Any chance you guys could toss some recommendations my way for a build around $2000? I’m thinking a Ryzen 3600 paired with 2 x 8GB DDR4 and a standard AM4 motherboard—that part seems straightforward enough—but I’m honestly stuck on which GPU to grab and what kind of monitor would work. Maybe something in the 27" range? To be honest, I haven't the slightest clue what makes a decent monitor. It’s for my kid, mostly just schoolwork and some gaming.

It would be pretty much perfect if the shop offered free assembly, too. Just grab the box, have them load up Windows, and call it a day.

Thanks!

So according to this, Kimi lost 18 seconds to Hamilton during his pit stops...
Which would mean those 17.2 seconds were basically just enough for Vettel to show up somewhere near Kimi...

Solid article, thanks for the link! 👍

Regardless of the VSC, Vettel was pulling some weirdly fast laps right after Hamilton and Kimi headed to the pits...
The whole thing felt like a setup orchestrated by him to catch those two off guard... maybe he was just nursing his tires, waiting for the perfect moment to pull off that overcut the entire time.🤔

Right before they pitted, Vettel’s pace started dropping so hard it literally looked like he had absolutely shredded his tires and would be forced to pit first...
Then, immediately after Hamilton and Kimi came in, he suddenly finds the speed to match them—or even surpass them—even though they were sitting on fresh rubber...

The gap between Vettel and Kimi before the VSC was 17.2 seconds, which feels like just enough to potentially emerge right near Kimi's gearbox after the pit stops...
Whether he ends up ahead, side-by-side, or stuck behind? Who knows. But it looks like it would have been incredibly close...

That doesn't add up. The gap between Vettel and Kimi was 17.3s on lap 19 (when Hamilton pitted). By the time Vettel finally pitted six laps later, that gap had only grown to 18s. So, he didn't even gain a full second over those six laps, so how could he have built up any significant advantage? Sure, there was one lap under the VSC, but even then, I don't see how he could have stretched that gap to 23 or 24 seconds on old tires.
Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
I don't think so. I can't really remember if the warranty was for two years or three, and it doesn't say on the receipt. 🤔

Hey, sorry if this isn't quite the right spot for this kind of thing, but it felt even more pointless to start an entirely new thread just to ask.

So, I finally picked up a new GPU a few days ago to replace my old VTX R9 270 x 2 GB GDDR5. That card’s been running for a little over two years now—I actually still have the receipt from Best Buy back in April 2015, specifically $500. Does anyone have any clue what I might be able to get for it on Craigslist? It’s in perfect working order, fully tested, everything works as it should. I was thinking maybe around $167, but does anyone have a different take? More or less than that?

Thanks!

>selling it way below market value

>The price is "fair" because it’s clearly stated, so take it or leave it.

Nothing actually sells below cost. You see margins of maybe 1-10% here and there, sure, but selling something for less than the wholesale price plus a tiny profit? No. The price for the keyboard and the labor is just way too high for an old laptop. It’s not worth it, regardless of whether the repair shop has to deal with a mountain of taxes, rent, and payroll—that’s hardly their concern, is it?

Honestly, just take the laptop to a different shop. These guys are incompetent and overpriced. Worst case scenario, find some local IT guy who can knock it out for $200-$100 including the part.

As for the diagnostic fee, you don't have much of a choice. If you don't pay, you aren't getting your laptop back. They want $100-$50? They probably cracked the casing, checked the connections, and gave you a quote for the fix. And regarding that other issue... maybe they just couldn't replicate the glitch?

Go check the manufacturer's site for that laptop and hunt down the chipset drivers. Basically, just let me know which specific model you're running.

