What stopped him from just staying with Hamilton and overtaking the Stake F1 Team? Just watch the replay. He almost got rear-ended by Felipe Massa. He braked because he was probably thinking, "I'll just complain now, Hamilton will take the hit, I'm in a Ferrari, and Ferrari pulls the strings." Well, it didn't work. Can't blame anyone but him.☕

It's not like this hasn't happened before; Hamilton isn't the first or the last guy to pull something like this. But the thing is, Alonso and Massa were right there—literally three meters away—and it's a massive waste that they didn't capitalize. It was the perfect Ferrari strategy:
Alonso overtakes the Stake F1 Team and stays out until the very end of the race.
Massa stays behind the Stake F1 Team and pits.

They could have both won, or at least one of them. Instead, they both walked away empty-handed.

I agree, Hamilton is a complete jerk. Between blaming Sebastian Vettel and whining about how "Vettel hit me,"🙂"🙄", it's exhausting. But the whole situation with the Stake F1 Team is just basic situational awareness. It's not like we're waiting for the FIA's decision; these calls happen all the time even after the race (just look at the rest of the teams). His move actually makes sense, plus he has a decent excuse since Vettel was ahead of the Stake F1 Team.

If Alonso hadn't messed up, Hamilton would have been properly screwed.😉
Hamilton honestly owes him a thank-you note for being such a coward. If Alonso hadn't flinched, the decision wouldn't have been handed down until after the race.🤣
That penalty would have been 25 seconds. I have no clue where Hamilton would have landed in that chaos, but he definitely wouldn't have been second. At best, maybe fifth or sixth.🤣 Besides, who's to say he wouldn't have collided with Vettel again or ended up crashing out with him? Sometimes keeping your mouth shut is the smarter play.😉

They might have even stripped him of his win after the race; God knows what kind of penalty he would've faced, but one thing is certain: he would've gotten punished.
It's not even impossible that he would've finished behind Alonso with zero points if Alonso had just stayed quiet.🤣

Sure, what happened at the end wasn't fair or honest. But then again, it wasn't "fair" when Alonso was at Ferrari while Kimi wasn't even in Formula 1. It wasn't "fair" when Jenson Button won the title with that semi-legal Brawn GP outfit. It wasn't "fair" when Michael Schumacher snatched several titles in a massively privileged Ferrari. It wasn't "fair" that Alonso even got back into Formula 1 after that mess at McLaren and the Nelson Piquet wall incident. Nothing is ever truly fair. That's just life. You can't expect everyone to follow the rules and play nice while others get away with being total bastards.

The guy saw the Safety Car on track and stayed behind it, just like the rules—and common sense—dictate.
Hamilton completely ignored it, and if you ask me, he should have been handed a stop-and-go penalty rather than just a drive-through. ☕
It’s just like when certain drivers have ignored the red lights in the pit lane (including Hamilton) and got absolutely shredded for it... and you can bet your life they won't be doing that again. 😉

He was lucky enough to be in exactly the right place at just the right moment...http://www.twitpic.com/2054j6

On the flip side, about two years ago, I found myself in the right place but at a completely wrong time, which resulted in me snapping this shot of this guy (whoever he may be) 😢

I was actually just wondering when a certain SlowMotion fan might resurface; they've been a bit quiet lately, haven't they? 🤣🤣

just so you know, I'm with you on that.
I might just reopen this tomorrow if anyone feels like sharing their thoughts on the race. ☕

Bradley Nelson2 said:What’s with these 5-second penalties now? Back when they unfairly penalized Schumacher in Monaco, everyone was claiming they could only hand out a 25-second penalty after the race. Now it seems like those rules only apply when Schumacher is the one getting penalized. 🤮

As for the race, I think Kubica could have driven better. My gut tells me that Renault can actually be pretty fast in these kinds of conditions. Luckily he didn't try to overtake Rubin, or he might have just ended up straight into the wall. Props to Kamui for his driving; he managed to milk the situation for everything it was worth. Webber -> retirement ☕

A penalty for that kind of infraction can only ever be 25 seconds.😉

Of course, because race control never actually signaled that overtaking was permitted.😉

Hulk is... but since he pulled out... 😂

Rebecca Fox4 said:I'm not exactly a Hamilton fan, but it isn't all his fault (despite what Alonso fans claim), because here is yet another blunder...:

The F1 Safety Car (SC) features a light bar on its roof with both yellow and green lights; that green light is specifically there to signal that the driver directly following the SC is cleared to overtake. Once the race leader is right behind the SC, the yellow lights go on.

It isn't quite as black and white as you're making it out to be.

When the SC is out on track, overtaking is strictly prohibited. Nobody passes anyone, under any circumstances, until Race Control gives the green light.
Only once the field has lined up—and provided the leader isn't already tucked in behind the SC—does Race Control signal that drivers can begin passing the SC. That's when the green light turns on (which is exactly what we saw during the race) until the moment the leader catches up to the back of the pack, at which point the yellow lights come on and overtaking is banned again.

Maria Nelson2 said:What kind of penalty? Just 5 seconds 🤣🤣

That puts Fernando in eighth 🙏🙏

Look, if Hemić received a drive-through penalty (which is basically 25 seconds) for overtaking the SC, then a 5-second penalty for a minor infraction actually makes sense, doesn't it? 😉

stormyviper11 said:Mercedes thinks Schumacher shouldn't have been allowed to run with red lights on his exit from the pits

If they're actually right—and honestly, they might be—then this whole race was just one massive organizational disaster, easily the worst we've seen in years...

But look, you had Montoya, Kimi, Hamilton, and Massa dealing with similar situations in Canada, where they either caught a penalty for exiting on red or had to wait and ended up crossing the line anyway. 😉
The rule is what it is, plain and simple.

It isn't necessarily required for the SC to pass directly by the pit lane; rather, the rule applies to all cars on track. Perhaps the wording is a bit vague, but that is essentially how it works. 😉

Everyone got hit with a 5-second penalty, except for Glock, who took a massive 20-second one.😉

Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello, Nico Hulkenberg, Robert Kubica, Vitaly Petrov, Adrian Sutil, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Sebastien Buemi, Pedro de la Rosa, Kamui Kobayashi

Kamui can only move up if something happens to these guys, especially right in front of that Spanish jerk. 🙂

That’s the crew that headed into the pits right when the Safety Car came out on track. The big question is whether they all ran through on red, or what? I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds.

If they're found to be in the wrong, they'll likely face a 25-second penalty, which would knock pretty much everyone out of the points.

What a drive, pure Kamikaze 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I mean, even Chandok might have been able to drive like that on fresh, soft tires
He wouldn't have overtaken anyone quite like that, though... 😬

I don't know what those guys on TV are getting at, but I listen to these news anchors and they keep pushing this narrative about a line that Hemic wasn't even allowed to take before
I didn't really get it
Not sure if Jergovic is even mentioning it🤷

What they're talking about is that line at the very end of the pit exit—not the initial one by the lights, but the one marking the end of the pit lane corridor. If Lewis Hamilton had crossed the SC before hitting that mark, nobody would have said a word.
