Meat smells bad in Health ·
I suppose I might have understood if this was something happening back in my wilder, younger days... but let's be real—I'm well into my 30s now.😁
I’m a firm believer that you have to listen to what your body is telling you; for now, I am listening, simply because I have absolutely zero intention of putting anything in my mouth that’s gone rotten.

sun - I don't know, I haven't noticed any issues myself 🤷
Carol Parker - I can't even wrap my head around someone actually enjoying the smell of raw meat.
Yesterday, my husband tried to "heal" me from this whole recent mess. He whipped up a backyard BBQ—which, mind you, I usually absolutely adore, being a total meat lover and all—but honestly, I nearly gagged. Everything except the chicken was just incredibly bland... though I did manage to wolf down some mushrooms and eggplant😂

edit:
I also went ahead and took a pregnancy test.

Harold Evans7 said:I’ve actually had an issue with the smell of meat—specifically red meat—since I was a little kid🙂. I can sometimes stomach chicken or turkey, though even that's hit or miss depending on the day. Honestly, just walking past a butcher shop makes me feel a bit lightheaded, let alone trying to cook or eat something like liver😲. A lot of people assume this is some kind of trendy vegetarian phase, but it really isn't. I've given it several tries over the years, but I just can't get past that specific scent and the feeling of blood
. I don't mind deli meats or prosciutto, though😉

It’s like looking in a mirror.
Ugh.

I wouldn't go that far. I think they study just so they actually understand the job they're doing—whether they're assistants, specialists, or whatever else you want to call them.

But okay, you've cleared that up for me a bit better now; I suppose one doesn't just start tweaking dosages "on their own" without checking in with a doctor first.
Thanks.

Angela Wright - during my pregnancy, the only thing I could stand the smell of was smoked paprika sausage.😁
brisknomad6 - So, there's definitely something going on. My doctor told me my iron levels are basically "just enough to keep a hamster alive"... hm, maybe that's the culprit here.
But man, that smell is intense... ufff

Hold on a second.
Are you actually suggesting that a pharmacist knows how to dose medication better—say, Glucophage—than a doctor who is sitting right there with all my lab results in front of them?
Or are we talking about something else, like Normabel or similar stuff?
Sorry if I sound skeptical, but I’ve genuinely never encountered this before; I am completely floored.
Look, I have zero issues walking into a City Pharmacy and asking for advice on over-the-counter stuff, but the idea of me agreeing to a dosage change for something prescribed by a physician who just finished my full workup? That is total nonsense to me.
How is a pharmacist even supposed to adjust a dose? If they have a doubt, they should send the prescription back to the doctor—but to just go rogue and change things themselves... honestly, I'd call that incredibly reckless.

Karen Barrett said:A pharmacist isn't some idiot—they are highly trained professionals tasked with dispensing what the doctor prescribed, which includes adjusting a dose if absolutely necessary! Or, they might flag a dangerous interaction with something else the patient is already taking and send them back to their physician to overhaul the treatment plan...

Oh, really? And I suppose that isn't the doctor's job then? Is a pharmacist actually allowed to go around tweaking doses written on a prescription? Because if they *are* messing with those numbers, who is left holding the bag—who takes the blame—if something goes horribly wrong during that dosage adjustment?

I feel a little ridiculous saying this, but here we go...
I’m dropping this post here in hopes that someone else has dealt with something similar—or better yet, exactly the same thing—so maybe we can actually trade some advice.
Moderators—if there’s already an existing thread for this, please feel free to merge it.

Over the last month—give or take a week—I’ve been having some serious issues with food. Or, to be more precise, I can’t even wrap my head around the idea of red meat. It’s completely off the table. At first, I genuinely thought maybe I was just feeling weak or that everything smelled off because I was pregnant (spoiler alert: I’m not), or perhaps my sense of taste and smell had just gone haywire from all the sugar (not the case either), or even that I was simply making things up in my own head (I am certainly not). I even considered if it might be a side effect of my diabetes medication—I actually brought the whole thing up with my endocrinologist, who ended up adjusting my prescription to something else entirely—but nope, none of those were the culprit.
I take a bite of meat—doesn't matter if it’s boiled, roasted, or grilled—and the taste is absolutely revolting; I can literally taste blood. 😕 The stench of rot—it’s getting even worse. 😕
Elon Musk—honestly, I haven’t changed a single thing about how I prep my meals, and I certainly don't go around buying "retro" or old-school products—so I truly don't get the confusion! Back home, everyone just eats perfectly normal food without all this fuss. It’s the exact same story no matter where I travel in America.
Exactly—it’s the same story when you're looking at deli ham.
I ended up sticking with the chicken, but even that’s starting to pick up a bit of a... questionable aroma.
Honestly, I don’t know what they’re doing differently over there lately—maybe it’s the soil, maybe it’s the season—but I have to say, the fruits and vegetables I've been getting lately have never tasted this incredible. It’s almost ridiculous how much better everything is.
Am I actually losing my marbles, or am I just being reasonable here? Should I be looking for a psychiatrist, or am I just completely off the deep end?

