What should I do about these bruises? in Health ·
Honestly, ladies... I’d say you’re all a bit clueless 😉, but here I am, staring at this dark purple bruise on my shin and wondering what the hell I actually did to earn this 😁
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2008) in Movies ·
It isn't even Hell like some people claim; it’s more cartoonish—you know, when someone gets their arm sliced off and blood just sprays everywhere in a huge jet. Planet Terror meets Kill Bill, >, is basically a dream come true for any fan of extreme gore who loves badass women on a bloody path of vengeance. It’s a movie made purely for the hell of it. I haven't seen 👍 actual Hell... 🤔not since I can remember.
(Of course, if you're expecting a serious film with a real plot and well-developed characters, you're going to be bitterly disappointed. But hey, if that's what you want, go watch > or something similar 😂)

The only thing that sucked was watching a poorly dubbed version by (who else?) Americans 🙄. I really hate it when films in Japanese, Finnish, Portuguese, etc., are dubbed 😠
URGENT: Toothache is killing me!!! in Health ·
There isn't A SINGLE DAMN PAIN RELIEVER in this house, not even an Aspirin 😢 I tried drinking cold water, but the pain just intensified. Then I remembered someone mentioning you can fill a crack with toothpaste, but I don't see any difference... I have no idea how I'm supposed to call my neighbor at this hour without her husband shooting me 😱
URGENT: Toothache is killing me!!! in Health ·
I’m out of painkillers at home and now one of my fillings just fell out. Because I was too busy stressing over a failed exam, I couldn't make it to the dentist, and now I'm paying the ultimate price—this toothache is absolutely killing me! Does anyone have any advice on what to do with it, specifically how to treat it until morning so this thing settles down enough for me to get even a few hours of sleep? 😢 😢 😢 My life is a complete mess right now and there isn't an open pharmacy in sight at this hour; I’d honestly donate a kidney for some Aleve...

Thanks in advance!
Thanks, beautiful... trying to find something like that in NYC is like looking for a needle in a haystack😉
Does anyone know where I can find a Thor's hammer in the US (maybe NYC or Chicago?) and what kind of price we're looking at?

Honestly, I have no idea how I missed this:

redowl90 said:How can something that lasts 90 minutes and stars Scarlett Johansson possibly be boring?

Heh, redowl90, redowl90... hot actresses aren't a metric for quality... though I'll take comfort in the thought that any film featuring Matthew Gray Gubler has to be decent. 😉
(seriously, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is basically an experimental sedative. 😉)
Top 10 most boring Movies in Movies ·
I’ve tried working my way through this list, skipping *The Da Vinci Code*, and honestly? Most of them are mediocre at best—boring, even. *Star Wars: The Phantom Menace* was particularly a slog. My rule is simple: if a movie hasn't hooked me within the first thirty minutes through solid acting, a tight plot, sharp dialogue, or a compelling motive, I’m done. I have no interest in forcing it. Half of these films are so tedious they put me straight to sleep; I feel like I need to dissolve them into 150mL pixels just to use them as tranquilizers. 😉
Lost in Translation... one of the most effective sedatives ever made. I still can't wrap my head around why so many people obsess over this movie. :?
Lumps in my breasts? in Women's Health ·
Benign or malignant... I’m trying to wrap my head around the logic here. Why is it that people assume benign growths are the ones that actually hurt, while malignant ones supposedly don't? Is there an actual scientific explanation for this, or are we just relying on old wives' tales? Specifically, why do things like fatty lipomas or cysts cause such obvious pain?

Thanks
Secondhand smoke issues in Health ·
I’m about to add yet another group of selfish bastards to my list of grievances—right alongside the smokers—and I’m talking about those who just WANDER AROUND WITH NO PURPOSE!!! If a guy thinks he’s the literal embodiment of Apollo, or if he fancies himself the smartest, funniest, most compassionate, or most noble person in the room... well, he deserves a bullet to the head immediately, without even getting a chance to defend himself! It’s not the guts, the corpses, the blood, the waste, or even half-decomposed stomach contents that turn my stomach. But when I see someone leaving a trail of absolute filth smeared across the sidewalk... aaargh!
Secondhand smoke issues in Health ·
Vran, I have to quote a particularly interesting line you wrote here:
It's a damn habit... I know it's stupid and I know I could just stop, but my willpower is just too weak..

