Something aggressive, a kick, Thai style... 🙂

If you're curious, go ahead and drop some details about how they operate over there. I'm asking because of that "brutal" label they've been given.

Wow... go ahead, name one. I'm actually curious! Are you thinking about private tutoring, like having your own personal trainer?

Drop the link so we can get a laugh; what was that one called—the hooligan coach...?

I think you’ll find Genbukan stays closest to traditional ju-jitsu. Everything else I've seen is mostly just karate and judo mixed with some "forbidden" techniques.
I don't know what you look like, but—no offense intended—is being attractive just about getting a breast augmentation to you?
Why stop there? You might as well look into lip fillers, maybe a nose job... and a Hollywood smile wouldn't hurt either. (Kind of like that girl who was recently bragging about how her mom is footing the bill for cosmetic surgery for her 18th birthday)
Because apparently, if you don't have a certain chest, you aren't attractive. It seems superficiality is the only quality valued in a young woman; why would anyone look at anything else? Hold on a second. Think about it... try investing that money more wisely and save yourself the future heartache.
I'm sure you're a beautiful woman with plenty of talent and potential... just focus on working on yourself from the inside out. 😉

Where's the fight happening, over at the high school gym?

The new marketing looks solid; you can tell they put some real work into it. I just find the label "new" combat self-defense a bit funny. If it’s essentially the same thing as the ISF, what’s the point?
p.s. That clip where he tosses the bike at the attacker was pretty clever. I wouldn't go throwing my Trek at some random idiot, though. 🙂

Do some research, watch a few clips on YouTube, and then let me know what you think. I’m curious to see your takes. 😁

That said, I've seen some smaller guys (some of whom are active here 😍) handle heavy weapons with total ease.

Fair enough, but let's be realistic and set aside warhammers and other exotic gear.🙂
Boxing is definitely the way to go.🙏 😂

If someone wants to train with a Japanese staff measuring over five feet, why send them downtown to work on sixty-centimeter Filipino stick-fighting segments? And why would weapon proficiency have anything to do with their physical build?

I'm not really into katanas, but logically speaking, they just don't seem practical outside of movies. If you try to swing a piece of metal that's 70cm long like that, you lose all your power and maneuvering room. They're designed for a specific type of use; it's not like a 10cm pocket knife you can just handle however you want.

What do you mean by "actual"?
They protect teeth from fractures and impact, cushion trauma to soft tissue (lips, cheeks, and gums), and reduce the force transferred to the jaw joint and brain—essentially preventing or mitigating concussions and potential jaw injuries...
All of this depends heavily on the quality of the guard.

Unfortunately, those kinds of injuries happen. My fighter truly didn't intend for that to occur, and he felt terrible about the whole situation afterward.

Understood. Things happen; sometimes it just sucks. 😢

Since we're on the subject, I’ll give some general advice regarding mouthguards:
The gold standard—and the most expensive route, costing roughly $83 or more—is getting custom-made guards from a dentist. These consist of two or three layers of high-grade material. They are reinforced at critical impact points and are perfectly anatomical to the individual. Because they fit the teeth so precisely, breathing remains easy.
Unlike the "boil-and-bite" versions, you don't have to worry about a poor fit where you end up biting down unevenly or too hard, which ruins the protection and makes breathing difficult. Don't even bother with those cheap, mass-produced ones; they're garbage.

For perspective, a metal-ceramic bridge to replace a lost tooth costs about $433 per unit. You'd need three units. The best option, an implant, runs around $1,000. And that's not even mentioning the pain, the constant doctor visits, surgeries, loss of function, aesthetics, and long recovery times...
Stay safe out there. 😉

I'll add my congratulations to the pile as well.

One guy actually got disqualified because he spent too much time playing games with his opponent before finally landing an illegal strike that knocked his teeth out.👎

A buddy of mine from college had a rough day at school. This guy absolutely dismantled him—split lip, shredded tissue, five stitches, and a fractured single root. Honestly, the tooth is so loose you could almost knock it out just by looking at it. Hopefully, they can save it. Either way, he’s in for a hell of a time over the next few months.
I didn't get a chance to catch up with him because I was tied up with work. But if he’s saying he took that hit while pulling a lever on his leg—even if the shin guard actually cracked—I have some questions. From a professional standpoint, I’m curious: what kind of shin guards are your guys using, or what do fighters in general typically wear? And how do they actually feel about them? Are we talking about those cheap "boil and bite" ones you pick up for a few bucks, or something more substantial?
Thanks.

Most people only act this way because they’re being difficult; maybe he'll get over himself once he realizes how awkward he's being.
I'd suggest finding a dentist who actually has the patience for this. You need someone who can spend a few sessions just talking and building rapport without even picking up a tool. Getting him comfortable with the process is key—the right approach works wonders. A good dentist might also suggest some mild sedation to take before the actual procedure starts.
Beyond that, general anesthesia is no small matter.

Yeah. On top of everything else, I think some of the older generations are still stuck on that old-school socialist mindset where almost everything is supposed to be "free." That might be driving some of these unrealistic expectations.

Edward Sanchez72 said:nobody can stay afloat just by billing for white fillings $6.75 because you have no idea what the actual procurement cost for those materials is.

True, but here is a quick observation—there is a catch. When you look at the patient demographic outside of major cities, like in some rural community health centers, it becomes obvious why most dentists there struggle to even cover their basic costs. $33 Sometimes they aren't even clearing $50. And that’s not even mentioning routine stuff like scaling or fluoride treatments, which in a city would go for $67 easy.
Then there is the brilliant Medicare system where the more you produce, the less profit you actually see 🙄. Consequently, you end up surviving on a handful of "wealthier" patients who can afford higher-end prosthetics. Naturally, you won't be performing every procedure with Gradia and a Treasury bond; depending on the patient, you'll opt for something more budget-friendly—an older generation of adhesive and composite where the kit costs $333 instead of 400. Sure, the cheaper option is weaker, but... you get what you pay for. If you follow standard clinical protocols, the results will still be perfectly fine.
That is my take on it. 🙂

QUESTION; I have a friend who just started college and moved to the Vrbane area. He’s looking for a place to train, but he doesn't have a car. What’s within a reasonable distance? There's City-ryu over by Lake Jarun. If I remember correctly, they offer some kind of kickboxing there too?