Jessica Murphy61 said:- fire extinguisher - I get that part
- a sticker marking where the extinguisher goes (you can grab those on Amazon for like 5-$10 bucks, just Google it)
- first aid kit
- evacuation plan (depends on how big the space is, maybe 1000-$500 dollars roughly, though it took me like a whole year to finally get mine done)

I think I follow all that, I'm just stuck on the evacuation plan bit. Right now I've only got two rooms being used for work—one holds the compressor, which is soundproofed since it's diesel-powered, and the other is my workspace. Basically, there's just one door for each 😁

Electrical safety certification for equipment/wiring - already handled that one
· Gas line leak test (if needed) - don't use gas here
· Potable water safety cert - I use a private well, so what am I even supposed to do about that?
· Soundproofing certification – noise level testing for certain jobs – that'll have to wait, though I guess I'll need it for the room with the compressor.
· Ventilation efficiency cert - I'm just gonna have one single fan pulling air out...

Honestly, I can't find a single place that clearly lists everything required. Is this stuff kept secret or something?

It doesn't matter much for me. My setup is dead simple—just a 200 sq ft space with a single entrance/exit and a tiny restroom tucked in the corner. It's got walls and everything, but still... what a joke. If there's a fire or something, it's not like someone's going to accidentally bolt straight into the bathroom, right? But apparently, it's mandatory for everyone regardless of how small the space is. Please tell me if anyone's actually had a Fire Marshal show up and told them they didn't need it.

That's really the worst part about it. There isn't a single place where everything is clearly laid out. I only found out about some requirements through news reports about people getting fined for missing things—like, I don't know, a little sticker marking where the fire extinguisher goes... or stuff related to software licensing and whatnot...

Read around, ask around, make calls... but at the end of the day, you can often just negotiate with the inspector. They might come back in a few days after you've grabbed what you were missing, or you can just claim your receipt is sitting at the accountant's office...

I've got no clue exactly what's on the checklist for this, but here’s a few things I ended up needing myself—different line of work, sure, but honestly, most people probably need the same stuff anyway:

Fire extinguisher. Just one of those things you stare at on the wall and wonder if anyone actually knows how to use it. You think you do, right? Until the smoke starts hitting the ceiling and your brain just turns to mush. Is it even worth checking the pressure gauge once a year, or are we all just pretending everything is fine while the timer ticks down? Probably just more paperwork for nothing.
Sticker for the "fire extinguisher station"... you can get them for like five bucks... why does everything need a label? Does the fire just look for a sign before it starts burning? Probably not. Just more clutter.$10 Just look it up online... do a little digging on Google.
First aid kit. Just one. Is that really all we need? It’s funny how we think a little plastic box with some Band-Aids and antiseptic wipes can fix everything when things actually go sideways. You spend all this time worrying about the big stuff, the systemic collapses, the inevitable drift toward becoming a failed state... and then you trip on a curb or cut your finger slicing an onion. Suddenly, the whole grand scheme doesn't matter. All that matters is whether you have enough gauze. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? We prepare for the end of the world, but we rarely prepare for a scraped knee. Or maybe we do. Maybe the Band-Aid is just a placebo for the chaos. Who knows.
I’m not sure if this thing actually needs a sticker or not. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. Who knows? Anyway, I went ahead and grabbed one. 🙂
Evacuation plans... it all depends on scale, I guess. The size of the crowd, the layout, the whole thing. If you're looking at something involving 1,000 people or more? It gets complicated fast. You can't just wing it when things go south. Is there actually a protocol in place? Probably not as solid as people like to think. Everything relies on how much prep was done before the chaos starts. Just one of those things.$500 It’s about that long, I guess. Even if it took me a whole damn year just to finally pull it off. 😁

Regarding the rental stuff... honestly, if I were you, I’d just pick a number and stick to it. It’s basically tax-free on your end, while the landlord ends up chipping in some small change—maybe 8 or 10%? Something like that. Anyway, from what I've heard around town, the rates usually hover around... $33 So, per square foot... which means 20 square meters equals... what, exactly? Just staring at the numbers. Trying to make sense of the math. It’s all just units, isn't it? Different ways to measure the same empty space. $667Sure, you could push for a bit more, I guess. Or maybe not. You can always opt for the smaller payments if that’s your thing, though let’s be real—you won't be renting anything decent at that rate. What's the point? $0.33 For instance.
Laptop's crawling and full of viruses in IT Support ·
restlessdriver42 said:Basically, my laptop is crawling because it's loaded with viruses, and now I need to get it fixed, but there's a catch... I can't just hand it over to anyone because I once had some pretty questionable photos on there. I thought I deleted them all, but one of them keeps popping up—I don't even know how to describe it properly... anyway, it shows up and I just can't get rid of it...

