From what I gather, you can actually push those 5200+ units up to a clock speed of 6000+ MHz, which honestly makes upgrading to a native 6000+ model feel a bit redundant. Unless, of course, you decide to take the plunge and try overclocking your current setup to hit that 6000+ mark without accidentally frying your processor, which would be a disaster.

When it comes to the broader idea of upgrading, I’ve always felt that the smartest move is to invest heavily in high-quality components like a rock-solid power supply, a sturdy case, and reliable storage drives—stuff that can actually serve you well when you build your next rig. For instance, I personally used a Tagan 480 w in my old machine, and I carried it right over into the next build I put together myself; even my case has stuck with me since my very first generation PC, and believe it or not, I'm already on my third generation now.
That really seems to be the only way to genuinely save money when building a new computer, by repurposing parts from your previous one. By mixing in those older components, my recent build ended up costing me roughly $1233, whereas if I had gone completely fresh without reusing anything, that total would have easily ballooned to $1667 without any real reason.
And then, of course, you just list whatever leftover parts are sitting around on Craigslist.

I actually went through the process of selling two old power supplies and picking up a brand-new one because the ones I had were about five or six years old, and I just didn't want to risk them blowing up on me—plus, they were still using those ancient ATA connectors, which just isn't practical anymore.

Ban on selling and using fireworks in Close to Politics ·
It isn't actually about the firecrackers themselves, but rather the absolute moron behind them. You see kids running around with explosives because their parents are being negligent and frankly, just plain foolish. Whenever you run into a kid acting out or causing trouble, you can bet your life that's just a direct reflection of how they were raised at home.
Children are essentially just a mirror held up to their parents' upbringing.

As for me, I didn't set off a single firecracker this New Year's Eve, but I'm still not advocating for a ban on them; I think people should be allowed to have some fun during that one day of the year when there's almost nothing else to celebrate, especially since everything in this country feels like it's falling apart right now.

I honestly can't say for sure if his power supply is going to hold up under the pressure, because let's be real—it's rated for maybe 300W at most, and I’d hate to see it give up the ghost and take the rest of his hardware down with it.

It feels like a lifetime ago, but I still vividly remember back when I was running an Intel Pentium 4 paired with an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200... I had this basic 300W power supply from Microsoft, and the moment I decided to throw in a second DVD-RW drive just so I could have two burners going at once, everything went sideways. The PC just wouldn't boot up properly anymore; it started acting so erratic, randomly restarting itself during startup and even while I was just sitting there working in macOS, which basically forced my hand to go out and immediately shell out some serious cash for a reliable, name-brand replacement. 😵

Beyond just picking up a new graphics card, you’re really looking at needing a fresh processor too, and once you go down that path, you're pretty much forced to upgrade to a better power supply because what you've got right now isn't even cutting it, and honestly, the whole thing could just give up the ghost all at once if you aren't careful. In my humble opinion, it just doesn't make sense to keep pouring money into this current setup. You'd be much better off starting a little fund to save up for an entirely new build from scratch; you could always hang onto the case, the hard drive, and the DVD drive from your old rig, but everything else should probably be sold while it still actually holds some value.

Honestly, once you get mixed up with any of them, they're all just as wild as the next—there really isn't an escape once you're caught up in their whirlwind! 🤣

But seriously, this is just the tip of the iceberg compared to what this particular one has put me through. We should all just sit back and have a good laugh at the whole ridiculous situation, haha.

How should I partition a 1TB hard drive? in IT Support ·
vividpanther89 said:Got a laptop here with a 1TB hard drive running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

I’ve never really messed around with creating new partitions before, but people keep telling me I should probably get on that. Any advice?

1) How would you guys LAY OUT the partitions? Like, should I clear out some junk first? (Maybe burn some files to free up more than the 426 GB I have sitting there right now.)

2) What software should I use?

3) I saw some YouTube video saying you don't even need extra software—just use Windows itself by going to Start -> Computer, right-clicking, Manage, Disk Management, and so on...

Well, I’m honestly not entirely sure what you primarily use that laptop for, but judging by what you've shared, it seems like you’re a typical user who mostly relies on the internet and Office applications, perhaps with the occasional game thrown in now and then.

If I were in your shoes, here is how I would structure things.

C drive: I'd set aside about 150GB for Windows, your various programs, and games; I'd leave a little extra breathing room there because, as we all know, 64-bit Windows and 64-bit software tend to be quite hungry for storage space.