Much appreciated.
Postpartum allergies: Anyone else dealing with this? in Women's Health ·
Oh, absolutely! Especially those areas where you're wearing something tight—like a bra, for instance—it would be an absolute nightmare.
Just try asking your doctor for a referral; at least then you can finally get some peace of mind.

restlesscobra22 said:It isn’t exactly a mild itch—it’s more like a relentless, maddening urge. I’m trying my absolute best to just leave it alone, really, but the second I actually start scratching... well, there’s no stopping. It becomes this unstoppable cycle. Why does that even happen?

Same here.
It was mostly concentrated on the right side and just underneath my breasts—it doesn't exactly itch, but once I actually start scratching, it becomes absolutely unbearable.
So, I headed over to my doctor’s office today, and get this—she flat-out refused to give me a referral. Just total nonsense. 🙄
So, I ended up pulling an all-nighter in the ER—yes, really—and they had to give me an injection just to get things back under control. It took me a little while to connect the dots, but I finally figured out what triggered the whole mess: almonds.
I’ve always loved them—they're easily one of my absolute favorite snacks—but... well, things took a turn. After that emergency room visit, I didn't touch any of them all day; I waited until the evening to try again, and after only about half an hour, everything just came right back up.
So, there's a chance it might be tied to some food you used to eat without any issues—you know, stuff that didn't cause a stir before. 🤷
Postpartum recovery: What to expect? in Women's Health ·
Since you had such a rough delivery, it’s only been about four weeks now—barely a month.
I know exactly what you mean regarding that sensation—that heavy, dragging feeling in your uterus—and I dealt with that for nearly two months postpartum. It wasn't even a pulling sensation, just a literal sense of weight.
And don't even get me started on walking... if I tried to go for anything longer than 15 minutes, I could have dreamed about it.
When I went in for my six-week checkup, I asked my doctor what was going on, and she explained that this is actually pretty common after a difficult labor; the body simply needs a bit more time to bounce back.
You should probably be heading in for a follow-up appointment around now, right?
Just book the appointment—it'll give you some peace of mind.
Precisely my point... which is why I made sure to mention from the start that this wasn't a guarantee.

Sperm can live inside the body for about five days just waiting for an egg. An egg only lives for about 24 hours, which is why the fertile window includes the days BEFORE ovulation, the day of, and maybe the day after.

So, she basically hit the jackpot. 🙂

(By the way, the "pulling out" method has a 20% pregnancy rate. That is NOT contraception. If you end up pregnant, it wasn't bad luck—you just did exactly what happens when you use that method.)

Exactly—we are talking about that three-day window surrounding ovulation.
In most cases, sperm survives for about three days (though if the semen analysis is perfect and the internal environment is "optimal" 😁 ), you might get up to five.
According to some of the more recent studies out there, the egg itself may only live for anywhere from 4 to 12 hours—so you really have to hit that 🤣
window perfectly.
And suddenly it’s not such a bad deal after all 😘
Look, I hate to be the one to break it to you... but even that "pulling out on time" method isn't actually contraception—it’s more like playing the lottery. 😳
If your cycle is textbook (say, 28 days), you still have a little bit of breathing room. Based on yesterday, you were likely around day 11, and ovulation usually hits around day 14... obviously, nothing is a 100% guarantee, but you're in a much better spot than if you had missed it by three or four days.
Fingers crossed for you...
Hey, Adonia!
So, whatever happened with that guy you two were staying with? Did he get cold feet or something?
If I recall correctly, you always wanted this—to have another little one, regardless of whether the older kid would be by your side or not, right? 😕
I’m certainly no expert here... but I am "gifted" when it comes to pregnancy tests 😬
It doesn't matter if the line seems to have vanished—that's exactly why the instructions insist you read the result within 10 minutes, not any later.
If you wait too long, a line might pop up out of nowhere or disappear entirely, and it has absolutely nothing to do with whether you're actually pregnant.
If both lines showed up within that initial 10-minute window, then that's your answer.👍
If you really want peace of mind, grab another one tomorrow morning—or better yet, just head over to your OB-GYN.
Grab a test kit😁

We love each other, but we aren't ready for this—not by a long shot. I even thought about abortion, but honestly, the word itself feels too heavy to even say out loud, let alone suggest to her. I just don't want her to suffer down the road. And god, this bright sunny day? It’s probably the worst day of my life.

And why on earth do you think you wouldn't be suffering too?
The topic of abortion needs to be chewed over very, very carefully...
Don't jump straight into those kinds of scenarios; wait until you both feel certain about where you stand.
One more thing—if you're already feeling this level of desperation, why not just book an appointment with a private OB-GYN today and go get checked out?
I honestly think you’re overthinking this way too much.
She took a test after being 14 days late—which is pretty much the point where you absolutely have to see a positive result if there's actually a pregnancy involved.
Based on how you described that test, it sounds like it was invalid; I mean, something just wasn't done right.
The control window is supposed to show a clear line—not some random smudge or faint stain.
Just have her take another one first thing tomorrow morning, and then you'll finally have some real answers.
As for that feeling that you aren't ready for a baby right now... well, maybe you never will feel truly "ready" until life just throws it at you.
I truly hope you get exactly what you're looking for!
