Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
So, I’ve finally reached that stage where I’m hunting for a new tub of whey, and I’m really on the lookout for a solid value play—something in a larger size that doesn't sneak any aspartame into the mix. Any recommendations?

Anyone have any thoughts on Inkospor whey?

I make it a point never to hit the gym on an empty stomach; I usually grab a bite about an hour or two beforehand, though by the time I’ve actually finished my workout, I find myself absolutely famished.

velvetraven said:My take is you grab some whey mixed with dextrose and water right after your workout, then wait maybe an hour or two before sitting down for a full meal once your stomach settles a bit. The whole idea here is to capitalize on how quickly that whey hits your system; if you go and eat a massive plate of food immediately, you're just going to slow down that absorption process.

I wouldn't wait that long, though. You should probably eat sooner than an hour or two. It usually takes about half an hour for the whey to digest...

If it were me, I’d probably just grab some Dymatize Elite Whey over at Nutrix. It costs a bit less, too—and sure, it’s just your standard whey, but you aren't dealing with any of that aspartame nonsense...

At the end of the day, whey isolate is still just whey; it’s just a slightly higher grade of the same stuff...

Look, you're paying for an isolate here, which explains the price tag; if you just want a standard whey, you can definitely pick something up for a lot less.

Brenda Davis22 said:Have you never heard of oats? They’re actually fantastic. I've got a 500g bag sitting right here in my pantry, about 12--$4.25.

Honestly, if you just head to a big-box retailer like Walmart or Target, they're way cheaper there...

I’m a bit lost here—what exactly do you mean by "artificial" proteins? Every protein supplement we use is derived from natural sources anyway (for instance, Whey Isolate comes straight from whey).

Yeah, they suck. Honestly, what part of that isn't clicking?

I’ve been sticking to a banana protein shake lately. 😍 You know, I was thinking about that wild flavor combination you get when you mix chocolate with strawberry-flavored oatmeal. Honestly, it’s such a crazy pairing, but man, it hits the spot—it ends up tasting almost exactly like a decadent milkshake or some high-end ice cream. 😍

John Doe 😁

wearyotter81 As if I haven't heard this one before...
Heh, yeah, you could say that. 😁

Sometimes, when I'm sticking to a cleaner diet, I’ll mix some whey protein with a few drops of lemon or vanilla extract. Honestly, it turns into this incredible, makeshift ice cream—it's surprisingly good. I even went down a bit of a rabbit hole once, experimenting with whipped egg whites, whey, and gelatin before tossing the whole mess into the freezer. It was quite the undertaking, let me tell you.
Oh man, I honestly might have to dive back into that; it completely slipped my mind. 🙂

Good grief, don't you go giving me any bright ideas like that. 🙂 😁

wearyotter81 said:As for that strawberry flavor and all that hidden sugar tucked away inside, let's just pretend it doesn't exist. 😉

I mean, at the end of the day, you're already mixing that shake with glucose anyway, so what's a little extra sugar in the water going to do? It’s really not that big of a deal. 🙂

Look, I wouldn't go calling it perfect, but honestly, it holds its own just as well as most of the other stuff out there on the market.

slytrucker47 said:Honestly, Pro.Nutrition is just a decent enough brand.

Yeah, they aren't terrible, but let's be real—it’s basically a local outfit that imports all their raw ingredients from overseas and just handles the packaging here in the States. My biggest gripe with them is that they mostly stick to those tiny, inconvenient sizes. If you look at the higher-end stuff available in larger tubs, there's actually quite a bit of variety to choose from. To be blunt, it's probably easier to just give you a list of brands to steer clear of, specifically MuscleTech and Optimum Nutrition. For most of the others, you generally get exactly what you pay for.

You've got a few options within walking distance of the plaza, but I'd say Helix is probably the most well-known one in the area.

They actually have a map right there on their website if you need to pin down the exact location.

Alright, let's wrap this up—fat is fat, plain and simple. Whether it’s coming off your ribs or your gut, it's all the same deal, and if anyone actually wants to get into the weeds on this, they can go find the dedicated megathread for it. I'm locking this now.

And honestly, do you have any idea how many people walk around with incredible physiques without ever stepping foot in a gym?
Look, I’m not looking for an argument here, but maybe do some actual research before speaking up.🙂

Me, do some research? I honestly can't decide whether to laugh or just facepalm at a claim that ridiculous; I think everyone else on this board would agree with me, though I suppose you'll be the sole exception to that rule.

I find myself grabbing them every once in a while too, just to have something to munch on; honestly, they’re better than nothing at all when I've gone too long without a decent meal.

How much is your bike worth anyway?

That’s actually why, when I was biking down to the coast, I ended up ditching the quick-release mechanism on my seat post and just swapped it out for a standard bolt. I couldn't mess with the quick-releases on the wheels itself because of the luggage racks, 🙂

quietpilot87 said:Thanks for the tip 👍 I'll definitely check out that route🙂

It isn't hard to find, though you might wander around a little the first time you try it, but you'll figure it out eventually. The easiest way is to head south on Broadway (which basically flows right into the Golden Gate Bridge area), pass by the freight yard, and then take a left behind it; if you cross over the overpass, you'll land right in San Jose. When you're heading back later, you can cut through Brooklyn—that's probably the best bet if you want to avoid getting lost on your first run.

You can see everything right here:

Just head a tiny bit north from where you start; if you look northeast above the beltway, you'll spot the freight yard...

Mark Hill82 said:Honestly, this guide is so muddled I might just write "Don't Panic" right on the front cover.🙂

If you take those subways under Broadway, you’re stuck dealing with stairs, which means hauling your bike up and down like a maniac... personally, I think it's much smoother to stick to Main Avenue. You just loop around the Branimir intersection and then head south on Broadway—stick to the east side, though, because the west side is a total nightmare thanks to the buses that are always packed with people who clearly have zero situational awareness. Once you hit the intersection of the Vukovar-style district and Broadway, you can just cruise down towards the main artery for as long as you need.

Dennis Lewis6 said:Running isn't actually going to melt away body fat. If you want to burn through fat, you need resistance training. Most local gyms have plenty of chest machines, so you're better off just signing up for a membership there.

Bokte, honestly, who on earth taught you that? I mean, how many people do you actually know who run regularly but still struggle with stubborn fat? On the flip side, you can find plenty of those soft, doughy bodybuilders everywhere you look.
