Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Kimberly Perez82 said:Could we please try to be a little more civil? This is a direct reaction to those heart-wrenching stories that are incredibly one-sided. I really can't stand the principle where Person A is allowed to say whatever they want while Person B is shut down; it completely undermines the basic sense of order in the world that we hopefully moved past long ago.

Like, why does the US get to be in NATO while Ukraine doesn't? ☕

Look, I really can't stand it when people just refuse to see how they're basically shooting themselves in the foot, so I'm probably gonna have to add you to my ignore list along with the rest of them. 👋

Germany is looking into seizing parts of Nord Stream 2 - Der Spiegel

The German Ministry of Economy is reportedly weighing the possibility of expropriating portions of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline—which is mostly owned by Russia—to help move gas from terminals along the Baltic Sea, according to a report from Der Spiegel this Friday.

According to Der Spiegel, the Ministry is basically checking if they can just take over sections of the pipeline system located on German soil and split them off from the rest of the network.

The weekly publication mentions that this seized chunk of the pipeline would be used to transport gas arriving at an LNG terminal on the Baltic Sea.

Moscow chimed in on Friday, saying they have absolutely no comment regarding what Der Spiegel is reporting.

It’s pretty funny how they’re staying totally silent on this, yet they were all over the Lithuanian blockade of Kaliningrad like it was their job. ☕

Meanwhile, over on Russian TV, they are absolutely losing their minds because a US naval attaché was caught on camera while cycling past a "Z-symbol" flag; he stopped just long enough to flash them the middle finger. Now, some Russian MP is making these wild, aggressive threats, claiming they'll hunt him down regardless of any diplomatic immunity.

Russian MP losing his mind after a US naval attaché was filmed by Russian agents flipping of a “ Z-symbol on his way to work.

The Russian politician threatens that he has people out on the streets prepared to beat up the US diplomat.

And now they're even throwing around threats of "old-school street justice."😬

that little rascal said:Oh sure, just tell me who told you that, and maybe walk me through it with some actual arguments, deep analyses, historical facts, or whatever else makes it sound official. 🤣

Honestly, if someone feels the need to attach all that extra stuff to their point, they’re probably the one trying to argue against something everyone already knows is true. I mean, no sane person should really have to sit there providing a whole breakdown and analysis just to prove that 2+2 equals 4, right?

But hey, if you're still feeling skeptical, why don't you just go grab the NATO charter and give it a read.

Catch ya later.. 👋

So, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken just announced this massive financial push for the Three Seas Initiative on Monday, basically saying that this whole cooperation platform for 12 nations across Central and Eastern Europe has become way more significant ever since Russia decided to invade Ukraine.

Just for some context, the Three Seas Initiative is this informal political group made up of countries tucked between the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black Seas, and it was originally co-founded by the US and Poland.

It’s actually pretty wild that the membership includes the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and even Canada (???!?) 😬

Ukrainian officials mentioned on Saturday that Kyiv is looking to push forward with peace talks with Russia by the end of August once they've finished up their counteroffensive operations, even though things are still getting pretty intense out in the eastern part of the country.

Looks like they might be celebrating an August 5th national holiday too, haha 🙂

An American warship actually drifted into US territorial waters twice near Martha's Vineyard in the Atlantic Ocean this past Thursday, according to reports from the US Defense Command.

The corvette poked its nose into US waters just north of Manhattan, right near the larger island of Martha's Vineyard, officials confirmed on Friday.

Once the US Navy sent over a radio warning, the ship basically realized they messed up and cleared out of the area immediately.

Man, they are really out here trying to start something, aren't they? 🙄

Bradley King said:It sounds absolutely insane, I know, but honestly? It might actually be a win-win if Putin and the Russians were brought into NATO... They’d probably end up living much better lives than they are right now.

Well, there was actually an attempt at that right after the USSR collapsed, but the Americans basically just kept them on ice until they eventually gave up on waiting.

Man, Medvedev has seriously lost his marbles this time...

- Even diplomatic ties aren't really necessary anymore - he wrote.

- It's high time we just padlocked the embassies and limited our contact to staring at each other through binoculars and rifle scopes - he claims.

Everything is just going down the drain at 3 pm..

It doesn't help that he occasionally lashes out at women who weren't even interested in being with him in the first place.

😁

Totally agree, but looking at this specific mess, he isn't the one physically laying hands on anyone. He definitely stirred the pot, though. This absolute moron just lost his cool and now he’s going to get labeled as the bully. And then the USA will look back all wistfully and say, "Man, I really wanted to step in and help, but then Russia threatened to wipe out every man on the planet if I interfered..." Buhuh...

