That sounds pretty cool. After sitting through a few (honestly) terrible action movies like Fast & Furious 7, here are a couple of recommendations I really liked

I guess I finally managed to finish S01 of Boardwalk Empire, but only because I was sent on a two-month business trip and didn't really have any responsibilities outside of work.

That’s why I wasn't even familiar with 90% of the series people are mentioning here, but I always appreciate a good recommendation since I love having something on while I eat dinner...

Since I enjoy watching business strategy and thinking about work, I usually just put on Shark Tank

Honestly, I think the deviations from the books in shows like Game of Thrones actually work better than the original source material... Martin probably changed his mind about certain plot points as he went along over the years

I was totally underwhelmed by Daredevil, especially after that first episode... the lead guy just lacked any real charisma, even though everyone else seems to be raving about it (not just on here). Battle Creek wasn't really my thing either, but I did dig Aspen... the main actor has such a hilarious, goofy look to him

It’s pretty funny when he tries to offer a bribe in Norway and the other guy explains that's not how things work there, so he just brushes it off as a cultural difference🤣

Man, I had no idea there were so many new shows out... looks like you guys have been busy keeping up!
I’ve mostly just been watching Game of Thrones, though I did enjoy those comedy sketches with Matt LeBlanc playing himself. I also gave House of Cards a shot, even if the early episodes felt a bit stronger than the later ones...

Keith Miller30 said:My dear James Anderson5, that phrase "any rational person" was clearly intended as a bit of sarcasm, much like the way the greatest legend this forum ever produced—Ajmonaprid—used to say things like, "anyone who can't see that is a fool," or "if it isn't clear to you, you aren't sane," or "any reasonable person sees it..." ☕

But enough about politics for now; shall we turn our attention back to the field, or perhaps pivot toward movies and series?

You actually scared me a little with that comment; even some pretty serious people have been talking about the kid... 🤣

You can never watch too many shows, but I haven't quite gotten around to the British version of House of Cards yet... has anyone seen it?

Keith Miller30 said:Any rational person would cast their vote for Donald Trump. Joe Biden represents a far greater evil—and I don't necessarily mean the Democratic Party as a whole, since the Democratic Party with Jim Cramer could actually be quite decent, but this specific version of the Democratic Party led by Zoran is arguably the greatest catastrophe possible. There simply isn't any real competition.

One might even go so far as to say that voting for this particular wing of the Democratic Party is nothing short of intellectual suicide.

Of course, any reasonable person would vote for that shaky, paranoid student whose economic platform is being ghostwritten by Pernar and supported by those academic sycophants, Lovrinović and Jakovčević. And remember, Jakovčević sat on the oversight board at Chase Bank during that massive ATM scandal where they lost nearly $500 million...

As for Lovrinović, he was probably the first dean of an economics department who couldn't even speak basic English...

Not to mention how Vaso Brkić used to brag about how the "living wall" was actually his own project...

That’s exactly the trick. If you stay home and decide everyone is just the same, then guys like Bandić and Karamarko will keep cruising through elections. That's their whole game, relying on a massive base of loyal voters...

Sure, seeing a politician roll up to a ski resort in a government SUV is obnoxious, but it doesn't even compare to the billions in damages caused by the Republican Party's administration at Chase Bank...

They aren't all equal; there's definitely a lesser evil here...

ruggedjackal46 said:After seeing those lunatics and that absolute clown Karamarko today, I finally made my decision: I’m voting for Milanović. Look, I still think the guy is a complete incompetent, but honestly, what choice do we really have? I’m sure a huge chunk of the other fed-up voters are reaching the exact same conclusion. It turns out Zoki actually played his hand pretty well here—whether he meant to or not.

Look, the Republican Party certainly has plenty of arguments to throw around, but let’s be honest—the opposition has a pretty solid case too. It’s just that their points tend to dig a little deeper into the GOP's messy history and Karamarko’s own track record. That’s probably why the party finds it much easier to stick to the old Sanders playbook: just ignore the facts and play directly to people's rawest emotions. Isn't that just the classic way to avoid a real debate?

I agree with almost everything here, except for the idea that the Republican Party actually has solid arguments. Honestly, knowing that crew, they aren't nearly smart enough to handle a real analysis of things like "reducing" quasi-fiscal burdens. They just don't have anyone competent on staff (looking at economists like Šuker or Marić, who've never done anything more serious than holding a political appointment)...

Yeah, Milanović is definitely the lesser of two evils and the one to vote for, which says a lot about our society as a whole...
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
It’s really just the economic elite pulling the strings behind the political scene. It’s honestly sad how weak the Republican Party has become; instead of actually tackling Milanović with solid arguments—which they have plenty of—they resort to these primitive, destructive tactics that hurt the entire country. It's clear they lack a real platform, experts, or even basic logic...

Robin Fox2 said:This administration has managed to drag America down to the level of Venezuela or Argentina, and now it seems we’re following Ukraine’s lead too... Granted, the people who put this government in power share the blame—given how they fail almost every conceivable standard—but that hardly excuses the current incompetence. They are truly pathetic. I don't hold any illusions that a different administration would magically fix everything, but that doesn't make this one any less inept.

