I have a question for anyone who’s had nose surgery at a hospital in Chicago...
I've dealt with nose issues since I was a kid. Mostly allergy-related, but there are times when breathing just gets difficult. I want to go in and see if I actually have a deviated septum. My nose is also quite prominent with a bump on it, so if there is a deviation, I’d love to fix the aesthetics too. It looks way too big for my face and the bump isn't helping. It's been bothering me for a long time and I'm honestly at a loss with it 🤔 .My question is (for those of you who've been through it), where did you have the best experience? Were you happy with both the health results and how it looks?? 🕺

I haven't gone under the knife myself, but I have an appointment scheduled for September. Every time I see the surgeon, they ask if I'm still struggling with allergies. Apparently, you have to try managing the allergies first. If nothing seems to help, then they start the actual surgical evaluations to see if you're even a candidate for the procedure.
boldnomad45 said:I was there for five days. Had my surgery on Monday, and honestly, the care was great. They let me head home on Friday once they pulled the stitches out.

Was it brutal dealing with those stitches? I mean, how long did it take before you stopped looking like you’d been in a street fight? 😁I’m just hoping I don't look like a wreck for more than two weeks—maybe by then the bruising will have turned that nice shade of yellow.hehe

The real nightmare for me, though, is my phobia of needles—like, actual needles in my veins. I’m not sure how I’m going to pull this off. Every time I have to get blood drawn, I start shaking and getting cold sweats. Now I know they need to insert an IV, and I have no idea how I’m going to handle that. haha
boldnomad45 said:He talks a bit, pretty professional, and did a decent job on my surgery. I actually had to get some work done on my nasal septum at a private clinic recently, and things are feeling much better now.
Honestly, who cares about Ožegovica.

I mentioned before that I don't want anyone touching the tip of my nose because I actually like how it looks from the side—I just want the overall profile straightened out. Could you maybe give me a bit more detail about the procedure? Like, how long was the recovery, how long were you stuck in the hospital, stuff like that if you don't mind? Thanks so much. 😁
Hey,
I just got scheduled for nose surgery in about 9 months with Dr. Ožegovica over at the Mayo Clinic.
It’s for a deviated septum and some cosmetic work too.

I was wondering if anyone here has gone through something similar with this doctor. From what I’ve managed to read online, people seem to praise him, but I guess I'm looking for something more personal. If anyone has an actual story or has heard anything firsthand about his work, could you let me know?

Thanks a lot 🙂
redcrane59 said:Well, I see most of you had decent experiences, but mine was an absolute disaster...

I had a massive deviation and a hump. The doctor at Mayo Clinic told me he’d fix both at once, and I thought, great... He basically dismantled my entire nasal structure...
But as soon as they took the splints off, it was a mess. There's this huge saddle deformity, and the deviation is still there. I still can't breathe properly through my right nostril or anything...
I don't even want to think about being caught in a photo looking straight on, because it looks like someone took a scraper to the middle of my nose...

Now I have to scrape together $2k for a revision with a decent surgeon. I've got a recommendation and everything, I just need the cash :-)

You really messed up going to that hospital. Everyone I know has bad stories about them, and the doctors there aren't exactly top-tier.🤷
Sam Kim12 said:I guess you can't really do cosmetic work through Medicare unless it’s some kind of corrective surgery following an accident—and even then, you need a documented medical history to prove it. As for choosing between a hospital or going private, I’d probably lean toward a hospital setting. Even if I had to pay out of pocket because insurance wouldn't cover it, I'd still rather be in a hospital.😉

I mean, sure, if you have a deviated septum. I’ve heard stories about people cutting deals with doctors who don't actually have any issues. They basically agree to report a deviation just to get the functional surgery covered by Medicare, and then they sneak in the cosmetic stuff for free while they're at it. It probably happens more often than people admit, I guess. 😁 It seems absurd to me, but I guess that’s just how things go sometimes. Anything can happen, I suppose.
Nicole Mitchell75 said:Hey everyone. I need some advice.
So, I'm from a small town in the Midwest and I need surgery for a deviated septum and my nasal bridge. I was recommended to see Dr. Bedeković at the Mayo Clinic, who apparently only sees patients on Tuesdays. I called the Mayo Clinic and they told me I could just show up on Tuesday with a referral and that I don't need an appointment. I'm wondering if that's actually true? Because I know that even for a regular ENT here in the States, you usually have to book ahead and wait a month or so for something like this. How does the whole process work? I'd be traveling to Chicago for the initial consultation with the professor, so what happens after that? Roughly how long is the wait until the actual surgery, and how does the whole thing play out? Thanks in advance. 😁