D drive: I'd allocate maybe 200-300GB specifically for backing up important personal data—things like family photos or work projects—because once those files are yours alone, they aren't exactly sitting anywhere else on the internet.

E drive: Whatever space is left over after that can be used for basically everything else, like miscellaneous downloads or stuff from torrent sites.

Love or Power? in Psychology ·
It feels like these days, unconditional love is becoming a bit of a myth, especially when you look at the grind of the working world where everything seems tied to a paycheck, yet somehow, when you’re tucked away in a university library or a classroom—completely insulated from the crushing weight of bills and financial stress—you find yourself falling head over heels without any reservations whatsoever. 🤣

It honestly feels like people are just looking for trouble where none needs to exist.
It’s one of those strange patterns I see all the time: if a solution is straightforward, everyone starts complaining that it’s too simple to be effective, but the moment things get genuinely complicated—like the hurdles I had to clear myself—everyone just goes silent.
Anyway, since the original poster managed to track down the answers they needed elsewhere, I suppose this thread can be officially closed.

ironcyclist58 said:The whole point isn't just handing someone the answer on a silver platter, right? It’s about nudging them so they can actually discover the answer themselves and, in the process, actually learn something. Since we aren't dealing with complex, open-ended essay questions here—where the answer is really just a single word or a quick sentence—I honestly don't see how you can help anyone without basically giving them the solution, unless you just drop some links where they can go off and do their own reading.

Well, if that's the case, then what is the actual purpose of having this forum or all these endless threads scattered across it? ☕

You haven't even considered the other side of things, have you? What happens if a person hasn't mastered English yet, or maybe they're just starting to pick it up? In that scenario, what are they supposed to do—firstly spend months learning English just so they can translate the prompt, and only *then* be able to answer the question?

I mean, would you really be all worked up if I decided to post a link in Japanese in response to a similar query from you one day?

thanks for the little bit of help

Honestly, you aren't going to find much of substance on this Reddit thread besides people just bickering with one another.

I remember when I first started posting here—I had two separate threads about some pretty heavy-duty software compatibility issues—and it was like total silence; nobody said a single word, which, if I’m being honest, was probably just because everyone was stumped by the technical stuff.
But then, the moment someone drops a super simple multiple-choice question where you just have to pick A, B, C, or D, suddenly everyone is an expert, pasting links to foreign websites that most of us can't even read, all while getting a free shot at arguing with each other.

Formula E in Formula 1 ·
Maybe they just got a little too carried away and forgot to grease the gears! 😂

I see that Audi Sport ABT is competing in Formula E, so you can bet I'll be rooting for that team. 😍
So, here's my current situation: I'm working with a motherboard that features both an SPDIF port and an Optical audio output. From what I understand, these are digital signal outputs designed to eventually be converted into an analog signal so they can actually drive my speakers or headphones.

What I'm really wrestling with is whether it would actually be worth my while to pick up some sort of DAC converter from eBay—one that handles that digital-to-analog conversion—just so I can plug in my 3.5mm headphones or speakers. My main concern, though, is the actual sound quality.

I'm trying to figure out if there will be any noticeable difference in audio fidelity between using the onboard audio processing that's already built into the board (via those standard 3.5mm jacks) versus buying an external converter $33 and then plugging my gear into that instead.

For instance, I was looking at this specific converter

My primary goal is just to enjoy higher-quality music and clear dialogue during video tutorials, and then, secondary to that, some gaming—though I usually stick to stereo since I simply don't have the floor space in my room for a full 5.1 surround setup like the Logitech x530 system I ended up with after getting a deal through AT&T. I also have these slightly nicer General Electric headphones from $67 which are actually quite pleasant to listen to.
New build or just a CPU upgrade? in Desktops ·
Charles Kim2 said:So, here’s the deal.
I honestly don't think I need a top-tier graphics card right now, because my current one handles everything I play just fine (I mostly stick to online stuff: World of Tanks, League of Legends, and occasionally RIFT or Battlefield 4, plus Call of Duty 4)

I’m planning on keeping my CPU cooler, the GPU, my SSD, and my 1TB hard drive.

Could you guys help me put together a build in the $4,000 range?$100 I’m really looking for that "best buy" sweet spot—you know, the absolute most bang for my buck. It could even go for less than $1333 if it truly represents the best value possible.