I am certain you can just stop whenever you choose. 👍 👍 👍

Jerry Phillips2, teenagers fall for losers who try way too hard to impress them; it's a cycle. Don't get caught in that loop because it's a waste of time—advice? Go hunt for slightly older women who are past the stage of thinking "oh wow, he's so cool when he rides through town shirtless without a helmet"... :awwwwww:... Don't compromise yourself. 😉 To borrow from one of your previous posts: what good is someone who doesn't respect their own body? I want someone with the mental capacity to actually use their head. We’ll grow together. 👍

Also, I constantly hear people whining, "life was better back then, people were healthier." 🙄 Sure, they lived in ignorance; people used to smoke in dentist waiting rooms and stuff like that. Now, people in their mid-40s are dying from all sorts of cancers. It’s actually good that we finally have some level of awareness and laws that basically say, if you smoke, get out. I don't even want to imagine how things were 30 years ago when everything was unregulated. My point is that THE TRUE CONSEQUENCES OF THAT SO-CALLED "BETTER LIFE" ARE ONLY NOW COMING TO LIGHT. We aren't rats; we don't have masssssive generations every single year—the actual long-term consequences that shape our credibility only become visible after a long time. A perfect example of this is contraceptives, specifically their hormonal makeup, which is currently in a supersupersupersuperlight state.

A trivial example unrelated to smoke, but regarding that "better life" era—a nurse I knew in a maternity ward told me that in the 60s and 70s, as soon as mothers gave birth, they were pushed toward formula. Industrial, synthetic products. Today, mothers are much better educated and taught how to breastfeed because nothing beats fresh colostrum, given its original composition and the somatic cells that build an infant's immunity right after birth.
The only thing better about that era was the unrealistically low unemployment rate. IMO, nothing else.

Furthermore, regarding autonomous detoxification—yes, we have a natural mechanism for cleansing ourselves, but I believe that in super-toxic environments, a little help goes a long way. Why shouldn't I help myself? It doesn't have to be warped , but...

2 placidranger — I'm glad when I learn something; what's wrong with trying to stay informed? I would be truly foolish to choose a lifestyle where I walk around with my eyes closed, just moving "by inertia." I don't know how to live like that. In an age where information on any interest is readily available, it's a waste of bandwidth to spend it on pirating schemes or filth. I spend mine studying human physiology and general arthropod biology, and as a film buff, IMDb is my daily destination. Everything else is just peripheral noise. 😉
BTW, there isn't even that much data on the harmful effects listed here. If I had listed everything I needed to, I would have come across as militant. 😉

<snip monologue that 96.33% of forum users won't even bother reading in its entirety>

Amidst this sea of constant complaining... look at where you are now with your little "cigarette smoke bothers me" attitude.

If I wanted to list every single frustration that could potentially crush me—even on a purely hypothetical level across all social spectrums—I’d just start a thread titled "The Professional Whiner's Guide to Weltschmerz." 🙄
Ergo, maybe I feel for veterans/people suffering from AIDS/hunger/death/eating disorders/etc., but we can discuss that some other time, in better times and in a more appropriate setting.😛

Jerry Phillips2, it’s commendable that you inherited that anti-smoking streak from your mother. 👍 I know plenty of people whose parents didn't smoke, yet their kids ended up failing out by age 13. Whether it's a rebellion or a "down with oppression" stance directed at the elderly, I don't know. 😕 My parents were heavy smokers; my mother hasn't touched one in almost 15 years now, and I am incredibly proud of her (doctor: "Mrs. Smith, if you don't quit those cigarettes, your blood pressure, heart, and cholesterol are going to skyrocket, and you'll go right along with them.") and my uncle only smokes when his nerves act up, and even then, he keeps it outside. He actually admitted that during the periods when he doesn't smoke, if some idiot smokes next to him, THE CIGARETTE SMOKE REEKS.

