Is there anything out there I can read regarding the panel discussion? I'm curious how everything went down—was it actually worth the hype? I couldn't make it, so I'm feeling a bit out of the loop, I guess.
I was over at Union Square earlier today. Honestly, the staff there were incredibly helpful—they actually went out of their way to sell me a ticket for someone else entirely, even though I didn't have that person's phone number or any way to contact them or anything... basically handled it all over the phone. 👍
Don't go trusting Last.fm blindly. A few years back, when they were promoting the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the site was such an absolute disaster zone that it practically required intervention from the higher-ups just to get things cleaned up.

...honestly, there isn't such a thing as "bad music," except maybe for certain pop tracks and Lady Gaga (and whoever else falls into that category, I suppose)...

Well, congratulations, you actually managed to prove a point in a single post. 😉

The tickets should be going on sale sometime in the next few days, I think. 🙂

As far as I can tell, right now we’re looking at a top-tier lineup—maybe a solid 2.5 out of 3—but then again, I watched the old lineups before and it always seemed like they were hitting that 3/3 mark, whether I felt that way or not. 🤷

Hae, people will buy tickets on the seventeenth regardless of whether there's a new announcement or not.

Yeasayer - Contra

This album feels... I don't know, kind of detached? It’s as if they decided to push themselves right to the edge of their own limits—to see where they actually break. In that sort of restless searching, they stumbled onto some truly beautiful tracks, and through all that internal wandering, they managed to craft some of the most stunning lyrics I've heard in a while. At the end of the day, people are just flesh and blood—even if some of them are Indian.

Biggest hit: O.N.E.

Honestly, I think this track alone is already capable of sitting comfortably in the top five hits, especially considering we're only at the start of 2010. I can't wait to see which other songs from the record might eventually join it up there.

Live, Yeasayer - O.N.E.

This thread is for anyone looking to revisit the albums released back in 2010. It’s essentially a space for music critics—or those who fancy themselves as such—to share their thoughts on the 2010 releases.

For those actually contributing: I'd ask you to write just a few words—maybe even just a couple of sentences—about an album you feel is worth owning if we lived in some imaginary utopia where money wasn't an issue for buying records. Your contribution could be as brief as two descriptive tags, or even just the kind of tags you'd slap onto an album profile on Last.fm.

As per the usual rules for threads like this in years past, please try to stick to just one album per post, even if that means you have to make several consecutive posts to get through your list.
Albums
Feel Good Lost (2001)
You Forgot It in People (2002)
BSS (2005) (US #105, UK #80)
Rock Record (2010)

B-Side Albums
Bee Hives (2004)

Indie Rock Scene Presents...
Kevin Drew - Spirit if... (2007)
Brendan Canning - Something for All of US... (2008)

I might have gotten a bit ahead of myself there—those last two are technically "solo" albums, I suppose, though practically everyone from the usual band lineup and their circle of collaborators shows up on them anyway.
That whole Kevin Drew Presents: Indie Rock Scene thing was just awful. They actually took it on tour—I caught them live back in October 2007, if my memory serves me right.

EDIT: My apologies, Indie Rock Scene Presents: Kevin Drew - Spirit if...
Just go ahead and download those Albums Feel Good Lost ( 2001 ) You Forgot It in People and Indie Rock Scene records—honestly, everything else just doesn't quite hit the same. I mean, they'll probably play some newer stuff, I suppose, but those two are absolute classics. As for the rest of the lineup... I don't know, I'm mostly just yawning. To be fair, though, I haven't even given their latest release a listen yet.
Best tribute bands? in Music ·
So, if my memory serves me right—and it's a bit fuzzy these days—I actually paid my way into seeing both The Beatles revival acts and those tribute bands for The Cure. I genuinely enjoyed both shows, truly. Though, I think I leaned a bit more toward The Beatles revival... mainly because they didn't seem obsessed with perfectly mimicking every single breath or sigh of their idols. They actually seemed to have a bit of their own personality, which is rare, I guess. But then again, that was a long time ago, so maybe I'm just misremembering how it all went down.

Alright, look, it’s probably not actually *that* hilarious—I mostly just had to mess around with the graphics for this—😳 but honestly, it feels almost inevitable that it’ll go down exactly like that.
TBA = To be announced.

They’ll probably put it out there. Maybe.
Well, everything he promised for this past year actually happened—more or less—though, admittedly, there were a couple of cancellations along the way. But I suppose there isn't much to be done about that; even the massive festivals like Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival deal with those kinds of setbacks now and then.
Hey, Samuel Murphy6, any chance you could get Paul and Ring together?
Journalists' take on live shows in Music ·
Sometimes you head out to a concert just to catch up with people—to socialize, I suppose—and it turns into an absolute disaster. Other times, you're at one of those exact same types of shows and it’s actually legendary. Either way, you always end up with enough material to write about.
I mean, really, what else is there to it anyway?!

I suppose I’d go see him live too—even though I’m not exactly the biggest fan of seeing artists like that booked for massive festivals. It’s hard to picture someone like Beirut or Bill Callahan playing Coachella alongside a group like MGMT, you know? It isn't even about whether the band is good or not; it’s just that their specific brand of music feels like it needs a much more intimate setting to really work.

Bill Callahan was exactly what he needed to be <3, though he was on a significantly smaller stage, but I guess that doesn't matter much. Grizzly Bear played a pretty large stage and they were fantastic. They shared the lineup with Micachu & The Shapes, Tortoise, and Gang Gang Dance... Meanwhile, Bon Iver shared the biggest "indie" stage with Fever Ray, Vampire Weekend, Whitest Boy Alive, and My Bloody Valentine... Every single one of them delivered the kind of performance I was hoping for. Well, except for Bill—since he mostly stuck to songs from his last two albums (the ones released under his own name), excluding Cold Blooded Old Times, but that's a whole other conversation. Honestly, I was looking for a two-and-a-half-hour set from him, not a fifty-minute cameo. 😁

And look, I’ve tolerated all sorts of absolute jerks in my time—honestly, I've seen some pretty questionable characters pass for talent—but he just isn't quite at the level where I'd put up with a performance like that. That said, if you're the type of person who lives for this stuff, I suppose it could be viewed as pure genius. You've got two drummers, a massive, spectacular wall of sound... it's impressive, in its own way. It works for some people. I wish it worked for me, but, well, life goes on.

So, look—Grizzly Bear put on a stunning show. Bill Callahan was equally incredible, too. They were even playing the same venue. But they didn't really engage with the crowd in that... I don't know, effortless way. It wasn't cheap or forced, per se, but it just wasn't there. That kind of connection is more what you'd expect from bands like Vampire Weekend or Whitest Boy Alive—groups where that sort of rapport actually feels natural. And those guys were great. I don't know, I guess it just left me feeling a bit unsettled.
