Zoloft in Health ·
mistyhound2 said:Fluoxetine really does take about 2 or 3 weeks to actually start "working." Usually, the side effects die down pretty quickly, but if they don't—well, she needs to talk to her psychiatrist. Honestly, there are plenty of much better antidepressants out there than this stuff. Personally, I wouldn't even think about prescribing fluoxetine to my own patients.

And you're a psychiatrist too? Which meds do you actually think are better?
Zoloft in Health ·
Hey there.

My mom was recently diagnosed with depression and got prescribed Zoloft. She’s about two weeks into it now, and honestly, the side effects are kicking my ass. We're talking weakness, nausea, shaky legs, zero appetite... I get that some of this overlaps with actual depression symptoms, but the Zoloft seems to be cranking them up to eleven. Her doctor told her to hang in there for three weeks until the meds actually kick in and said the side effects should taper off after 7-10 days, but for her, they just aren't letting up.
Has anyone else here dealt with Zoloft? Did you run into nasty side effects, and if so, how long did you have to suffer through them before things leveled out?
Any advice would be huge.

Hey there.

My mom was recently diagnosed with depression and started on Prozac. She’s about two weeks into it now, and honestly, the side effects are hitting her pretty hard. We're talking weakness, nausea, shaky legs, loss of appetite... I get that some of this overlaps with her actual depression symptoms, but the Prozac seems to be cranking them up a notch. Her doctor told us to hang in there for three weeks until the meds actually kick in, saying the side effects should taper off after 7 to 10 days, but for her, they just aren't letting up.
Has anyone else dealt with Prozac? Did you run into similar side effects, and if so, how long did you have to suffer through them before things leveled out?
Any advice would be appreciated.

When was that? I'm checking out their site right now and I don't see him listed under neurology. It just shows Dr. Potkonjak and Radić.

Hey there!

I could really use some help. Can anyone recommend a solid private neurologist in New York City? I’m looking for someone you’ve actually seen personally or have heard great things about.
I want to get an appointment booked soon. Also, does anyone know if they take credit cards (like Diners Club...)?

thanks
Heartburn/Chest burning sensation in Health ·
Lately, I’ve been dealing with this weird burning sensation in my chest. Honestly, I can’t even tell what’s causing it—could be a side effect from the Mirena, some antidepressants I'm on, maybe something with my spine? Or just random stuff.

Where can I get a full cardiac workup? in Health ·
I swung by the Mayo Clinic over in Saint Louis the other day, $233 - had my cardiology checkup done with an ultrasound and an EKG, plus $133 some stress testing too. I've been going to them for a while now. Honestly, their specialists are top-tier.
Sunspots and hyperpigmentation help! in Health ·
Hey there!

I’ve been dealing with these annoying sunspots all over my face, and obviously, they get ten times worse once summer hits. I finally reached my breaking point and decided it's time to actually do something about them.
Has anyone here gone through this? Like, have you seen a dermatologist or a high-end esthetician? What kind of treatments actually work, and what am I looking at in terms of pricing?
Dr. Demarin in Health ·
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!
Dr. Demarin in Health ·
Hey there!
Has anyone here actually seen Dr. Demarin? She’s a neurologist. I was wondering if she takes patients privately anywhere else, or if you can only see her at the hospital over on Washington Street via a referral.

Thanks!
Here’s the breakdown from a professional standpoint:

BPPV—positional vertigo—is actually the most common type out there. It usually gets triggered by moving your head the wrong way or being in a weird position, like when you're rolling over in bed, lying down, or tilting your head back too far. It typically lasts less than a minute, and you might deal with some rhythmic eye twitching, though your hearing should stay totally normal. These episodes can pop up every few days or even disappear for months at a time before coming back. Most of the time, positional vertigo doesn't even require treatment. But, if the dizzy spells get frequent or intense enough, doctors might use a procedure to break up or shift those tiny calcium particles sitting in the semicircular canals of your inner ear.
It’s just positional vertigo. It's benign, so there’s nothing to worry about regarding tumors or anything scary like that. Basically, it means the dizziness is triggered by how you move your head. Like, if you turn your head one way, everything starts spinning.

I've been seeing Dr. Božičević Radić at Student Health Services over in Times Square since my college days, and honestly, she’s just incredible.
Here, if you want her number, see if you can manage to switch over to her practice: 4603612