Anyway, with this move, Putin has basically cemented Russia's reputation as the ultimate villain for a long, long time... so much for that "chess" metaphor everyone was talking about...

gentleharbor3 said:Yeah, that's how the system works at its foundation.
Cruel, but that's just life.
There is no authority higher than the state itself.
States operate in a basically Hobbesian state of nature.
In a desperate bid for survival, they hoard power because nothing else exists to
guarantee their existence except raw strength.
That's why it's pointless to try and apply laws designed for a hierarchy
to a state of anarchy.
The rules imposed by institutions only really apply to the small players.
Without the big players, there are no institutions to begin with. Consequently, the giants
have enough muscle to bend any rule to suit their own needs.

Man... honestly, I think I'm sticking to what I figured out a while back. I truly believe we’re more likely to just wreck the entire planet than we are to actually evolve past this mindset that being the biggest bully in the room is the only way to feel secure.

vividtiger72 said:The only thing missing from your story is the part where America promises her mountains and valleys, offering endless gifts, and egging her on to cheat on Mr. Russia. America swears they'll protect her if Mr. Russia turns violent, but when that brute actually starts laying hands on her, America just sits there watching through the window, smiling and giving her a thumbs up, telling her to just hang in there because things will get better soon. 😁div>

So, what you're saying is it's totally fine to beat her just because she was misled by another liar, and that she actually deserves it?

Keith Williams3 said:But in geopolitics, there is no "judge"—there's just the three of them. That's one flaw with using analogies.

And hey, I think we finally hit the nail on the head regarding why we haven't learned a single thing in over 10,000 years.🙂

If there’s nobody around to call you out or hold you accountable, then you basically feel like you can just do whatever you want and grab whatever you want, because, well, who's going to stop you?

urbanotter said:I think we all feel the same way about the aggression itself—war is something that should always be condemned, and there's nothing worse than seeing it happen to any nation.
It really just comes down to how we differ in our perspectives on who or what actually triggered it.

Alright, I’m feeling a little poetic tonight, and honestly, one of my fellow forum ladies got me thinking with that whole thing about the girl 😬

So, picture this: Russia and Ukraine were in this intense, long-term relationship for years—walking hand in hand, going out to fancy dinners, the chemistry was just off the charts...

But then, a crisis hits, and suddenly Ukraine starts questioning everything, wondering if Russia is really the right partner for her. He’s a good guy, sure, but he’s also pretty controlling over a lot of things, and well, he was her first real love. She tells him she loves him, but she can't help but wonder if he’s being genuine or if he’s just playing her like all those other girls before her.

And you know how it goes—right in the middle of this relationship drama, this new guy swoops in. A total hunk of an American, incredibly handsome, loaded... promising her extravagant gifts, lifelong devotion, the royal treatment, and all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.

Ukraine, being young and a bit naive, falls head over heels for America, but there's still this lingering connection to Russia, making it so incredibly hard to just walk away after everything they’ve shared.

Russia, acting like a total macho man, senses something is off and realizes he's being cheated on.

He tries to convince her he’s the one, that he loves her, and that life is better with him. At the same time, he’s threatening America, telling them to stay out of his business and leave his girl alone, or things are going to get ugly.

Now Ukraine is totally torn; on one hand, there's that shared history and those sweet memories with Russia, but on the other, she’s drawn to America and that Hollywood shine—all these new experiences she never got to try because her boyfriend wouldn't let her.

So this tension builds, and Russia gets increasingly aggressive trying to reclaim what he feels is his. When his tactics don't work, he loses his cool. Since he isn't quite sure he can take on America in a fair fight—because, let's face it, America is a powerhouse—he turns his frustration on Ukraine, beating her senseless just to make sure she never even dreams of being with anyone else, let alone America.

Man, it’s actually pretty tough to decide who a jury would ultimately blame for all those injuries... hmm. 🤔

P.S.

My apologies to the ladies on the forum; I am strictly against any kind of violence toward women!☕

urbanotter said:We're all just stuck with this toxic mindset, honestly—partly because of our history, but mostly just because of that typical North American attitude we can't seem to shake.

I mean, does it even matter when we joined if they keep shouting from the rooftops that every single member gets an equal seat at the table?

But hey, feel free to think whatever you want.
When the EU rolls out COVID passes, we’ll be right there doing the same, and once the EU scraps them, we’ll follow suit and say "peace out" too.
If the EU decides Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca are the only way to go, then choosing anything else would basically be a cardinal sin.

What's really the difference compared to how things work in the US Congress?

Look, if a consensus is reached and the majority votes for it, yeah, you pretty much have to roll with it even if you absolutely hate the idea...

Actually, over here, you’ve even got options like Brexit... What kind of leverage does the opposition actually have in the US Congress when they get outvoted?

Gosh, I guess I was just being a bit naive thinking that on the politics pdf forum, more people might actually understand how the core of politics functions...

Alright then.... thought I'd throw in a little laugh for once 😁

Now one of those unstable dudes has gone off the deep end, started flirting back with the other guy, and decided that instead of letting her have any fun, he’s gonna demand she only flirts with him and nobody else.

It's either be mine or be nobody's at all.
