Smoking and oral health in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Harold Anderson3 said:Yeah, that’s nasty.
I'm tossing my cigarettes in the trash right now. ☕

Just Google "smoking and oral health."
Smoking wreaks havoc on every aspect of oral health—and yes, "oral" is a perfectly valid medical term, whether you believe it or not. It leads to compromised wound healing, increased risks of periodontitis, inflammation around implants (peri-implantitis), and various mucosal issues, including tumors.
Incognito Appliance System - portable device in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Eric Newman4 said:Fixed orthodontic appliances from the renowned 3M are among the most technologically advanced solutions in modern orthodontics. Unlike the vast majority of other braces, the Incognito system is customized for every single patient—each bracket is made specifically for an individual tooth, and every wire is tailored to precise phases of treatment.

Has anyone here actually used this specific system?

My take: It’s harder to manage certain dental anomalies compared to traditional braces, it’s difficult to keep clean, it interferes with speech, irritates the tongue, and is incredibly expensive. Personally, I don't see any real advantage.

Yesterday I got a notification saying a new version of the mobile app would be ready sometime today. They even included a link to installation instructions since it's apparently "something special."
The new version hit the Apple Store today, though it claims it was released on February 2nd, 2014!?
Now those instructions have vanished.
I started the update, so now I'm just sitting here waiting to see what happens...
So, the app installed fine, but it won't accept my current PIN, and it isn't asking for any setup info either.
What am I supposed to do now?

A contact at the firm told me they completely botched this update—it was poorly put together, which is why it's failing for everyone. Word reached the Board of Directors, and heads are reportedly rolling. They’re claiming everything will be fixed by Monday.😉
Quick question in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Jerry Garcia29 said:About 10 days after sitting down, I noticed blood on my clothes. It gets itchy sometimes, so I end up
scratching it. It’s actually painful, though nothing extreme. It isn't right on the anus—it's slightly above—so I wouldn't say it's hemorrhoids, but I can't be sure.

Hey, if you take a second to actually read where you are, you'll realize you've wandered into the dentistry section, which doesn't really deal with hemorrhoids. Give it ten seconds and find the correct health subforum.

Carl Collins9 said:Does anyone have recommendations for an orthodontist in Indianapolis or Washington, D.C.? I’m turning 17 soon and want to get my teeth straightened while I still can.
I'm also wondering if orthodontists follow specific criteria to decide whether braces are covered by insurance or if they're out-of-pocket (this would be for fixed braces)?

You've posted this in the right thread for these questions, so I'll have to close this one...
Hey everyone! in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Please move your question to the appropriate thread—like dental nerves or cavities. It’s not particularly helpful to ask here when you really need to see a dentist instead of a forum. 😉
Looking for a super patient dentist in the Seattle area in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Hi everyone, please take a look at the thread pinned at the top of the page—I’m looking for... That's where these types of inquiries should be posted. Thanks.
Tooth Decalcification: What are my options? in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
It’s fine to eat, you just shouldn't overdo it, suck on things constantly, or let food sit in your mouth too long—the same rule applies to drinks.
Ceramic inlays vs. onlays: What's the difference? in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Beyond the materials and the manufacturing process, you really need to focus on the expertise of your dentist and lab technician—that’s what actually dictates the outcome. The choice of material isn't determined by how close it sits to the pulp. If everything is done correctly, ceramic is significantly more durable and long-lasting than composite. Personally, I’d recommend IPS e.max.
Tooth Decalcification: What are my options? in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Cut back on the soda and acidic drinks—or at least don't let them sit in your mouth for long. Also, skip brushing immediately after drinking them. Instead, pick up some GC Tooth Mousse and use it to coat your teeth...
My dentist has no idea what they're doing in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Could you please post the question in the "fillings" section? Thanks.
Single tooth dental implant? in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Paul Sullivan76 said:I just want to know if this is even possible. Once I have a solution, I’ll post it here for anyone else who actually wants to solve their problem. Just saying "post a photo" isn't helpful enough for me..

If it weren't possible, I wouldn't be asking for a photo. 😉 Besides, I couldn't care less about your face or your "privacy." I only need to see your bite and jaw alignment to give you a more precise answer regarding which tooth we're talking about. There are options; there are removable appliances you can wear for short periods to fix simpler issues without needing full braces—think Invisalign or clear aligners.

Come on, post the picture please...
Root canal extraction! in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
We already have threads covering basically everything—wisdom teeth, extractions, oral surgery, you name it—so let's not duplicate efforts. Get an X-ray, take the antibiotics the dentist prescribed, and that's about it. Your only other option is to jump straight into surgery to have them pulled immediately.
Thanks.

Stationary" cavities? in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
If a filling has a crack in it, it needs to be replaced. After ten years, it’s likely reached the end of its lifespan anyway. You can't truly see the extent of the damage until it's removed; it could just be some minor surface decay at the top, or it could be a deep cavity underneath.
Stationary" cavities? in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Let’s say you had some initial decay in a tooth fissure, but then your hygiene improved and the cavity stalled out. If it's very shallow and just looks like a small brown spot now, it might stay that way indefinitely, or it could potentially reactivate down the road. It isn't an emergency to have it cleaned immediately, but you should definitely keep an eye on it over time.
Temporary tooth fix in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
That really depends on the condition of your other teeth. You might be able to hold steady for a while using a temporary filling, provided it seals the gaps against the gum line effectively enough to prevent food from getting stuck. If you need an aesthetic solution for social situations, you could always look into a small partial denture to fill the space until you've saved up for a permanent implant or a bridge.
DIY teeth whitening gone wrong in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
The Chamber exists, but it doesn't seem to care. We’ve dealt with these types of salon scams and deceptive offers before, so our role remains the same: keeping the public warned about these frauds. Take a look at the Bleaching thread...