Look, if you take it to any decent repair shop in the States—and I mean a place that actually employs professionals instead of just high school interns looking for extra credit—nobody is going to be digging through your files to find stuff like that. Honestly? I handle all sorts of hardware every single day, and frankly, I don't have the mental energy to go snooping through someone's browser history or private photos, whether I know them or not. It’s just not worth the effort.

Don't sweat it. When the laptop finally needs a pro, just take it in. 🙂
Windows 7 installation help in IT Support ·
Honestly, if you're doing a totally clean install of Windows and you actually manage to get the installer running, all you really have to do is read what's on the screen. You don't need some deep-dive tutorial; these newer versions of Windows are pretty straightforward, and there's not much you can actually screw up.

Besides, installing via a USB drive is way faster, and it’s dead simple using a tool like Rufus to burn that .ISO file onto it. 🙂

I don't know. Maybe people just like complaining? It feels like that sometimes. Does anyone actually enjoy the grind, or are we all just going through the motions because there isn't much else to do? Just wondering. kaže:
And then the blue screen popped up with some random error code... still nothing. Just sitting here staring at it. What's the point?

And still, nothing’s been fixed. Nothing at all. 🙂

What kind of error are we talking about here? Is it that 0x000007B one?

shadowlynx102 said:Your macOS registry is a total mess. Just wipe it and reinstall.

Usually, that’s the quickest way to fix a sluggish machine. Unless the hard drive itself is dying... you'll know pretty much immediately after a clean install if it doesn't speed up. Then you know the HDD is on its last legs.

I personally swear by CCleaner to clear out all that junk that drags down the boot process, so you could give that a shot. But honestly? dr.mrgood gave you the best advice. Back everything up and just reinstall macOS. It’s the simplest way out of the mess.
Is there anything actually worth trying before I drop a hundred bucks on a new drive?

If you picked this thing up just five months ago, it should still be under warranty. Unless, of course, you made the mistake of agreeing to some shady deal involving a refurbished unit... then you're pretty much screwed.

Have you run chkdsk yet? And maybe it's just me being exhausted, but I don't see the info here—what kind of drive are we even talking about?

The original question was whether you can change it infinitely. The answer is no. Can you change it after Meta tells you it's impossible? Sure, if you go through support as a last resort, but they aren't going to do that for you over and over again.😉

http://www.ebay.com/itm/software-listing-example

So, you basically just go to my link, find whichever version of Windows you're looking for, and then get in touch with the seller on eBay to see how they want to play it. Most likely, you'll just wire them the cash and they'll shoot you a product key via SMS or email. Just make sure you actually tell them which specific version of Windows you need before you pay.

Just to reiterate what’s been said around here already—you really have to watch your back when buying these keys. I've read that a lot of those dirt-cheap ones just stop working after a few months. It makes sense if you think about it, right? Given how little they cost—maybe $15 or $30—compared to what Microsoft actually charges. It's suspicious.

If you're just an average user, like your PC or laptop isn't some official work machine, you can pretty much just use whatever and nobody cares. But if it's a corporate computer? You're gonna need that legitimate license sticker anyway.🙂

Just spent forty minutes arguing with a friend about this. Forty minutes. Can you believe that? Just wasted all that time going in circles.
I know the Germans have basically claimed Cologne for themselves, but who’s actually playing them there? If they were just following the standard rotation, they’d be playing in Hamburg—and we’d be right there with them—but apparently, they’ve decided they need the biggest arena available for their own sake, blah blah blah... anyway, are we moving to Cologne to face the Germans, or are we sticking with Hamburg?

I’m a complete mess, believe me. 🙂
