A bit messy and incomplete, but hey, at least it's a happy list:
Lightspeed Champion - Midnight surprise The Rosebuds - Nica Fox Islands - The arm Nada Surf - See these bones The Lucksmiths - The sobering thaught Vampire Weekend - A -punk The Mountain Goats - Heretic pride Okkervil River - Lost coastlines Vetiver - To baby
I totally forgot to mention this in my first post, but it just hit me. A good buddy of mine once told me—and I quote—"If Midlake had dropped Trials of Van Occupanther back in '97, I would've listened to them way more than Radiohead's OK Computer. As it stands, they're alright, but they're just alright. Whatever, who cares"
I’m riding the subway today, just minding my own business and listening to some tunes. Then I notice this person pull a greasy iPod out of their pocket—must’ve been at least 120 GB—and they’re just frantically scrolling through it. Being the total nerd that I am, I tried to sneak a peek to see what was playing, but I gave up. It was too far away, and my eyesight isn't exactly what it used to be.
It honestly sent me straight back to the glory days of the Walkman. I remember how religiously I used to pick out exactly two tapes to bring with me before heading off to college. And I wouldn't dare swap them until I had listened to both of them—start to finish, every single side.
Anyway, getting to the point, even if it’s a bit of a tangent. I still remember those cassette days and the obsession with looping the same stuff over and over, giving every single band at least three or four fair shots by sitting there and actually listening to the entire album. Then it moved to CDs, burning tapes, then Discmen, then those early MP3 players...
Long story short, I realized that this year I’ve probably cycled through about thirty albums released back in 2008. Some of them I even heard before they were officially dropped, kind of like how you guys do it. It’s actually a little depressing, I guess. I feel like I’m more prone to judging an artist based on just two or three tracks now. I mean, who has the time to listen to everything when there’s still so much undiscovered gold out there? And who’s actually going to catch every subtle layer or notice the tiny details anymore?
Look, I’m not anti-tech. I’d be an idiot if I said I was. I love the internet. I love MP3s. It just feels like technology has changed me, somehow. I’m fighting it, though. I don't brag about having massive amounts of music on my hard drive, and I try my best not to download anything new until I’ve finished what’s already sitting there.
I can't help but wonder just how much this constant accessibility has ruined the whole experience.
I'd rather take my chances with half of Neno Belan's luck on a bad day than deal with Mogwai. Otherwise, you might end up missing out on the big wins entirely.
So I ran into this girl from my college days the other day. Just being polite, I asked her what she’s up to lately, and she tells me she’s actually running production for this huge festival. I asked if she knew who was on the lineup yet. She just goes, "No clue," she says. Then I asked, "Well, who did you guys even reach out to?" And she's like, "We invited everyone—basically anyone that isn't straight-up Pop." Anyway, I just walked off to go grab a coffee. I didn't even bother saying goodbye. ☕
Honestly, these obvious ones are just the worst :glavomostolizsvesnage:
I was watching those guys from the Chicago Cubs like a total idiot—just staring at them, trying to make sense of it—but I couldn't wrap my head around it at all. And I knew, I just fucking knew, it was going to be on the very next pitch. It had to happen.
Blood or organs served in a glass? That’s totally B-52's Green is definitely The Go-Go's The woman dreaming about candy is obviously Sweet Dreams Razor blades? That's Razors Edge
I was honestly wondering where all the answers were—thinking I might have to just bang my head against the desk—but hey, I guess this works too 😬
honestly, it worked better for me as a game of association rather than like actual puzzles. if I didn't get the vibe right away, there was no way I was gonna figure it out just by staring at it—not really. though, I guess I used to solve rebus puzzles that way back in the day, yeah.😁