You definitely need to make an appointment. In fact, I'm trying to do mine right now. 😁
Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Hi

I've been on the pill—Logest—and my period has always arrived right on schedule.
Yesterday was supposed to be the day, but nothing happened. Then last night, I started feeling these sharp pains in my ovaries. I figured my period had finally started, but when I checked this morning, still nothing. The pain is pretty intense, though, and it doesn't really let up until I take some Advil.
We only had sex twice this month, and he didn't even finish inside, so I'm assuming pregnancy isn't really the issue here. I have been under a lot of stress lately, but I guess I just keep overthinking it.😁

Does anyone know what might be causing this, or has anyone dealt with something similar? It’s kind of creeping me out because my cycle has never been late like this before.🤷 ????

Ryan Hayes82 said:The GTX 560 ti has a 256-bit bus. Personally, I’d probably lean toward the 6950 since it’s slightly more powerful, and it overclocks pretty well too.

It actually has a 384-bit bus, so it isn't necessarily worse than the 6950. It really just depends on which game you're playing, though I guess the cooling on the GTX cards is better. I'd probably grab the GTX, but I'm not an expert on this stuff.

How does overclocking even work? Like, does it say anywhere how far you can push it before you risk breaking something, and how safe is it to actually bump up the frequency?

Which card is actually better here?
EVGA PCI-E Nvidia GeForce gtx 560 ti Golden Sample GDDR5 1GB/384bit
or maybe
the MSI gtx560ti Hawk with Windforce, 1GB GDDR?

Or should I just go with the Nvidia GTX 570? I'm looking to run games on max settings.

I'm honestly torn here too. Should I grab the GTX 560 Ti or go for the 570? Maybe someone could break down what the deal is with overclocking versus finding a Golden Sample and all that. My budget is sitting right at $1,800 for a card, and I’m really aiming for max settings on the best titles. I know the 570 is technically the heavy hitter, while the 560 Ti is just... okay, I guess. Is it actually worth dropping an extra $167 400 bucks? Is the performance jump worth that much more money?

Hey everyone. I'm looking at picking up a new graphics card...

I'm leaning toward the GTX 560 Ti Hawk, specifically the TwinFrozr III version with 1GB GDDR

But I'm kind of torn on whether it makes sense to jump up to a 570 or maybe a 6970.
I want to run everything on max settings, just the newest titles, and I don't need anything higher than 1080p resolution.
Do you think it's actually worth spending$133 extra? Money isn't exactly tight, but I guess if there's no real benefit, why bother?
Alcohol and heart palpitations in Health ·
Morgan Bishop4 said:So, this thing started happening to me this summer... basically, whenever I head out over the weekend and have a few drinks—maybe one, two, or even more than that—I’ll wake up the next morning feeling like my heart is absolutely sprinting through my chest, just pounding like crazy, and sometimes I actually struggle to catch my breath.
Since I already deal with low blood pressure, I was thinking maybe the alcohol is just dilating my vessels even further and bottoming me out even more 😢
To try and fix it, I’ve been trying stuff like dunking my hands in ice water, or just lying down and propping my legs up or whatever...
And usually, that seems to take the edge off..
But honestly, nothing worked better than when I went for a swim in the ocean or took a freezing cold shower.

I’m sitting here wondering if I should actually go see a doctor about this, or if I just need to swear off alcohol entirely and never touch it again or what? 🤷

It was especially brutal when the heat waves were hitting hard..

I can't tell if this is just some weird normal thing or if it's actually something I should be worried about... I really don't want my heart to just give out on me.

I also have low blood pressure, and what you're saying doesn't quite track... normally, when your blood pressure is low, your vessels aren't dilated; they're actually constricted, which makes it harder for oxygen to reach certain organs and leaves you feeling exhausted. That's just how low blood pressure works. As for the alcohol, I've never experienced that, even though I fall into the heavy category of low-pressure sufferers. I guess a little red wine actually helps perk me up, which isn't a bad thing for my BP.
