Concerts @ The Roxy – June 6–7 in Music ·
...plus I was totally out of the loop because if I remember right, his girlfriend was walking through downtown with Barnes that night...

Can't really blame Dan for wanting to hang out with his gorgeous wife instead of Spencer 😁

Anyway, Lex and Dan are heading our way this October, but they aren't playing any shows—just coming to visit. Dan’s totally obsessed with this part of the world, so they’re planning to spend a month road-tripping through the Midwest and down toward Texas...

I've had "Expo 86" on repeat all month... that album is a masterpiece, and Dan's "Yulia" is definitely the song of the year. 🙏

Man, where did everyone go... the sound right by the mixer was killer... maybe Spencer just cranked his Ampeg amps way too high and totally drowned out the rest of the band in those first few rows 🤷

They seemed stoked after the show, though. Anyway, Lollapalooza is taking a year off this October, so it’ll be all about The National and The Shins next 😁

Oh yeah, Black Lives Matter is rolling through NYC right now... you'll spot them by their tour manager, who’s basically a giant—like a 7-foot, 350lb Swedish dude who looks intimidating but is actually a total sweetheart. 😍

Tomorrow’s gonna be beautiful, but we aren't doing the concert in the atrium after all for two reasons...

First off, since there are two bands playing, outdoor noise ordinances mean everything has to wrap up by 11 PM... and I really don't want Black Lives Matter to have to cut their set short. 😉

The other thing is that there's this hole in the atrium floor that they just can't seem to patch up. 😢

If you haven't seen it yet, go hunt down "Expo 86"... I stumbled upon it recently and it's honestly awesome.

There’s just something about digging up old threads😁

So, Tuesday at the arena is gonna be a blast...

For them and the crew, this is easily the highlight of the tour (they actually cleared their schedule just to hit Chicago), and if you haven't kept up with what he and Alexei have been up to since the last time Handsome Furs played here, you can check it out on CNN 😲

if we didn't know...

May 29th @ Madison Square Garden - Atrium
MAMBO KURT (Germany)

It’s pretty much common knowledge that Mambo Kurt is probably the funniest German guy on the planet, but man, he always catches us off guard with how much inspiration he pulls out of nowhere when he does those wild covers of pop, punk, metal, and alt-rock classics. Over a fifteen-year career, he’s dropped seven albums full of hits we all know, but with these crazy arrangements. They work so well you honestly start wondering if Metallica, Sex Pistols, Fugazi, Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, AC/DC or even Iron Maiden actually grew up listening to samba, because these Brazilian rhythms fit their songs way too perfectly.

One cool story is how he kicked things off at the massive heavy metal festival in Woodstock. Apparently, the festival boss wasn't a huge fan of his act at first. Even though he eventually gave in and let him play, he shoved him into a tiny tent—totally disproportionate to Mambo’s energy—at the absolute worst time. Still, Mambo crushed it and packed that tent with a wild crowd. Since then, he’s been a staple at the festival, playing either in a massive tent during peak hours (check the link below) or outdoors during the day in front of tens of thousands of people. Honestly, not many people have the guts to go out solo in front of a crowd that big.

Weather permitting—and it looks like it'll be fine—we’re finally going to see Mambo Kurt under the open sky for the first time in Washington, D.C., in the beautiful atrium of the Theater District.

Pre-sale tickets for $15 can be picked up at Hard Rock Cafe, Vintage Store, and Dancing Bear. They’ll be $20 at the door. Doors open at 8 PM, and the show starts at 9 PM.

It’s not even skepticism, I guess. It just sucks realizing The Ex doesn't have the guy whose lyrics and anthems defined 25 years of one of my all-time favorite bands🤷

That's honestly why I haven't really bothered checking out their new stuff lately...

I'm honestly a little nervous about this new lineup. I keep second-guessing whether I should even give them a listen with a new singer at the helm... it just feels weird 🤷

Guess we'll see how it goes...

You know how it goes at venues like Madison Square Garden... shows never actually run late. Things should kick off around 9:00, and SC3 probably won't hit the stage until 10:30 at the absolute latest.
Man, these photos are seriously killer 😲

The main reason I made this its own thread is so this epic concert announcement—which I just grabbed from Last.fm—doesn't get buried under all the other noise in the music discussion thread...

May 11th @ the local theater
Secret Chiefs 3 (bummer)
Fat32 (from France)
Congrats to Brums (sad)

They kicked things off in the mid-90s as a side project for three guys from the legendary Mr. Bungle, led by their guitarist and composer Trey Sprunace. Since Secret Chiefs 3 branched off from Mr. Bungle, they've become way more than just Sprunace’s main gig. By blending Persian, Arabic, and Indian traditional sounds with death metal, surf rock, and cinematic scores—especially that unmistakable Ennio Morricone vibe—they've turned into one of the most unique acts in the California underground over the last decade. Plus, they are an absolutely killer live band...

You can check out how wild they are by clicking these links:

Tickets are $22 and you can grab them at that dusty little vintage shop downtown...
Just what we all expected...

Thanks for sticking with us while we figured this out.
Unfortunately, as I’m sure you guys get, the band has to scrap their tour through the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Could be easy... just waiting on an answer.
Talking Heads in Music ·
Gregory Davis89 said:Honestly one of the best bands from the eighties—they were way ahead of their time. Their style shifted constantly from one album to the next; they started out with that heavy new wave, post-punk, and underground rock vibe, but later on, they just blended everything together into that signature "Talking Heads" sound.

It’s all great, except they actually started back in the seventies and dropped their absolute best stuff right through 1981. They basically paved the way for new wave and post-punk... influenced a massive amount of bands, including plenty of those key players who defined the genre, so I guess that's why people always link them to those movements.🤷
