philosophy won't help you, other than perhaps maintaining situational awareness—being mindful of your surroundings, the people around you, and avoiding potentially volatile areas or conflicts before they start.
If someone intends to crack your skull, the only thing that will stop them is you cracking theirs. If you can't avoid the confrontation, you have to be brutal. Forget all this talk about redirecting energy, using levers, or dodging; especially if adrenaline or fear freezes you up.

I’d go with Ninjutsu. 😉

Good grief, you sound like you actually believe the blue lane is better than the white one.😉
Just go buy him the club logo, some patches, and stickers; you don't have a real gi without all that, haha.

Put some Rocky soundtracks on
Or the Blade soundtrack—that’s what really gets me fired up.

Is that actually kung fu? 😕

Kickboxing is more limited than Muay Thai—knees and elbows are off the table. If you want pure striking power, go with MT.
I don't know what you're expecting, but you aren't going to pick up any real knowledge overnight. We had a group of 25 people starting out here once, and 15 of them quit because they couldn't grasp that you don't just become a samurai in two months. It starts with conditioning and the basics—stuff that most beginners find incredibly boring.

Personally, I’m definitely leaning toward Thai boxing because of the fighting style and the variety of techniques they use.
Kyokushin karate isn't bad either. Since those guys just explained it...😉

My take is that you should try everything in life once🙂 🙂
Rice... 🤣
Anyway, enough off-topic talk

ruggedfalcon2 said:There are plenty of tall, fit women from China🙂 but I haven't really seen much in the way of curves.😁 Apparently, there's a massive obsession with larger breasts over there right now—there's even this gel people rub on themselves that supposedly makes them grow like crazy,😁 though word is the side effects are pretty nasty.😢 ☕

What, they start growing beards?🤣
I've seen some attractive ones at car shows, but I get the feeling they’d just break in my hands because they look like little dolls.😳
Supposedly, they're quite trendy with japanka and tend to look toward the West; I saw a documentary about it on TV once...

Are there any attractive, tall Chinese women with curves, or does a japanka like that only show up once in a blue moon? 😁

What’s the point with Kwon...? I mean, you're only carrying him out of some sense of outdated "tradition," aren't you?

Jerry Thompson6 said:I need an aikido hakama. And I don't want to order it online; I’d rather just walk into a shop, pay, and take it home. Is there any other store besides Kwon? What’s wrong with getting one at Kwon? (Ordering online would take two months to arrive... I've already been waiting three months for a shinai from eKend.)

What makes you think the quality isn't there? Where exactly would it wear out? From what I understand, you aren't using it for any specialized purpose (like using the lower part of a kimono for something specific, for instance).

I think the guys are right; whatever you decide to take, it won't be a total bust.
