Regarding the water intake, just don't go overboard in short bursts because -> it isn't healthy
I’m not trying to sound paranoid or anything, I just want to warn you so you don't end up thinking one liter isn't enough and suddenly chugging two, three, or five 🤷

In the past, I used to drink a ton of water all at once and I never actually felt nauseous from it, I just felt super bloated and was running to the bathroom every five minutes for the next few hours. It didn't really have anything to do with my digestion either.

🙄 You can sort out your health with decent food, but it’s a slow burn. I doubt a schizophrenic is going to stop hallucinating just because they really, really want to 🙄

I'm definitely against using laxatives. Most people (not saying everyone, obviously) basically put themselves in a corner with terrible eating habits. People spend years slowly poisoning themselves, then expect everything to flip overnight. It doesn't work like that. Just eat some prunes and use your head ☕

steelpanther11 said:So, I’m looking for some advice or recommendations. I'm a 26-year-old student and I need to get a thyroid ultrasound done here in NYC, plus I have to see an internist regarding my diabetes... uh, where would you guys suggest I go?

Thanks so much

My mom’s getting her thyroid ultrasound done at the Sunce clinic and she's actually pretty happy with them. 🙂
alright, thanks a ton 🙏

I'm not an expert in neuropsychiatry or internal medicine, but honestly? You shouldn't even start talking about "ruling out physical causes" for symptoms this vague without checking hormone levels—specifically the thyroid and maybe cortisol—and a full electrolyte panel. Trying to bypass that with just an ECG or some Doppler scans feels like straight-up heresy...

They've sent me for a bunch of tests. So far, I've only knocked out the blood work and the EEG. Still need to get my thyroid checked, do some psychological testing, and get a brain CT. Some of these have long wait times and others are quicker; the blood work was the only thing I could actually get done through my own doctor.

I'm mostly just wondering if everything looks okay in these blood results. 🙂
Regarding the age and why I'm being tested—I only included that because the intro post mentioned providing a reason helps everyone understand the context better. 🙂
I'm 22. My psychiatrist sent me for this blood work because they wanted to rule out any physical causes for my mental health struggles.
Low blood pressure is also an ongoing issue for me.
Right before the draw, I was feeling pretty rough—honestly, I've been feeling off lately in the mornings too. A bit of dizziness, weak legs, almost like I was about to pass out.

Here are the results:

Hematology:
RBC 3.89 (3.89 - 5.08)
Hgb 117 (119 - 157)
Hct 0.346 (0.356 - 0.470)
MCV 89 (83.0 - 97.2)
MCH 30.2 (27.4 - 33.9)
MCHC 339 (320 - 345)
RDW 12.7 (14.6 - 16.5)
Platelets 220 (158 - 424)
MPV 7.5 (6.8 - 10.4)
WBC 7.9 (3.4 - 9.7)
ESR 8 (4 - 24)

Metabolites and Substrates:
Total Bilirubin 8 (3 - 20)
Glucose 4.3 (4.2 - 6.0)
Creatinine 71 (63 - 107)
Urea 3.1 (2.8 - 8.3)

Enzymes:
ALT 5 (10-36)
AST 10 (8 - 30)
GGT 8 (9 - 35)

Electrolytes:
Potassium 3.9 (3.9 - 5.1)
Sodium 138 (137 - 146)

I have the urinalysis too, but everything there looks normal.🙂

Thanks in advance.🙂
Alright, will do. I’ve got another trip coming up in about two weeks anyway, so if this doesn't work out, I'll just catch them then 🙂

coppermoose42 said:Does anyone know where I can get tumor markers done here in NYC? And what’s the deal if you go through insurance instead of paying out of pocket? Like, do you need a specific referral from a doctor to get those markers tested?

Also, does anyone know the best spot for an abdominal ultrasound? How much can they actually see regarding gut issues through an ultrasound? I read somewhere that you usually start with the less invasive stuff first, and then move on to a colonoscopy if things look sketchy...

It’s for an older person (early 40s), and they're pretty convinced it's something serious. We need to find a doctor ASAP, but since they just moved to the city, we're basically starting from zero and have no clue where to begin...
Any help or advice would be huge..

