No, wait—I actually meant Wombats. 🙂 I’ve always had a soft spot for listening to Los Campesinos! Though, I suppose I might have been a bit too caught up in that whole Joy Division thing. 😬
Not gonna lie, I think San Francisco beats The Beach Boys three times over—though, granted, I’m judging them based on a single (!) song I actually sat through. A track that, honestly, managed to encapsulate every bit of misery perfectly.

It’s not like I’m a fan of every single act on this list—not really—but they’re all pretty solid bands, more or less.
By the way, there are these things called Indie Pop-Rock Dance Nights, where you can find just about anything. Like this one.
Ugh, luckily the music hadn't started yet; I managed to make it just in time to smash a window. DNO DNA 🙂 These types of nerds always seem to find a way to screw up everything good in indie rock. 😠
Megan Brooks91 said:Music and visual art just don't work on the same evaluation scale. I was just thinking—maybe more people should look at all those obscure ways to rate an album, because honestly, that's the only way you'd ever escape the trap of pure subjectivity. Not having one critic absolutely worship a band because they have some personal connection there, while another critic thinks they're garbage...
Let me say this again—you can't just dissect music or fine art into basic little components like it's some kind of math problem. It doesn't work that way. I mean, look at some of the incredible modern indie releases where the production is intentionally lo-fi, sort of gritty and raw. What then? Should someone give it a failing grade for "production quality" instead of realizing that the production is actually serving the overall vibe of the song—or the album—as a whole piece of art?
I definitely agree that we need more voices offering critical perspectives on every piece of art out there, but I disagree with breaking it down so each person only judges one specific element. If you do that, you're just handing a monopoly over certain technical aspects back to a handful of specialized critics. In a way, you're just dividing the unfairness into smaller pieces.
Megan Brooks91 said:I honestly think it would be better if they evaluated an album from several different angles—like, one person focuses on the production quality, another looks at the technical skill behind the playing, and so on—so they could eventually come together to form a collective consensus. At the end of the day, though, every single one of their comments is just their own subjective take anyway...
I don't know, dissecting music that way seems kind of pointless to me. It’s almost like saying you need one art critic to judge the quality of the canvas, another to analyze the pigment composition, a third to talk about the figurative content, and a fourth to debate the social impact of the piece.
Sure, I suppose having multiple perspectives helps build a fuller picture, but an artistic work is—for the most part—an indivisible whole. Trying to specialize by slicing it up into tiny pieces just feels a bit futile, if you ask me.
So, I went ahead and listened to maybe 50 albums released—whether they actually hit physical shelves or just exist as digital files—within the US over this past year (that number was a total guess, and honestly, looking back, I probably should have said 500) along with several dozen thousand from around the rest of the world. 👍
After doing all that, would you mind, please, just jotting down a few sentences about each one? I simply don't have the bandwidth to listen to everything myself—and since you're clearly such a saint who wouldn't dream of being anything but honest and sincere, I figure you'll give me the real truth without any bitterness. 👍
So, what—is everyone just supposed to nod along and pretend everything is fantastic? Criticism is absolutely vital for any art form, much like it is for pretty much every other corner of society, I suppose. Now, obviously, it’s not going to sit well with me if some critic decides to write that Radiohead is nothing more than pretentious garbage, but hey, if that’s truly how you feel, then by all means, put it in print. The real issue arises when these critics are essentially on the payroll of the major record labels, acting as glorified PR agents for people who, frankly, haven't earned a shred of the hype they receive.
And if a critic manages to ruin someone's life? Well, I guess that life was already pretty much worthless to begin with, wasn't it?
I heard you call my name Why do you sit in silence When there's a whole world waiting | there is Between these islands I lay my love down to make you this bridge But when the tide runs out I'm still at the water's edge there's a deep deep ocean | there is I want to find out what you hide inside of that Deep deep ocean What's it take for you to be satisfied you walk alone AT Night sol secretive and quiet i hear The roar of Your heartbeat sol why So secretive and quiet I hear the roar of your heartbeat So why do you deny it Hold me and show me my love can't be wrong | cannot And I'll be swept away | I will By the storm beneath your calm there's a deep deep ocean | there is I want to find out what you hide inside of that Deep deep ocean What's it take for you to be satisfied | what is If you keep holdin' back emotion | 😲 holding One of US might drown in this Deep Deep ocean What's it gonna take | what is it going to What's it gonna be | what is it going to When you gonna break and open up to me | hmm... I suppose it could be "when are you going to," though I'm not entirely certain since it doesn't explicitly say "when're" or anything similar
Okay, I guess I'm exaggerating—and these aren't errors quite like fu*k What i Said , IT don't mean shit now, but they're still something of a mess, I suppose.
David from Sheffield - I was expecting something decent, but honestly, it turned out to be incredible. My expectations for Seven were already pretty high to begin with, and they were definitely met. Though, I have to say, the heat and the smoke really started getting to me—it was a bit much—so I ended up retreating to a spot where the air is a little murkier, just so I could actually catch my breath.
I’m thinking about finally starting a thread dedicated to Outsider art. I suspect I might get some pushback—people can be so precious about these things—but I don't know, I find it pretty compelling at first glance. Sure, the performances are often brilliant, but then there's that certain level of absurdity that just feels... well, ridiculous. 😳
Eh, I keep forgetting that I'm one of the few people actually left with enough perspective to see the big picture here—not that anyone else seems to notice.