Thanks so much, guys, for taking the time to help me out.

Honestly, for the types of games you're playing, you'd get way more mileage out of investing in a newer, beefier processor instead. Then, if you can manage to squirrel away some cash over the next two or three years, you could jump to a completely new generation of components and essentially have a brand-new machine.

As for all that extra noise about getting a different power supply or insisting on a six-core processor and such... you can pretty much just ignore all of that. ☕
Mac vs PC in Desktops ·
I honestly think people fall into the trap of believing a Mac is inherently superior to a PC just because they’re enamored with the aesthetic, but if you really peel back the layers, a Mac is essentially just a beautifully packaged PC—and it makes me wonder, why does it feel that way to so many?
You see, Apple doesn't actually manufacture its own processors, graphics cards, RAM, or hard drives; instead, they source all those essential components from giants like Intel, AMD, and ECC, which are the exact same parts you'd find inside any standard high-end PC.

The real distinction lies in the fact that Apple utilizes its own proprietary operating system, which many argue offers a smoother experience than Windows—the undisputed industry standard for the typical PC. Plus, let's be honest, the hardware chassis themselves are just much more visually striking than your average, utilitarian PC tower.

I was actually sitting here digging through the technical specifications, and it became quite clear to me that when you look at the specific components powering these Macs, they are virtually identical to what I've already built into my own custom PCs.

wiredscout17 said:You aren't wrong at all, actually. 🙂

I really just started this thread because I wanted to see if anyone else out there had gone through something similar...

Women are a necessary evil, I suppose. 🙂

But even with all that said, I just can't wrap my head around how someone can completely lose their backbone overnight. 🙂

As for me, I’m just chilling after all this, having finally confirmed what I’d been suspecting for quite some time... 😉

Don't sweat it too much; who knows, you might even end up asking each other to be godparents again after a divorce—though nowadays, women tend to tear those marriages apart just to secure child support and move on to the next guy. It seems like that's just the modern trend. If you look at the threads regarding alimony, you'll see how ex-wives fight tooth and nail for every cent; clearly, they aren't exactly driven by anything else. 🤣

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't let the whole godparent situation get under my skin, because honestly, there are much bigger fish to fry. 😬

And as for men losing their nerve overnight? That isn't even surprising. If you look at the way things usually go, about 90% of husbands eventually lose their edge in a marriage. Then you have the remaining 10%, where you've got maybe 1% who manage to stay true "alpha" types and another 9% who are just straight-up bullies. That's just my observation of how men fare once they settle down. 🤣

cosmicorca18 said:I noticed everyone here is laser-focused on the assets—how there was a whole pile of stuff, how my father won't let us touch any of it, or how we lived together until the divorce, which was mutual...

Everything was running smoothly enough until about two years ago when this new woman entered the picture...

I appreciate the attempts to help, really, but I wasn't looking for legal advice, nor am I seeking lectures on the fact that my daughters are adults—even if one still needs child support...

What I’m actually asking is: how do you deal with all this disappointment? Has anyone else gone through something similar, and if so, what kind of fallout should I expect?....

Alright, look, this feels like a classic scenario where a divorced woman vents about her ex-husband, which honestly isn't news to anyone. The actual root cause of the split and how the ex-husband felt during the whole ordeal hasn't even been touched upon. Now, I realize that might not be the main point, but it’s just something that gets my mind racing when I try to process the full picture.

As for what the psychological fallout will look like, that's entirely dependent on the specific personalities within the broken family unit. Truly, no one can predict exactly how this will affect your daughters or how they will both ultimately navigate the aftermath.

USB 2.0 vs. 3.0: Is it worth the upgrade? in IT Support ·
Honestly, it really doesn't matter which one you end up grabbing because a 3.0 drive will work just fine on a 2.0 port. People get hung up on those version numbers, but they’re essentially just speed ratings, and if your computer is stuck with an older USB 2.0 setup, a 3.0 flash drive will simply scale its performance down to match that 2.0 limit. You can't really make a mistake by opting for the 3.0 model, since those drives are designed to be backward compatible with both 3.0 and 2.0 standards.

The only catch—and it's a minor one, really—is that a USB 2.0 drive can't suddenly decide to run at 3.0 speeds; it's strictly limited to its own 2.0 specifications regardless of what port you plug it into.