I found this clinic in NYC (all the details are listed on the side under tumor markers): Stela Clinic
and prices seem to range from $120 to $50 per marker. From what I gathered, there's a suspicion of colon cancer, so they'd probably need both CEA and CA 19-9 markers, which would run about $80 🙂
I'll give that a shot, thanks for the tips 🙏 🙏
It’s been about a month now. I haven't really dealt with allergies before, but last spring I noticed some weird signs. My nose was acting up for like two months straight—no coughing, no sore throat or anything, just that constant stuffy feeling you get when you have a cold, plus way more sneezing than usual. My doctor didn't think it was worth a referral since nothing felt "serious"—I wasn't struggling to breathe, my skin wasn't red or itchy, nothing like that. I'm wondering, though... could this all be connected?
The marks are tiny and circular, almost like when you pop a pimple. I guess that might explain some spots on my back—I get breakouts there from time to time—but this stuff on my ankle just doesn't make sense.
They don't even hurt if I touch them, but the scabs are raised, and honestly, it’s getting annoying because as soon as one falls off in the shower, another one pops up right in the same spot. I remember having a scratch on my shoulder for three weeks once that drove me crazy because my bra kept catching on it, so I know how much that can bug you. These aren't bothering me right now, but I'm mostly just worried about summer hitting and ending up with a back covered in scabs. 🙄
not 😁
I feel like I’d have to scratch myself raw just to wake up. Seriously, when I had my stitches taken out after getting that tattoo removed, the itching was so intense I could practically feel myself scratching in my sleep and waking up from it. 🤷
Then again, even if I am scratching away in my dreams, why hasn't this feeling gone away after all this time? 😕

Paul Newman5 said:I guess there's just no stopping them. I'll look for someone else eventually, but for now, I'm sticking with alternatives. Also, does anyone here know if taking Advil helps reduce the need for General Mills? Or has anyone tried that herbal Advil? (I know this is a psych med thread, but maybe someone has experience with that stuff). One more thing—for those of you dealing with anxiety while on antidepressants, how do you handle work? I'm working, so I'm terrified of starting new meds. The first time around was a nightmare, and my biggest fear is someone at the office finding out and firing me. Please, share your stories, I just need to feel a little better.

Hey, look right here; it says you definitely need to let your doctor know if you're mixing Advil and General Mills..
Lately, I’ve noticed these little scabs popping up all over my body. I mean, sure, I might scratch an itch here or there—like if I notice a pimple or something—but I have never, ever scratched myself hard enough to draw blood. This whole thing feels super weird. For most of them, I don't even know when they actually showed up; I usually just catch them when they start itching or I spot a scab while I'm showering.

They’re on my back, my ankle (😕), and my ribs. They don't really hurt, but they won't go away either. It’s been going on for a while now because every time a scab falls off, instead of healing, a brand new one just takes its place. I really don't want to run to the doctor for every tiny thing, especially since I'm already seeing him about twice a month for other stuff (we've basically become too familiar at this point 😬).

I'm wondering what could be causing this. I highly doubt I'm doing it to myself in my sleep, mostly because that just seems way too out there 🤷

What really bugs me is why they aren't healing. It used to be that if I cut my finger or scraped myself on something, it would heal up pretty fast. These are just tiny little millimeter-sized spots, but they just refuse to clear up 🙄

Daniel Gomez10 said:The thing is, my doctor doesn't really offer many options. She just gives me a wise look for five seconds, goes "hmm," and hands me a prescription.
She’s got a packed waiting room, so there isn't much time for a deep dive.
I’m going to look up some pamphlets for different brands and see what I find.

I get that it's all unique to the person, but I'm still curious to hear about everyone's experiences. 😁
Thanks!

I totally get it. I just wanted to warn you not to be bummed if you see some pills getting great reviews online but they end up being a nightmare for you.🙂
I have the exact same kind of OBGYN.🙄

So, here’s my experience:
Yasmin was easily the worst for me. It gave me chest pains that actually got worse with every new pack, so I had to quit. Then Yaza made me feel nauseous for basically an entire month. Lindynette was probably the easiest on my body—no weight gain, zero acne—but it absolutely wrecked my mood and killed my libido. A ton of girls on these forums complain about the same thing, especially regarding sex drive.
I tried Triquilar too, but I was only on it for a little bit before stopping because the side effects wouldn't budge. Can't remember the specifics though, it was ages ago. 🙂

Honestly, I think birth control is way too personal for anyone on here to give you a "guaranteed" recommendation. You might get lucky, sure, but it’s basically a roll of the dice.
Besides, getting advice from random people online is pretty much the same as listening to your doctor—nobody actually knows how your specific body is going to react to certain pills. Even the ones everyone raves about have stories of girls who had a terrible time with them, or vice versa.

For me, Lindynette 20 was okay—or, let's be real, less awful than the others. But then again, I didn't really struggle with acne on any of them, whereas every single brand I've tried so far absolutely nuked my libido.

Just go see a doctor, honestly. Better to have someone there to calm you down than to sit at home stressing out and killing yourself with all that Google searching 🙂