@ inertia - sometimes people like that irritate me far more than actual smokers do, and we’ve all dealt with them. GOD FORBID you tell them it bothers you; they'd rather choke on the stench. Is that attitude a result of feeling like they don't have the authority to ask anyone for anything—oh, rather...? I don't buy it. Why should I be expected to maintain "good neighborly relations" by not mentioning someone blowing smoke in my face, when that very person refuses to maintain that same relationship through basic compromise? I was lucky enough to have roommates who were actually decent about this.

@ cigarettes & masculinity - back in the eighties, you'd still see those magazine ads where models (of both genders) would pose with a cigarette to sell them—how exactly was that supposed to be sexy? It's primitive and disgusting. Personally, I have never kissed a smoker. I was lucky enough to find someone who feels exactly the same way—nothing is sexier than a clean, natural scent 😁... on a clean and natural person.😍 😍 😍 😍 😍

@ detoxing - I was operating under the logic that toxins leave through your skin and urine. I was basically walking around bloated because I was constantly trying to run to the restroom 🙂

2 Jerry Phillips2 - I dream about a day when there's a total ban on freaking smoke! It’s slightly better on trains now, but the worst was before summer—it was 115 degrees outside, we were trapped in a sweltering tin can of a train car, packed with people, smells (stenches), and zero air circulation. It was suffocating; breathing was impossible, and yet they were STILL SMOKING!!! How? That is a massive mystery to me!
Thank God someone finally decided to ban at least some of this crap, so there's actually some POINT in sitting in the non-smoking section of the car...
Washing clothes to get rid of the smell—that's impossible for me! After sitting in a cloud of smoke, it goes straight into the washing machine, though admittedly I rarely wear a shirt twice, let alone two days in a row. Having those stenches lingering in my closet is unthinkable...

@ exaggerating - My experience with being poisoned is purely subjective, and I couldn't care less about phrases like "you're overreacting." The night before, I had been snorting and my eyes were watering— the smoke bothers me and obviously, under those conditions, I am not feeling well.
Finally, it's common knowledge that tar and whatnot have residual effects—when I think about how my eyes were watery all evening, I start questioning the impact on organs like the lungs (BTW, blood is filtered in the lungs and then goes to the heart and distributes throughout the body, etc.)... am I really exaggerating? 🙄 🙄 🙄

@ regarding the constant question about daily contact with smoke - I'm not (like, 8 hours every single day), but there are often people next to me who blow out one, two, three, or more puffs. I can't control that, and smokers are usually selfish and indifferent enough that they don't care that there are people around them who are bothered by it. As for the other things Douglas Ramos2 quoted, I influence them as much as possible, thanks for asking 😉

2 Benjamin Murphy2 - I honestly think it's a disgrace that cigarettes are still socially acceptable. I'm not just talking about the level of Rhode Island—and I'm not implying its primitiveness—but even internationally. If a country were to issue a decree against smoking, the population would immediately start making a fuss. Personally, I'd be happy if smokers were taught a lesson with some fines (people only understand it when you slap them in the wallet) so that smoke stays in their dens—if you enjoy constant, idiotic poisoning, go ahead and smoke to yourself and knock yourself out.
The fact remains that the government profits from it, and as for a total ban on smokers, sadly, we can only dream because of them 😢

🙄 🙄 🙄

Of course I’m being dramatic, but look, lady, I asked for advice from better-informed people who actually share my perspective. I wasn't looking for an answer like yours. I deal with smoke on a daily basis just passing through—whatever, it happens—but I try to live a life free from that and all its related garbage. I live that way as much as possible, and honestly, I can't even remember the last time I sat around getting lightly intoxicated by it.