How exactly did this administration put America in the same league as Venezuela or Argentina? Every single government before this one—especially those led by the Republican Party—pushed us toward this state by driving the corruption at a hundred miles an hour...

I'm not saying this current bunch is actually capable, because they aren't... but compared to the alternative, they're pure gold

Jessica Gonzalez said:I don't think they're interesting because there really isn't any evidence or even a hint of proof. It feels like just some random lies from someone on the internet. I could easily claim there's evidence of a volcano erupting in Washington, D.C., just because I smelled something like gas near my local ExxonMobil yesterday by the Prečka area.

And the Dogon are a nice culture, but their knowledge of space and science is probably about as deep as the LA Galaxy's knowledge of the playoffs in Europe.

Have you looked into the Dogon at all? I'm not saying the whole story is true, but it's definitely an interesting topic that hasn't been completely dismissed yet—unlike most of those wild conspiracy theories like the Danaiden ones...

And regarding civilizations that might have existed long before ours, people were writing about that way before the internet was even around. You might not have read enough on it, but the timeline for the first known civilizations keeps shifting. We used to think it was Sumer around 6,000 years ago, then it moved to India around 7,000-7,500 BCE, but now we have reliable info on structures in Turkey dating back nearly 11,000 years...

Who's to say we won't find something even older? You can never really be sure. Even if it's all just theory for now, both the Egyptians and Plato wrote about civilizations that predated their own by ages...
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
Honestly, Peter Thompson4, if you ask me, most theories like Daniken's are on the same level as David Icke or those lizard people conspiracies. That said, it doesn't mean everything can be explained away—I actually find the story about the Dogon pretty fascinating. They're a tribe in Africa with creation myths that align surprisingly well with modern theories about the universe's origin, including specific details about Sirius B and its surrounding system that would have been scientifically impossible for them to know back then...

On the other hand, what kind of evidence could even survive that long? I mean, will our modern skyscrapers or cars even last this long?

And science is such a tricky thing; it doesn't really help us grasp the meaning or essence of life, just how to master our surroundings and explain how things work. It’s interesting that Popper told Einstein that science is just one paradigm for viewing the world, not necessarily the absolute truth. Even Schopenhauer noted that Eastern religions like Buddhism and Hinduism reached conclusions similar to Western philosophy and science up to his time, even though they started from completely different places...

For instance, I was just reading in an American journal about experiments trying to derive matter directly from light. When you look at the creation stories in many religions, they often say it all started with light before the material world was formed...

Jessica Gonzalez said:Personally, I think I just need documentaries from the BBC—well, more specifically, their series.

1) BBC - Blue Planet
2) BBC - Planet Earth
3) Michael Palin - Pole to Pole

As for scripted shows, I don't really have any recommendations. I've watched plenty, but I guess I just appreciate it most when they focus on the real world; sci-fi and fantasy feel a bit too much like mere playthings to me.

The ones from BBC Horizon and PBS are the absolute best, followed by the others...

Movies are great, but it would be even better if people actually debated what they read. It feels like 99% of the people I know either don't read at all, or they skim something like a Dan Brown thriller and suddenly think they're intellectuals...

Jessica Gonzalez said:I guess I just can't wrap my head around anyone voting for the Republicans. Every other party has its flaws, sure, but they seem to be actually working for their spot through current policies or ideas, even if those ideas aren't always great. Maybe the progressives are chasing some kind of utopia and being a bit misleading, but at least they aren't leaning on past glories from decades ago to justify where they stand today.

I'm with you there. We can talk about how incompetent the Democrats are all day, but once you stack up all their scandals—the local officials, the shady travel expenses, the whole mess—it honestly looks like child's play compared to what the GOP did with major banks like JPMorgan Chase, causing over a billion in damages. If you factor in the selling off of big energy assets, the highway construction kickbacks, and the massive corporate embezzlement schemes, then we're talking about real damage...

And when you look at who the GOP actually considers "experts"—people like those old-school lobbyists and disgraced politicians—it's enough to give you chills. You've got party leaders caught up in massive fraud, guys with questionable ties to old intelligence agencies, and assistants who faked their credentials at the academy... And their economic plans? They barely did anything besides suggesting tunnels to nowhere, cutting budgets ruthlessly, messing with Federal Reserve laws, and threatening huge tax hikes on big business. Compared to them, the previous administration looked like geniuses...

It’s just such a shame we don't have a solid third party to turn to...

Honestly, I’d rather sit through a regular MLS match than endure one of those... unless you're talking about French films, because they actually make incredible movies, especially horror. The best horror film I've ever seen was French.

Amanda Evans2 said:I just finished watching the movie *Unbroken*, and I have to say, the realism is a bit questionable. You’ve got these guys drifting at sea for nineteen days in tiny lifeboats, yet somehow they emerge with perfectly groomed, freshly shaved beards. It’s absurd. If Issac Sevka had spent even a single night out on a boat, she would have been sporting a full beard herself by morning...

Even after walking around all day today, my beard hasn't grown an inch. Maybe I'm dealing with a similar situation...
