Do you enjoy breaking things? in Miscellaneous ·
Joseph Watson3 said:I always found both sides of it fun. The destruction part, especially when I was around 11 to 14. If I remember right, I trashed two houses before they were even demolished, some 2 or 3 cars for scrap, piles of TVs, washing machines, streetlights, and hundreds of bottles. 🤔

You men 🙄 🤣
Come on, explain to me—where is the thrill in that 🤷?

Think back to something else. Like when you spent days racking your brain trying to figure out how to make something turn out exactly how you envisioned it. When you were sketching, spilling coffee all over your blueprints, pacing around like some tortured poet lost in your own vision. Remember that feeling when you finally pulled it off and experienced a total, cosmic rush? 😁
Now compare that to a slingshot and a half-broken glass bottle. 🤷

get a kick out of smashing things that have outlived their usefulness. 👍 Nothing specific comes to mind right now, but you get the idea:

I'd much rather build something. 🤷 Destruction is exhausting, and compared to creation, it offers absolutely zero satisfaction. 🤷

Are you talking about that super runner 😕

He isn't weak; he's actually incredibly useful 🤷

Look, experience is incomparable to pure theory. I’ll give you that, mostly because I know exactly what you mean, and I have no problem admitting when someone knows more than I do.
But you have to admit that hoarding "experience" is useless if you haven't actually sat down and studied the literature. True experience is built on a foundation of knowledge; that baseline is what minimizes potential damage and keeps an investment from being a total disaster.

By the way, you completely missed my point. What would you recommend for someone who owns a plot of land, has a strong work ethic, but zero agricultural experience? I’m talking about a crop that offers enough margin for error to handle some beginner mistakes. I get this question all the time, and I’d love to see a clear breakdown of easy versus difficult crops.

Fine, stay stuck in your little bubble 🤷. I’m just repeating what I heard from my university professors who actually specialize in this field. Sure, hydroponics is an automated process, but the production costs are astronomical. You have to factor in highly specialized machinery plus the massive amount of labor and constant troubleshooting required. Nobody touches this unless they are willing to bleed for it—from the second the seedlings sprout until the moment you see signs of leaf damage from ice or pests and have to deal with the plant regressing. It’s easy to talk when everything goes smoothly and you're ready for harvest, but it's a different story when you're constantly terrified of every rainstorm or frost that could ruin your entire yield...

What would you suggest to someone looking to get into farming if they don't even know what the term "fallow period" means?

placidbison20, thanks a lot 👍 😉

Could you pull together some more chat logs to warn me about anything I should know as a complete outsider to this sport?

It’s a heavy concept. It feels like watching the sun set on an era you weren't quite ready to leave behind. There is a certain weight to that kind of finality. You expect the end to be loud, but often, it is just a slow, inevitable fade into the dark. It stays with you. kaže:
I'm looking for a way to stay active that doubles as effective self-defense. I'm a bit too old to be worrying about competitive tournaments now. 🤣

Mixed Martial Arts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Ground and pound meets technical grappling. It’s a complete spectrum of combat. 🤔?

MMA—that’s basically what you see happening in the UFC and Pride fights most of the time.
DSJJ—Dennis Survival Jiu-Jitsu. It’s similar to Krav Maga, but they also hold competitions.

Hey, take a look at this Krav Maga footage. Once you’ve watched it, we can pick up where we left off and talk about it. It really just depends on what you think.

I’ve already looked into it. I like the speed and the utility. It looks very practical and direct compared to those stylized movie fight scenes.😁

What’s the initial investment for gear? What are monthly membership prices like in NYC, and would you recommend any specific gym?

How demanding is Krav Maga if you want to actually master it? I'm pretty active and agile, and my build helps too.

Daniel Garcia said:I'd suggest kickboxing. Given that old injury though—you definitely need to check with a doctor first.

It'll be fine 👍

Sam Roberts said:Nah, probably won't be much point heading to training right now... everyone's basically on summer break

It’s not urgent. Right now, I’m just considering this as a hypothetical activity. Aerobics and things like that 🙄 aren't an option, and the gym doesn't really interest me with its purely linear weightlifting. I want something that stimulates reflexes and demands speed and agility.🙂

Maybe I am overcomplicating this.🤣

Morbid, I'm thick, you've read me completely😢 🙄 😛

Seriously though, I want to know: how much breakage and what kind of injuries should I expect? My bones are pretty light, and I have one very cleanly healed multiple fracture of the femur from almost 15 years ago. Could that be an issue?