You are completely underestimating the power of secondhand smoke. Attributing the fact that smoke contains arsenic, acetone, and similar "yummy" compounds and elements* to chronic ignorance and a phlegmatic attitude toward selfish smokers is my take. If it’s normal for you to inhale 70+ carcinogenic compounds, it isn't for me, and your post just solidifies my opinion on the matter. Your body is sending you signals that conditions are terrible—you feel nauseous, you cough, you sneeze, your eyes water—and you just ignore it??? WTF?!
Ugh, I hate it when people are so passive, it's absolutely terrible!

BTW, maybe check your own mental state when you take a metaphor like "I'd cut the hands off those stinking bastards" literally. Retarded bitch alert! Get lost if you don't have useful advice, K? Flaming is lame, and it's something a pissed-off 15-year-old would do after his uncle confiscated his Playboy.

The fact is, we’re being poisoned just walking down city streets—does that mean it's justified to poison ourselves further? Sure, we’re screwed by food, hormones, cosmetics, etc.; we drink impure water from plastic bottles, and we inject toxins from super-dangerous bacteria that have killed soldiers throughout history like the plague straight into our facial skin to make it tight like a Lombardi drum—so what does it matter if we passively smoke five packs of cigarettes in a few hours? Exactly.

Timothy Morgan38, I’ve heard about milk and how it's often mentioned as first aid when someone accidentally ingests some kind of poison while waiting for the ER to arrive. Even as a preventative measure, like in your cousin's case (though I don't know about the printing press incident, it makes sense—lead!)... I avoid it as much as I can, but some situations are more or less unavoidable.

* - benzene, phenols, cyanide, naphthalene, lead, ammonia, carbon monoxide, methanol, cadmium, formaldehyde, nickel...
(I wanted to list the negative effects of these and many other chemical compounds for you, but frankly, I'm neither your chemistry professor nor your mother, and I don't feel like lecturing you any more than I have to)
HELP!!! Urgent! in Health ·
I second this.
It’s better to make a change now than to bring a child into the world when you aren't ready. You run the risk of making life unnecessarily complicated for someone else. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your choices, and legally speaking, the law treats you the same as any other woman in her 40s.
Tips for better digestion... in Health ·
That whole "two liters of water a day" line is played out, but there’s no denying we lose a massive amount of fluid daily—especially when you factor in the summer heat. Staying hydrated is non-negotiable. The real overachievers who stick to it end up with a great tan, healthy kidneys, and better digestion. Personally, I drink plenty, and I take it ice-cold. Almost freezing, actually.

I've heard that about migraines too... though years ago, whenever I dealt with headaches (not quite migraines, but close), I used to dunk my entire face in a sink full of ice water and ice cubes. It was fast, intense, and incredibly effective. Otherwise, Advil 😢 would absolutely wreck my stomach.

I absolutely cannot stand cigarette smoke. I’m not exaggerating when I say I want to tear the hands off anyone who reeks of it—it is quite literally the most disgusting thing I have ever had to deal with. I go out of my way to avoid smokers in enclosed spaces, but occasionally I’m "forced" into situations where I have to balance sitting down with constantly fleeing the room just to stop the smell from clinging to me. (Last Saturday, I was stuck in a wedding hall where more than 50% of the adults were smoking.) By the end of it, I walked out of that building smelling like a literal chimney. Honestly, if this were just an external issue—if I could just hop in the shower, scrub my skin, and deep-clean my hair—I'd be fine. But then I remember the stinging eyes, the stench in my hair, and clothes that feel too filthy to even wash in a laundry machine. 🙄
I know it sounds unrealistic, but does anyone have any advice for post-exposure detoxification? Food? Drinks? Steaming some herbal tea? Throw anything at me! I realize how silly this question might sound, given that inhaling smoke and its toxic compounds causes direct damage to lung tissue and is a massive health risk, but is there any way tomitigate the fallout from this kind of exposure?
