Female sterilization: What are your thoughts? in Women's Health ·
Is there seriously nobody on this forum who’s had an oophorectomy outside of a major hospital system?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has gone through laparoscopic sterilization? If you have, could you please share some details? I’m curious about everything—how you prepared, how long you had to stay in the hospital, what the pain was like afterward, and the overall recovery process. Since other forms of birth control aren't an option for me and I'm definitely done having kids, I've been thinking about this more and more. Thanks in advance!
NuvaRing: Experiences and reviews? in Women's Health ·
Thanks so much! It doesn't explicitly mention epilepsy, but it does say it enters the bloodstream through the mucous membrane. So, the whole "ring" thing is a no-go for me. I was honestly starting to think I’d finally found a birth control method that actually worked for my life.
NuvaRing: Experiences and reviews? in Women's Health ·
Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone here could help me clear something up regarding the NuvaRing. Here's the deal: I have epilepsy and I'm currently on medication for it. My gynecologist suggested the ring, explaining that it doesn't enter my bloodstream and works similarly to a Mirena coil. However, my neurologist is telling me to steer clear of it entirely. Does the official documentation say anything about using it if you have epilepsy?
Two years ago, I had thyroid surgery over at Mercury with Dr. Borčić, and honestly, the whole nursing staff was incredible. They made me feel so taken care of that when it came time for my gallbladder surgery, there wasn't even a question about where I'd go. I just grabbed my referral, headed in for a consultation, and got the procedure scheduled.
I put off my surgery for two years. Eventually, my doctor convinced me it was better to get it over with while the cyst was still small, before things got inflamed. Apparently, once they get infected, the pain is brutal and they can swell up quite a bit. Since I’m a massive hypochondriac—honestly, just thinking about being in pain makes me lightheaded—I kept dragging my feet. Looking back, I really should have done it much sooner. The recovery was surprisingly smooth. I was out grabbing coffee the very next day, had my drain removed on day three, and was discharged by day five. I think they might have sent me home earlier, but since I don't live in a major hub like Chicago, I had to stay a bit longer. After I got out, I actually went straight to a shopping spree for a couple of hours, then spent five hours driving home. I wasn't in any pain at all; I just kept my neck stiff, mostly out of pure anxiety that something might go wrong. The incision is about 2 inches wide, but they tucked it right into a natural fold, so I don't think it'll be too noticeable. They took the stitches out around the seventh or eighth day. I had the procedure at Mercury Hospital, and honestly, the staff there was incredible. If you have more questions, just ask. Oh, and the cyst goes to pathology—usually takes about a week to get the results back.
Hey there, I had my surgery at the start of November. Everything went smoothly—actually, it was a lot easier than I expected. I ended up staying in the hospital for five days and had my stitches removed on the eighth. If you have any specific questions, I’m happy to help.
Anesthesia, Resuscitation, and ICU: Q&A in Health ·
Hey everyone, I’ve got surgery scheduled under general anesthesia for next month. The thing is, it looks like my period is going to hit on the exact same day as the procedure. Should I call the hospital and try to reschedule, or does it really not matter? I mean, there's a chance it could start a day late or even happen right when I'm being prepped for the OR.
Anyone there? Nothing? So, I just found out today that my upcoming surgery is similar to what you'd see for a thyroglossal duct cyst—specifically, they mentioned a Sistrunk procedure. I've been scouring American medical sites and I can't find a single thing about it. Surely I'm not the first person in the US facing this kind of operation.
Could someone please clear this up for me? I've been managing my thyroid issues with an endocrinologist in another city for two years now. Moving forward, am I still able to keep seeing my current specialist, or am I going to be forced to handle all my checkups and tests at the local hospital?
Does anyone here have any actual insight into surgery for a branchial cleft cyst on the neck? I’m mostly worried about the recovery process. From what little I’ve managed to dig up online, it sounds like they might have to remove part of the hyoid bone. Is that actually part of the tongue structure? Also, does anyone know what happens if I just decide not to go through with the surgery at all? Thanks.

I’m basically just arguing with myself here. Or maybe I’m not even arguing, because how do you explain this? I went in for surgery only to find out the cyst was gone. Like, seriously? I’ve been tracking this thing on ultrasounds for two years. The very last scan showed it had actually grown, which is why they scheduled the procedure in the first place. Then, suddenly, it just vanishes within a fourteen-day window.

Walter Long82, thanks for the kind words. I really hope things are looking up for you. I'm scheduled to sit down with my anesthesiologist this Tuesday to talk everything through.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have surgery coming up soon to remove a thyroglossal cyst from my neck, and they’re planning on using general anesthesia. Honestly? I’m terrified. Every single time I’ve been under anesthesia in the past, I feel absolutely terrible—it takes me the entire day just to feel human again. Can I actually talk to the anesthesiologist about trying a different approach? Also, does it matter that I'm currently taking epilepsy medication? I know this might be off-topic, but does anyone know what the recovery process is actually like for this specific procedure? I can't seem to find much helpful info online about thyroglossal cysts. Thanks so much for any insight you can share.

Could someone walk me through what the recovery actually looks like? I feel pretty clear on the surgery itself, but I’m a bit lost on the aftermath. What am I looking at once it's over? Will I be able to eat normally or talk without issues? Also, how long am I going to be stuck in a hospital bed? Thanks a million in advance!