What do you do for a living, and for how long?

@ pacifizam - and here I am just waiting for someone to come along and tell me that BV isn't just a great way to intensely burn off energy, build conditioning, and improve motor gracefulness, but rather the union of Spirit and Body in Harmony with the Universe as we act as a Medium through which Divine Energy flows😁

27. Flower of Youth 😍. Competition doesn't really pull me in anymore, especially not after all those years of basketball and gymnastics 😬

Krav Maga? Solid advice. I’ve actually read a bit about it before (for instance, I know it isn't an Olympic sport).
What does the membership pricing look like, and how widespread are the clubs across the US?

Krav Maga, Muay Thai, MMA, or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu all fit that description of yours.

I'm looking for something recreational that also works as effective self-defense. I'm way too old for competitive fighting.🤣

I need a recommendation... I have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about here, so there's a massive chance I'll mess up my terminology 🤣. I've been lurking and studying the sub for a bit, but most of these terms are completely foreign to me, so I need some guidance or help narrowing down my options. I'm looking for a martial art recommendation for someone returning to physical activity after years of being inactive. I want something new, demanding, and intense. Something powerful and fast... basically, as they say, a way to blow off steam, but without just hitting a heavy bag that can't dodge or hit back 🤷 😬

Thanks in advance 😉

Dammit, if you don't even know what the hell you're overpaying for... 🤷

🤣

Exactly.
Have you tried looking into the specifics? Honestly, maybe don't. My pathological curiosity would force me to find out exactly what's going on, and then I'd be stuck having to pay the back balance. 🙄 😂

A small, narrow plot 🤔... I’d start by getting the seniors involved with some vegetable gardening. It keeps them occupied and happy, and you get your own homegrown produce out of it. The most important thing is making sure that land doesn't just sit there going to waste.

Dealing with snails is a lot harder than people realize. A buddy of mine has been struggling with them on his patio for a year now; they’ve completely taken over, and he can't seem to get rid of them without resorting to heavy chemicals. He doesn't even want to deal with the hassle of sourcing a sprayer 🤷
darktiger27 said:The world is split into good people and bad people. You’re born that way; you don't just wake up one day and decide to be a saint or a villain.
I look at my three-month-old son and I just know. He's a good baby, which means he'll be a good man. I can see it. He smiles, plays with his tiny hands—just pure, innocent happiness. Like a little angel. Did anyone ever bother to ask my kids if they even wanted to show up to this world?
Then there's my eight-year-old daughter. She told me the other day, "Mom, I told that girl to stop yelling at me, because she's yelling at Jesus." When the girl asked her what she meant, she just said, "Jesus is in all of us." It makes you wonder. Who asked these pure souls—people who are destined to be good—if they actually wanted to get dragged into all this earthly mess?
They were plucked from somewhere in the cosmos, or wherever, dreaming peacefully until they were forced down here. Why? Because we're selfish. We're terrified of being alone, especially when we're old and weak. We think having kids will save our marriages or give us something to do when life gets boring. We know how the world works. For every good person out there, there's a bad one to balance the scales. That's just how it seems to me. A friend once told me that the luckiest person is the one who was never born. I think about that a lot. Does anyone ever ask us if we want to participate in this life?

Why on earth would you bring children into a world like this 🤷?
Jack of all trades? in Psychology ·
Henry Lopez14 said:I’m currently navigating my teen years, and talking to people my age, I’ve noticed something pretty strange and kind of unsettling.
One group of kids around me seems to have it all figured out—straight A's, sports, hobbies, they look good, they have huge social circles, and they're always dating someone.
Then there’s this other group. They don't do anything outside of school, yet they study their heads off, only to end up with mediocre grades. They rarely go out, they barely have any friends, and nobody seems interested in dating them.

I guess I’m wondering if this is just down to the individuals themselves—like, can they actually control their trajectory—or if it’s more like some kind of psychological glitch in the system?

When you work on yourself and things start going your way, it shows. From there, it's just a chain reaction of good events. A person who actually cares about themselves radiates something, and it's hard to miss. It seems like other people find them easier to "accept," though it's mostly happening subconsciously. The problem arises when these types of people hit a rough patch and face apathy or rejection. Life can't be perfect all the time; that's something you have to learn to deal with.

Excellent film, nothing but praise. The story is solid, the continuity is tight, and Pfeiffer is looking gorgeous as always. Robin Penn playing that religious trailer trash floozy is pure 🙏 🙏 🙏
