I just wish they’d fight hard instead of basically throwing in the towel after 20 minutes against France—if they just give it their all and leave everything on the court, I guess nobody could say anything bad, even if they end up losing
Hey everyone, I was wondering if you tech enthusiasts could give me your thoughts on my PC setup—I picked everything up back in June 2011 from Micro Center
GPU: Gainward GTX 570 GS, 1280 MB CPU: Intel i5-2400 1155, 3.1 GHz, 7 MB cache CPU cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 RAM: 8 GB G.Skill Ripjaws X Series, DDR3 1600 MHz, 2x4GB kit HDD: 1000 GB Western Digital Caviar Blue, Sata3, 32 MB cache, 7200 RPM + 500 GB Samsung Spinpoint F3, SATA, 16 MB cache, 7200 RPM—so about 1.5 TB total storage Motherboard: Asrock P67 PRo3, iP67 Case: LC Power PRO-919B Aequitas, Mid Tower, black (transparent left side) PSU: Scythe Stronger 700 W, SPSN-070, 140 mm fan Plus two extra fans—one Scythe and one Sharkoon
Everything runs perfectly smoothly—I haven't really run into any issues at all, and I guess I’ve been a bit obsessive about maintenance... as you can probably tell by all the extra fans and cooling, though maybe I overdid it a little because I had this whole phobia after my old rig used to overheat constantly about ten years ago
I've been putting together a PC build I’d likely pull the trigger on right before Christmas—I have the funds now, but I'm thinking maybe the holiday sales will be better. My main question is where to shop for parts; I keep checking out Newegg, which seems to have the best selection and pretty decent prices, so I wanted to get your take—should I buy from there or is there a reason not to?
The parts:
Intel Core i7-6700 4 core (Octo Core) CPU with 3.40 GHz, Boxed with fan - $350 Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3-EU Limited - $155 Samsung SSD 850 evo 500GB - $190 Seagate Barracud ST3000DM001 3TB, 7200U/min, SATA3, 3.5" - $100 Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4 2666MHz 16GB (2x8) - $115 Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 ti gaming G1 6.0 - $770
That brings the total to about $1,680 (roughly $67), though I still need a power supply and a case—I haven't really decided on those yet, I guess.
One more thing—I actually started a thread a few months back about a $10,000 build, and you guys gave me some great advice then. I hope it's okay that I'm starting a fresh thread since my budget has shifted a bit... it should be fine, right?

I tried that immediately—but nothing changed, I guess.
Things are getting pretty messy here—it’s kind of a disaster, honestly. Like, renaming a Word doc is fine, but whenever I try to rename programs or folders, things just go sideways. Instead of changing the file I actually selected, it somehow renames a totally different one... so then I end up with two files that look identical, and when I try to delete one, the system won't let me. Plus, some of my files lost their icons entirely—they just look like broken uninstalled apps now. I have no idea how I managed to mess things up this badly?
My smart sister was messing around on my computer and tried to rename just one folder—but she ended up renaming everything instead... oops. I guess there might be a quick or easy fix for this?
Has anyone maybe had some experience with MVP's proteins? I've heard they're actually really good and that you get a great bang for your buck—has anyone tried them?
I saw that mus is playing a show in Washington, D.C., and I was wondering about the ticket situation—like, do you just grab them online? I tried searching for it here in the States, but I keep getting hit with these random international sites that make zero sense to me. If anyone has dealt with this kind of thing before, I'd love some help—thanks! 👍

Maybe it's a Seagate drive—I guess I should probably double-check that first. If you've got a three-year warranty—and if it's less than three years old—you should probably just reach out to wherever you bought it—I guess. 😢
Not that one—my warranty on this one actually expired about a month ago, I guess.
Benjamin King2 said:Maybe have someone take a look... I was checking out that thread you started when you were picking out your build—did you end up going with an SSD and SATA combo, or just two SATA drives?
I didn't grab an SSD back then—just went with a Samsung F3 Spinpoint—so I guess I'll just wait a bit until SSD prices drop a little. I actually just swung by Best Buy to have them check things out, and here's the deal: my old drive is a Seagate 1.5 TB 7200, and it seems like they're known for dying after maybe two years, or even sooner (at least this specific series, in my opinion). It looks like when Windows pulled down those updates, it might have grabbed some new firmware too, which probably killed the drive. We tried putting the hard drive in another PC, but it ran into the same issue I had during bootup—it just hangs on that black screen where it says "Starting Windows"—you know, right when you turn the computer on. I guess the only fix is to just buy a new drive.
I figured out the password—it was just 1234 🙂 ugh, but the thing is, it’s not showing up in the BIOS at all. Since I bought this rig from Best Buy, they put those warranty stickers on the side of the case—so if I peel them off to look inside, I might void everything, and then I'd probably be stuck paying for their diagnostic fees $67—so I think I'll just head over there in person
p.s. I tried running a Windows 7 reinstall, but it only gave me one option for the installation disk and partition—it didn't even show the second one.
Benjamin King2 said:Do you see it listed on the POST screen when the computer boots up?
Well, it’s a pretty new machine—I’ve only had it for about two weeks—and honestly, it’s so fast that I don't really notice anything on the startup screen. I guess if I hit the key, an AsRock screen pops up—that's my motherboard, right?—but then it asks for some random password... which I didn't set, so I have no clue what it wants. I'm still having those boot issues, too—it always seems to hang on the "Starting Windows" screen, and I usually have to restart it before it actually loads (well, everything except the hard drive). This all started right after a Windows update, so maybe I should try uninstalling the updates?
Benjamin King2 said:If it isn't showing up in Disk Management, then it probably isn't in the BIOS either—it might not be a Windows issue, so maybe just double-check that everything is plugged in right.
Everything was working perfectly fine until this morning—no issues at all—and now, suddenly, after those updates, it won't boot. I mean, it feels like it has to be a Windows thing to me... the PC hasn't been moved or anything, so there's no way a cable just popped loose or something—I really hope my hard drive didn't just die on me.
So, I’ve run into a bit of a mess—my Windows 7 isn't an original copy, and some Windows updates just installed themselves. I honestly thought it wouldn't be an issue, but I guess I was wrong. First off, I had to restart my PC about five times before everything finally loaded—it kept hanging on that initial black screen with the Windows logo right in the middle. Now that it's actually up, things feel a little sluggish, I think? But the main thing is that my second hard drive isn't showing up. I have my 500 GB drive where Windows lives and that's fine, but my other 1.5 TB drive—where almost all my data is—just won't load at all. I've tried restarting a few times already, but no luck. Any ideas on what I should do? I'd really appreciate some quick help here!
So, I just picked up a new PC—mostly for gaming—and it’s honestly great. Now I'm stuck on which monitor to grab. I originally ordered a 24" LED, but they told me it's out of stock... so now I'm torn between a 24" or a 27" LED. The smaller one is cheaper $233—which matters a lot to my budget—but then again, I love watching movies on my setup, so a bigger screen might be better. The catch is the response time; the larger one is 5ms while the smaller one is 2ms. Some people tell me I won't even notice the difference, but others say I definitely will, especially since I've got a pretty beefy graphics card (NVIDIA GTX 570) that should push some high FPS. If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it!
Hey there! So, I was wondering if someone could give me a quick rundown on the difference between x32 and x64 Windows 7. I've got a new PC arriving next week with 8 GB of RAM—they suggested I go with the 64-bit version—but I've heard some rumors that people running x64 run into issues with games. Apparently, things like CRC errors can pop up sometimes? Since I'll be using this mainly for gaming, I guess I just wanted to see if anyone knows more about it. Thanks! 🙂
