Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Jeffrey Perez40 said:What would you recommend for bulking? Are those gainers actually effective for putting on mass?

That’s essentially just a gainer anyway. Honestly, if I were you, I'd just grab some high-quality, pure Whey and some Glucose.

Jeffrey Perez40 said:What's the harm if I just stick to that one? Keeping things clean... without mixing in all those other protein powders.

Not much. Honestly, it’s probably more useful for my own peace of mind than anything else.

Just take a look at the nutrition label and you'll see for yourself how little actual protein is in there. Honestly, you're better off just grabbing some decent Whey—ideally something unflavored or plain 🙂—and mixing it with that gainer on roughly a 1:1 ratio. That way, you can basically use the gainer as a substitute for Glucose in your post-workout shake.

Oh, please, spare me the baby talk about the weather. I remember one winter when we had a massive blizzard hitting the coast, and I actually rode my bike all the way to work through the snow...

Well, I seem to pick up a different brand of Whey every single time I shop. Honestly, I feel like I've cycled through about 75% of the different types of Whey available on the market here in the States 🤣, and I make it a point to steer clear of the junk brands like Biotech or MuscleTech.

I'm really just hunting for the absolute best chocolate flavor out there. So far, my top pick has been Labrada ProV60 (man, it tastes incredible, but the price tag definitely hurts a bit...) 😍

Exactly. I guess that explains why there aren't nearly as many serious lifters out there as you'd think... 🙄>

Timothy Wright74 said:if you could get fat just from eating protein, even a fall bear would be bursting out of its skin after an egg breakfast.

The truth is, you can definitely pack on some extra weight from protein alone; it really just comes down to how much you're consuming overall.

If your goal is actually building mass, you’ve got to put in heavy work at the gym and eat significantly more than you think you need.

Rachel Garcia57 said:hmm... so what's actually the point of taking L-carnitine then?

There isn't one. Like I said before, it’s pretty much useless.

Rachel Garcia57 said:It’s funny how you can walk into any gym or even just scroll through a fitness forum and find people arguing like they’re debating politics. You’ve got one group swearing by certain methods to drop a few pounds, acting like it's the holy grail, and then immediately you run into another crowd insisting it's a total waste of time or even counterproductive. Honestly, it leaves me feeling pretty conflicted. I'm sitting here caught right in the middle of all this conflicting advice, just trying to make sense of what actually works.😕

Honestly, it’s pretty much useless. You aren't actually getting a boost from the supplement itself; they just pack it with a bunch of other stuff like caffeine or sugar to create that artificial surge of energy. If you're looking for a real kick, you're better off just grabbing a cup of black coffee or some unsweetened green tea. It’s much cleaner.

First off, I’d say ditch the L-carnitine; it's honestly just extra noise you don't need. Beyond that, those specialized weight loss supplements are pretty much a waste of money. If you want to be smart about it, maybe stick to some multivitamins or minerals to cover your bases since you're eating less, and definitely get some Omega-3s in there.

As for the specifics on your training split or exactly what your meal timing should look like, you can find all that laid out in the master thread at the top of the forum.

Rachel Garcia57 said:Why does it matter if I mix it with water instead of milk? I usually go with Optimum Nutrition whey, chocolate flavor, and I always mix it with milk... though sometimes I'll just do half milk and half water.
What’s the actual difference, besides the taste, obviously? Plus, milk adds even more protein to the mix, so...😕

The thing is, milk slows down how quickly the whey gets processed by your body. Since you're hitting that shake right after a workout specifically because you want those nutrients hitting your bloodstream as fast as possible, you don't really want to drag that process out.

Since your legs make up the largest muscle group in your body, they end up doing the heavy lifting and burning through the most energy during a workout.

I’m honestly on the fence about whether I should just wrap this thread up or leave it open, especially since there are plenty of other discussions out there where everything has already been thoroughly covered.

Hey everyone, I’m heading out for a round of bridge, so feel free to keep bickering while I'm gone—and don't come complaining to me later that I didn't weigh in on the drama. 🤣

atlantis said:I'm definitely going to get banned right now😁 but 😬

No, you won't...

atlantis said:why don't you guys set it up so the thread clears itself out over time...

For instance, maybe every week we just wipe any posts older than ten days that aren't actually adding anything useful to the conversation...

I think the core of what I was trying to say was that nobody is really digging through the archives anyway; people usually just skim the last two or three replies. If that's the case, leaving a bunch of extra comments feels pretty pointless, especially if those comments weren't originally meant for the people they're directed at. We don't need another endless chat room thread, because that's exactly how these discussions tend to devolve.

Essentially, here are your options:

1. No comments allowed at all in the food log threads.
2. Constructive feedback is fine, but anything that isn't helpful will be penalized (perhaps a bit more strictly than usual).

To put it bluntly, it looks like someone else finally noticed that too. 🤣

Anyway, it's probably time for me to clear out these old posts we've been dragging along and let us start (almost) from scratch. We've drifted way too far from the original topic.

Because the moderator doesn't exactly have nothing better to do than hunt down every decent post on the board all day.🤣

It's actually a pretty useful supplement, especially if you pair it up with a decent fat burner.

Linda Castillo94 said:Honestly, I don't really need some grand theory to try and debunk what I already know, because I've felt the effects firsthand.

And are you absolutely certain the results would have been different if you hadn't taken it? Assuming, of course, that your diet and workout routine stayed exactly the same?

Linda Castillo94 said:There's always a million theories floating around, where one group claims this and another claims that,
so why can't you just accept the simple fact that my own experience tells me it actually works.

Did you even bother reading the article in the link? This isn't about debating random theories; we're talking about actual, proven scientific research here.

You don't have to, and honestly, it’s probably better if you don't.

I actually put together a deep dive in one of my older posts regarding L-carnitine, which breaks down some of the actual scientific studies on the subject. If you happen to stumble upon anything else out there that backs up your "theory," definitely let me know:

Jamie Palmer said:Honestly, I’ve reached a point where all that camping and waking up at the crack of dawn just leaves me feeling completely stiff from the cold and the dampness... these days, I only travel if I can book a private room ahead of time, which takes all the stress out of the trip.

That works, provided you actually get it sorted before you leave, because let's be real—most people renting out a room aren't exactly looking for a one-night guest to crash on their couch.
